Tell me about your pyjamas

I have pyjama rage. As a child, maybe age 6-17, I slept in knickers alone (I don't know why I needed the knickers. Habit?) This is because I was too hot for pyjamas. Year round.
Now, in my lurvely(!) grown-up-me's house, and it's not 1996 any more, I'm freezing cold and have to wear pjs.

But they drive me bonkers. I need your advice for something / a brand / a link that you can recommend.

Nighties always seem to wind up wound around my middle, and are usually short sleeved so give cold arms.
I have tried fleecy pjs. Too sweaty. Silky satin ones, too staticy and sweaty. Cotton ones, the top twists around as I roll over and the buttons come undone. I'm being woken by ds in the morning with my boobs out. (He's very small and doesn't bat an eyelid)

I heard about toast being the ultimate but they look silky, and also about 99% over budget.

Am I missing the magic pyjama shop down diagon alley?

Please recommend!

I'm fussy about the fabrics I wear, and particularly sleep in, and I only do natural fibres - 100% cotton or linen or silk.

I have some silk pyjamas, from a Lilysilk sale, which I love. I wouldn’t touch manmade silky fabrics like polyester satin. Otherwise, I have 100% cotton, brushed cotton for winter or plain cotton in summer. Although mostly I sleep naked and have different tog duvets for different seasons - pyjamas are mostly for when I'm travelling away from home or really cold winter nights.

Cyberjammies 🙌

tuvamoodyson · 13/04/2023 17:37

Cyberjammies for me….

banivani · 13/04/2023 18:03

Linen - nothing beats linen.

SunnieShine · 13/04/2023 18:08

Asda waffle pyjamas are so comfortable.

GlassBunion · 13/04/2023 18:17

It's funny but I cannot stand close fitting clothes anymore. So no pyjamas at all.

I wear an old fashioned nighty as it keeps me cooler.

Wow thank you all so much! I'm afraid I fell asleep just after ten but I've just read all your messages and I'm really touched - and shocked that so many of us struggle with pjs. Loads of really good ideas to try, thank you all so much.

Something i notice is so many women's night and day wear is polyester and similar, which you all seem to agree is uncomfortable. For day wear, polyester clothes are cold, staticky and bad for the environment. Yet men's and children's clothes are almost universally cotton.

WHY?

I have wondered this too and concluded that men are less interested in fast fashion, which is more likely to be made from cheap synthetic fabric, and mothers are more likely to be "must have organic cotton for my PFB!"

This 'lounge dress' from m&s is my favourite night wear for most of the year (except the three weeks of summer !). It's cotton, thicker than normal t-shirt / nightie fabric so nice and warm but still breathable, long sleeved, long enough that even if it rides up it's still round my legs, and it has a hood for when it's really cold !!! I bought two and dyed one purple Grin

I don't think they've got anything like it in at the moment sadly, but I'm keeping an eye out because I want another one.

All I wear in bed is a duvet thick or thin enough for the season. Why dress up for going to bed?

tatteddear · 13/04/2023 22:21

Primark for pjs here. The ones that are a set with cotton bottoms (short or long) and a t shirt style top. Great value and they last ages and are dead comfy.

red78hot · 13/04/2023 22:23

I can't sleep in pyjamas either, I get too warm, we've opted for Teddy fleece bedding in winter, soooo cozy!

brunettemic · 13/04/2023 22:26

I have a couple of DH’s t shirts and then almost like boxer briefs but for women, so comfy 🤗

Because some of us are chilly mortals and / or live in freezing cold houses ! A duvet thick enough for me, in the winter, in my bedroom, without clothes on, doesn't exist 🥶 I'm currently wearing the thick jersey ankle length nightie I linked upthread and a hoodie, under a 13.5 tog duvet and a blanket, and I'm not hot.

SpudsandGravy · 13/04/2023 23:16

I have a selection of very comfy (baggy) cotton PJ bottoms, that I wear with baggy T shirts. Prolly looks naff but I'm comfy in bed :)

MercianQueen · 13/04/2023 23:31

Always used to hate pyjamas for all the reasons you state. Until lockdown had me craving comfort, and my husband located the perfect pair. They are:
Cotton
Slim leg fitting
Cuffed at the bottom so not flappy (don't get tied up with duvet)
But cuffs are not elasticated so don't dig in
Have pockets

Utterly perfect and my favourite item of clothing. Sadly also starting to get a bit holey after 3 years 😭

I'm sorry to hear that. We don't have much heating on either. But I come out of the shower and dive straight into the bed that DH has already warmed up. I don't want to stop to put clothes on.
Do you have an under blanket? That makes a big difference because it stops losing heat down through the mattress.

WishingMyLifeAway · 14/04/2023 10:56

I can only wear the t-shirt material pyjamas that are stretchy cotton without any buttons etc that could dig in or come undone.

Like you I've found that anything else is uncomfortable and gets twisted up or digs in.

I tend to wear stretchy pyjama bottoms with a vest top. If it's v cold I have some stretchy material long sleeve pyjama tops to go over the top.

QuinionsRainbow · 17/04/2023 09:52

I'm in the birthday suit brigade - my nightwear doesn't cost anything, is always available, readily laundered and doesn't get forgotten when I go on holiday. Most importantly, it is eminently comfortable, and DH likes it too! It's getting a bit wrinkled nowadays, but i expect it to see me out for the rest of my days.
