Does this help prevent hunger?
im completely carb addicted and it’s making me feel awful

OP posts:
Jonei · 13/04/2023 08:49

I guess it's not really possible to do fast keto as a vegetarian?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2023 08:49

Look at Freshwell. They have a veggie option.

Jonei · 13/04/2023 08:51

Thank you. I will.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 13/04/2023 08:55

I did fast 800 so similar and it does work really well, lost weight felt mood balanced due to no sugar. However I found it only worked for me by having more meat. Non meet protein with exc of eggs made me v hungry. Sadly I'm no longer following fast 800 due to budgets. Reality is that a plate of pasta is cheaper. Makes me a bit sad as it was working 🙁

Also, @ImSweetEnoughDarlin , perhaps don't tell me I do not know what i am talking about when you do not kknow anything about me

I know your talking shit.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 13/04/2023 09:17

It does work but wasn't sustainable for me long term. I lost 2.5 stone doing proper Keto initially and then low carb. I need my veg, there are a couple of good FB groups, just be aware that it's full of Keto police though who don't like it if you are doing low carb and calling it Keto 🤣
I felt clean and so energised, I loved the fact my tummy started to shrink quickly. I didn't keep the weight off due to ill health and went back to being lazy and carb fuelled.
I keep reading threads about low carb and IF (also really good) and want to start again.
It's lazy food shopping and lazy cooking, because I'm ill we go for quick easy unhealthy indulgent meals like macaroni cheese with bacon and extra parmesan on top, maybe some garlic bread too. Urgh, it's so bad.
Good luck, go for it xx

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2023 09:19

@Alittlenonsensenowandthen didn’t cheese fill you up?

Backinntheroom · 13/04/2023 09:22

I know your talking shit.

Perhaps do some reading around the topic

And BTW, it's 'you're talking shit' not 'your talking shit'

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2023 09:23

If it’s that dangerous though, why are the NHS looking at it?

Nordicrain · 13/04/2023 09:25

Oh god, a banana is the same as a mars bar and eating a satsuma is the end of the world 🙄

OP, sometimes an extreme diet seems like the only fix. But why don't you try start more gently. Do some calorie tracking along with focusing on "good" carbs - whole grains, brown rice, fruit/veg based carbs. Generally and nutrionally the best diet for your body is a balanced one, which does include carbs.

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 13/04/2023 09:25

I've done a lot of reading on the topic, I'm diabetic.

Sorry for the phone typo, but glad you got a superior dickhead dig in 👏

It's not, but people like to spread their ill-informed nonsense around as much as possible.

Why, thank you for your potty-mouth comment
.
Clearly you know best and go with the information that suits your narrative.

My husband and I did keto for a few months and the weight fell off, it was amazing. But I did find it hard work and will never be the kind of person who will be content to not eat pasta, rice or bread again, and I'm not the kind of person who enjoys having lots of veggies on my plate in place of those. I didn't enjoy eating out so much. I have also since put all the weight on again.

BUT I am an apple shape and carry all of my fat around my abdomen, and keto reduced the fat in that area SO well! I am going to start trying out a low carb diet instead of keto. I won't lose the weight so quickly as I won't be in ketosis, but hopefully I will find it easier to stick to for longer, and lower carbs will still be better at reducing the visceral fat around my abdomen. Low cal doesn't work on that far for me.

@Alittlenonsensenowandthen didn’t cheese fill you up?

No I have an amazing capacity to eat all the cheese in the world and not feel full 🤣

I'm not vegan but I do eat a few vegan meals in the week to reduce cost but I rely on carbs to fill up. Cheese is also expensive.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2023 09:34

Yeah cheese is yummy. I can guzzle it too!

LavenderfortheBees · 13/04/2023 09:47

I'm not an advocate of proper keto as I think it's really difficult to do it properly and misses out lots of excellent, nutritious and healthy foods.

Low carb is great though and I think zero refined carbs is easy to do and great for your health.

With proper keto, there is so much you can't eat. Basically any root veg, pulses, legumes, most fruit etc.

I almost completely avoid refined carbs so nothing with added sugar. No white bread, rice, pasta etc. I will often eat carby veg like beans, whole jumbo oats, lentils etc. And I will sparingly eat potatoes (cooked from fresh, not waffles etc), brown rice/bread and wholemeal pasta.

Peridot1 · 13/04/2023 09:48

I think there is a big difference between Keto and low carb. I think Keto is much more restrictive.

Also for clarity as I think there is some confusion- you can do Fast 800 OR Fast 800 Keto of just Keto. The Fast 800 diets are Michael Mosely books.

You can follow a healthy way of eating by eating some carbs but make them healthy carbs. At the end of the day for a lot of us the main carbs we eat are the unhealthy ones we know cause weight gain. I try to limit carbs during the day but I might have carbs with my evening meal depending on what we are having. But it’s not the main part of my meal.

eating more protein is good when trying to lose weight as most of us don’t eat enough of it and it keeps you full longer.

As someone else said Freshwell is good. There is a free app.

the Glucose Goddess is also good on Instagram - her book is The Glucose Revolution
Dr David Unwin on Twitter is also good. He has some great printable charts about the sugar equivalent of various foods we eat . By that I mean the effect on blood sugar from eating a banana. Or a cup of rice. Or whatever.

NotLovingWFH · 13/04/2023 09:51

I’ve tried calorie counting because it works for lots of people that I know but there is something in sugary carby foods that my body just treats like it’s heroin and I can’t stop eating. Keto seems very restrictive so I low carb. I eat berries, most veg other than potatoes and parsnips, nuts, a lot of cheese and way too much cream. Food just becomes less important, I don’t get hungry and it’s easier to eat less. I have to manage it though or I can get so I just can’t be bothered to eat at all and that’s not good either. I feel better and less tired generally though so it definitely suits me. Post meno now too and it definitely helped during peri.

I have yet to hit my limit on cheese too..

Fifiellz · 13/04/2023 11:49

I want to try Keto as well. All my weight is on my belly, back and face and it's supposed to work well on those areas.

I've been trying calorie counting since Jan and I start the day off well and then when I hit the mid afternoon I end up thinking screw it and eating crap. I seem to lose my motivation.

I've done low carb before and it completely killed my appetite and I really need that.

Me too.

The more sugar and carbs l eat the more l want. They send me crazy. It’s honestly like heroin. I just binge and binge all the time.

Tailfeather · 12/04/2023 23:33

@KeepYaHeadUp It's not a calorie deficit diet. I ate more calories than I ever have and lost weight. Lots of oil, cheese, avocado, cream, mayo etc.

These posts are motivating me to get back on keto.

Unless you have other health issues which keto is addressing, what is leading to your weight loss is a calorie deficit. I promise you. For the vast majority of people losing weight on a keto diet (or any other diet) it's calorie deficit.

Try adding everything you eat into a calorie tracking app if you want to see proof. Do it for a few weeks and over time it will be evident.

It really isn't. Its down to ketosis. Ketosis is a chemical process where your body burns fat instead of consumed glucose/glycogen. Once you eat enough glycogen that your body doesn't need to burn fat anymore, you are chucked out of ketosis. People feel a bit bad at first (carb flu) if they eat lots of carbs and sugars as they need to detox and switch over from glycogen for fuel to body fat.

PP struggling with appetite, google ghrelin and leptin. When you eat carbs and sugars these receptors can be switched off and you are endlessly hungry. I can eat and eat and eat and never get full, or if i do, its not for long, when eating carbs.

When you cut them out, you allow the receptors to reactivate so you feel full properly. Also, when eating better quality food, you don't need as much to feel full. People get concerned that they don't go to the toilet enugh, but if everything you are consuming is good for you, will absorb more nutrients and therefore produce less waste.

This is assumiing you don't eat all the keto junk and bars etc and stick to whole foods.

I recently went carnivore and feel full and slightly hungry at meal times. I'm also doing IF, 16:8, which helps too.
