To ask how long your deep clean takes ?

I have a small 2 bedroom flat and I deep clean probably about once a month, if that. It takes me about 4 hours. How big is your house and how long does a deep clean take ??

Deep clean to me is wipe skirting boards, new bedsheets, clean out fridge, mop floors, wipe down all surfaces, hoover etc. Certainly not any dusting or anything like that.

That's a clean!
Deep clean takes 2-3 days here

Alsonification · 07/04/2023 07:01

Oh and laundry is done during the week too so about every 2 or 3 days I'll do a few washes in one day and will fold & put away the dry clothes from the airer/washing line from previous wages. Well i put away my own clothes. The kids do theirs.

Pinkypie86 · 07/04/2023 07:02

I do jobs everyday.

There's never a day where I don't hoover, or go over the kitchen or wipe over skirting boards etc.
I WFH mostly, but I get up and get to it.
I try not to do as much over weekends, but even still I hoover and mop the floors. Kids and a white dog have made me loopy!!
Bathrooms get a good going over 3 times a week. I only iron once a week though. I tend to pull furniture out and really get amongst stuff every month or so.

I'm not sure I've ever cleaned a skirting board in my life. Just why?

Agreed

I find the dust builds up into a handy clump and falls off anyway.

Made me laugh ! 😂

CeriB82 · 07/04/2023 07:03

Yesterday i spent the day in the kitchen. Started at 8am, finishing around 3. Degreased the top of the cupboards and fridge. Washed the doors, soaked the oven racks, cleaned the extraction fan/cooker hood. And inside all the cupboards.

this morning ill do DS’s room and go to the dump. Crack on with another room after lunch.

i work full time, and for me these are a must. I like a clean home

I'm sorry but no 1 year olds and 3 year olds 'play while I do jobs'

That's not a thing. And that's ok. But never in the history of humankind has this happened for MULTIPLE HOURS STRAIGHT

Agree with you. None of mine have just played with toys to allow me to get housework done. I just had to muddle through with the bare minimum of chores when they were small.

We just do it when it needs it. Surfaces and hoover daily, sheets once a week, etc. So I guess the answer is never.

CantBeArsedOrAsked · 07/04/2023 07:19

Strange how the phrase deep cleaning has caught on.

No one ever used to use it about housework, just hospitals when there was an outbreak of infection. And dentists when deep cleaning around the gum line.

Houses were "spring cleaned" once a year.

megletthesecond · 07/04/2023 07:19

I have never done this. I have often thought it would be great to have a few weeks off work and tidy my house. All I can do is the daily essentials and chuck the Dyson round a couple of times a month.

Oblomov23 · 07/04/2023 07:27

That's not what I consider a deep clean.

ShimmeringShirts · 07/04/2023 07:30

4 bed place - deep clean including the woodwork etc takes 2hrs. I don’t let it get filthy enough to take longer than that.

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 07/04/2023 07:33

Life is too short for deep cleaning.

BertieBotts · 07/04/2023 07:34

Don't worry OP

I bet your house is much cleaner than most of us total slatterns Grin

Apart from the skirting boards I'd describe this as a normal clean 😉

devildeepbluesea · 07/04/2023 07:41

I never clean, and as for a deep clean - never done one, never intend to.

My amazing cleaner comes weekly for general stuff. I may sort out the odd cupboard from time to time. If I move I pay a company to deep clean.

Two years post retirement, still in the planning stages for such a major undertaking 😏

Years I suspect. Many years

🤣

Sohungrynow · 07/04/2023 08:01

Gosh, days I suppose but tbh honest I’ve never done the whole house in one go. I just blitz one room at a time either when I think ooops it’s a bit ick, or we’ve people coming to visit/stay (ie doing spare bedrooms). Bathrooms and kitchen are done a lot more. Deep cleans ie cupboard etc only when I think gosh they need it.

I tend to do one job across the whole house, so I’ll hoover ALL the skirting boards, or I’ll dust all the backs of the doors (wooden with bars across so right dust trap). Have discovered that when talking on my walk about phone I can dust lots of the house, recently twigged this from another post about what people did when WFH and on the phone. Bit of a game changer as love a long chat on the phone but now I don’t feel guilty I’ve been sat on my butt for ages.

Deep clean to me is wipe skirting boards, new bedsheets, clean out fridge, mop floors, wipe down all surfaces, hoover etc. Certainly not any dusting or anything like that.

The above is regular housework to me and gets done daily, every few days, sheets weekly, deep cleaning would be washing, walls and ceiling down, going through cupboards decluttering stuff, and getting under beds and in those hard-to-reach places. I try and do deep clean stuff once a month.

WonderingWanda · 07/04/2023 08:05

I don't really do a deep clean unless we're moving out or moving in to a property. I just do bits of a deep clean as we go. Last week I thought my bedroom curtains looked a bit manky so washed them. The cutlery draw needed a wipe out and my daughters windows got cleaned on top of my usual cleaning chores (hoover, mop, polish, clean bathrooms and kitchen surfaces). The sofa usually gets pulled out for a clean under when the cat liberates a mouse under it. This week, I gave the dishwasher filters a clean because everything has been coming out grubby, then I wiped all the manky door edge of it. Then I did the kitchen cupboard fronts because I was close to them and they were looking grim.

So, no big deep clean but a sort of weekly tackling of the most disgusting aspect of my filthy house. I think if I did the whole thing it would actually take a about 2 days.

VineSt · 07/04/2023 08:07

I don't think that's a deep clean either, my cleaner takes care of all of that in three hours every other week.

I clean the inside windows every few months and the kitchen cupboards when I feel like it, maybe once a year if that.

I don't really clean the fridge either tbh, if something spills or there's something to clean I do it when it happens.

edenhills · 07/04/2023 08:07

Once a year before mil visits. Takes about 3 days. Deep clean to me is normal clean plus all the things I don't normally clean such as the inside of kitchen cupboards, radiators, light switches, internal doors etc. I don't clean much anyway the rest of the year but suddenly notice that we live in filth just before she is due!

bellac11 · 07/04/2023 08:11

Who washes walls and ceilings for gods sake??!!!

For what purpose??

In my life it is only the decorator 😂.
