to point out that one Y chromosome does not make you a male

Nimbostratus100 · 06/04/2023 09:53

In response to other posts insisting that one genetic test and one Y chromosome makes an athlete indisputably male with no room for error, I just want to point out that it not true.

There is always genetic exchange, for example, between a mother and baby, so anyone who has had a son will still have Y chromosomes in some cells in their body, and that will possibly show up in a genetic screening.

I am all for keeping men out of women's sport, and defining them genetically, but please lets not go over the top - one test does not prove you are male

haha! I'm back, but not much point in answering any of this, as it is just the same things I've already answered being repeated over and over...

I dont think anyone scanning through this thread would have any difficulty identifying the ignorance and aggression that I was referring to though.

Still, I expect there are at least some readers who understand better now.

I understood right from the beginning that you don't know what you're talking about. Your further posts have only confirmed that.

Again, a DSD is only one reason why somebody might not start periods at the normal time. There are other reasons including low body weight, hormone imbalance. It should be investigated, for health reasons primarily - certainly if somebody is involved in high level competition.

.....very rare but it can happen in complete androgen sensitivity. Biological male fetus with total inability to respond to testosterone. At birth, external genitalia look female. Some testosterone is normally metabolized to oestrogen ... this can be enough to drive breast development female body shape. These people will have no idea they are not biologically female until periods don't appear at puberty. This condition is very, very rare. Most cases of androgen insensitivity has some residual capacity to respond to testosterone.

And yes.....I spent years doing research into steroid hormones. Now retired and out of date.

So even in those very. Very rare instances by puberty you would know.

Merrymouse · 07/04/2023 10:03

Very rare instances by puberty you would know.

if you lived in a country where you have access to testing and scans.

SmartHome · 07/04/2023 10:03

Yes. Anyone believing themselves to be female who hadn't started periods (for any reason) by 17/18 would be having extensive medical investigations, in the West, and anyone from a poorer country with less access to healthcare would get it when they presented to a sporting governing body now to register to take part in a sport now as there is more awareness of what people were doing in Africa and India - scouting for men with DSDs to put in female sports.

Females with DSDs wouldn't be showing up for elite male sports.

Going right back to the opening post, the OP says this:

In response to other posts insisting that one genetic test and one Y chromosome makes an athlete indisputably male with no room for error, I just want to point out that it not true.

What posts?
Who has said this?
Has there ever been a case of someone being declared male on account of one single Y chromosome?

sashh · 07/04/2023 10:04

If you have a bone marrow transplant your blood DNA becomes that of your donor, but that does not make you a clone of your donor.

Clymene · 07/04/2023 10:14

To my knowledge, the OP has identified as a geneticist, a secondary school maths teacher, and autism expert.

A veritable Mr Benn

noblegiraffe · 07/04/2023 10:22

And a science teacher and virologist.

Thelnebriati · 07/04/2023 10:26

IDK, if I was courting negative comments online I might start to wonder if I had a humiliation fetish or something.

Ummm, if you've carried and birthed a baby boy...I would say that has cleared up any question of "are you male or female?" anyway...surely? I am not a geneticist though.

Superb post

Op is currently identifying as asexual and promoting the wearing of special rings for this community on a new thread.

Op is renaissance person.

Same thing in the OP on that thread about how much hostility they’re expecting, but they’re posting anyway.

youshouldnthaveasked · 07/04/2023 10:36

What about the balls and penis they were born with? You are being utterly ridiculous

Except she says she's a maths teacher

A geneticist maths teacher, methinks 🕵️‍♀️.... certainly a special person.

SmartHome · 07/04/2023 11:24

I think OP is some sort of ChatGPT Turing test testing.

Not 100% sure what you mean, but while the OP is clearly confused, people with various specific congenital conditions (CAIS, Swyers) develop as externally female, despite having a Y chromosome.

This is very rare and has nothing to do with what the OP is talking about.

I thought they just regurgitate pre existing info?
I reckon a Chatbot would be a lot more accurate than OP!

True. Probably a university Easter project.

Although some othe random person claims to know them in RL. Seems they've recovered enough now form the general anaesthetic to post a new thread about being asexual (strange thing to prioritise when recovering from surgery?), but not enough to come back to this other thread they started and explain what happens to their friend.

I’ve encountered the poster before - was adamant about a small fact that was easily proven wrong via government docs posted online and refused to budge when shown the evidence (repeatedly).

I didn't claim to know her in RL personally.
