... to put cat shit through next door's letterbox?

It's in poo bags!

I've just cut some of the grass for the first time, and have picked up 3 lots of cat shit from an area of lawn about 30' x 15'. I know it's from next door's cat, one lot was in the spot where I saw the beast squatting for a leisurely dump this morning, and the other 2 lots are identical in size, shape and consistency, plus their cat is the only one that dares to linger in my garden.

And we never speak, so it's not as though I'd be damaging our relationship, because we don't have one. Mr NDN has never spoken a civil work to me in the 30 years I've lived here.

Genuinely - YANBU. DO IT.

Pretty sure putting shit through someones letterbox is a criminal offence.

They cant stop their cat shitting there. Its a cat.

DiscoBeat · 04/04/2023 21:37

I do think the law should be that cats are contained within their own property, and I do like cats so it's not an aversion thing. But unfortunately that's not the law. What you're talking about is very much against the law, and quite vile.

Thelnebriati · 04/04/2023 21:48

The man next door is an utter shit, including to his wife.

If you really think the man next door is abusive, don't trigger him. He will take it out on her.
In any case, I expect it will be her job to clean it up. If its actually her cat he may insist she gets rid of it, and it might be the only company she's got.

mybeautifuloak · 04/04/2023 21:56

Yes, but they were probably nice neighbours. The man next door is an utter shit, including to his wife

Nice. So now the poor woman has to deal with her nasty husband and the crazy neighbour who shoved shit through her door

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 04/04/2023 22:01

You'd be better off talking to the woman next door about the cat when the husband is out.

Sux2buthen · 04/04/2023 22:02

@ArDi the cat sounds like a twat to me too

Mmm hmm…

”aimed a kick at him, hoping his swinging leg would scare the brute away. Unfortunately (for both parties, as DH has never quite recovered from the guilt) the cat was so engaged in its ablutions that it failed to register the danger, and DH's foot connected firmly with kitty's behind, hoofing him across the lawn and over the shrubbery, never to return.”

mmm hmmm
“I should make it clear that DH did pull back when he realised the cat wasn't moving, and sort of ended up shoving him heavily with his foot, rather than outright kicking him - he was unharmed”

😎

Lots of irresponsible cat owners on this thread. YANBU OP our garden has become a cat latrine. It’s disgusting, and none of the owners will take responsibility for it.

I'm still missing how they're supposed to do this?

KarmaStar · 04/04/2023 22:42

Just remember what you put out there comes back to you.

Easy - keep your cat under your control. Confined to your house or cat escape proof your garden so that it can't stray. Keep it on a lead when outside if need be.
If you can't achieve that then don't have a cat.

We had a repeat-offender cat, who would leave his dollops in the middle of our lovely, circular, front lawn each morning. Right in the middle, like he knew how much I loved that lawn, and how awful he could make it look. I would pick up, bin it (not thru neighbours' letterbox) spray the area with detergent to break down the smell, but the little scrote would be back next day.
After trying all sorts of expensive deterrents, none of which worked, I decided to try the water pistol method, and I stood guard at the open window one Saturday morning, SuperSoaker in hand, waiting for him to arrive for his morning toilette. At around 9.10am I needed the loo myself and whilst I was doing my business (in the correct place) the cat showed up and did his on my lawn. Crafty bugger.
After that, I left a bowl of water on the front step, so that I could grab it and drench him if I ever caught him at it, and that weirdly seemed to do the trick for a while - just the proximity of water seemed to put him off, but I needed the bowl for something else, so had to bring it in.
It was then that my DH caught him in the act one morning, and aimed a kick at him, hoping his swinging leg would scare the brute away. Unfortunately (for both parties, as DH has never quite recovered from the guilt) the cat was so engaged in its ablutions that it failed to register the danger, and DH's foot connected firmly with kitty's behind, hoofing him across the lawn and over the shrubbery, never to return.
I should make it clear that DH did pull back when he realised the cat wasn't moving, and sort of ended up shoving him heavily with his foot, rather than outright kicking him - he was unharmed, as we used to see him around the place, but the cat never again dared to despoil our lovely lawn.

Crying here... can just picture it....

@MrsMischiefOnTour Make. The. Cat. Miserable?
It's barbaric to confine a dog to a house and garden, but not a cat?

Nolosomi · 04/04/2023 23:22

Animals shit outdoors OP. The cat doesn’t know the difference between your garden or a field. A fox or a bird could be shitting all over your garden too. YABU and ridiculous.

So you won’t mind if I let my dog shit in YOUR garden?

Goes both ways... Dog owners are fined if their dog fouls on someone's property and they're caught - why is cat mess okay?

I own neither, but that does sound awful, OP. In an old property there was a nearby cat who pooped on our lawn. Horrible big thing it was, the only thing you can do (I've found) is give it a bloody good fright, but it doesn't always work. My grandma, bless her, laid in wait with a bucket of water to catch a repeat offender and it never returned after being soaked, however I don't think I'd have had the patience to sit and wait for a visit!

RobertaFirmino · 05/04/2023 00:13

A person's choice to own a cat means that another person has no choice but to pick up its shite. Which is unfair.

caringcarer · 05/04/2023 00:23

If the neighbour could prove you did it, Ring doorbell or security camera, they could report you to the police for harassment. You sound unhinged.

trebarwith1 · 05/04/2023 00:43

What the fuck is wrong with you!?

IreneGoodnight · 05/04/2023 01:26

DH & I had this revolting problem at our previous house. We love cats but by god we used to swear and hiss if we saw one with it's arse hovering over our lawn! Our own cat of that time never went outside due to a medical problem.
In our current house we've got two different cats who do go outside (only during daylight hours) but poop indoors in a large litter tray which we scoop out several times a day.
Imo all cat owners should maintain litter trays so there's less chance of their pets being a darn nuisance to the neighbours.

hastalavista · 05/04/2023 06:26

We got a cat sprayer from amazon. It solved the problem very quickly and pretty much permanently. U attach it to a hose and it sprays water on sensing movement. Also fun for kids in summer. After a few weeks the deterrent will have worked and u can leave it there but turn the water off. They cats tried it again after a month or 2 so we put it on again for a little while. After that we have no more poo.
