School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

What "obvious" thing am I not comprehending, pray tell?

And didn't your parents teach you not to use the word gobshite? Tut tut.

They'd be mortified actually. I learnt it from a really rough scouser that I was forced to live with during my internship in New York. You just remind me of her somehow......

RoseThornside · 02/04/2023 20:45

My child's friend was on a school trip to Paris by coach. Trip cancelled, coach turned around and came home today. 30 very upset children. Awful situation for everyone. Brexit is a total own goal.

Kendodd · 02/04/2023 20:46

I'm still asking and have never yet had an answer - what exactly have the benefits of Brexit been? Oh yes, that's right - there are absolutely none whatsoever!

Freedom to dump shit in the sea?

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/04/2023 20:46

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 02/04/2023 20:42

Yeah, but what would he know? And why would anyone let the facts get in the way of their defence of Brexit? We have unicorns now, don't you know?

They didn't let facts or the welfare of the UK get in the way of their vote for Brexit either.

MavisMcMinty · 02/04/2023 20:49

Rhondaa · 02/04/2023 20:42

Wtaf. Why do we have this trend for comparing any 'hardship' today with Jews and Nazi Germany. It is really disgusting and not remotely comparable. It seems to have become fashionable encouraged by the likes of Lineker.

There are horrid hold ups going skiing due to poor staffing by the French. Why on earth bring the Nazis into it?!

Stop blaming understaffing by the French, when it’s caused by having to inspect and stamp passports for Brexit Britishers.

MintJulia · 02/04/2023 20:49

@SnackSizeRaisin Was that really necessary? You don't strengthen your argument at all.

DuncinToffee
Hi Clav, the 'flaws' being the 1951 Refugee Convention?

No idea - but are you telling me that Yvette Cooper doesn't really have a plan on immigration? No wonder she looked so uncomfortable in the interview. A very poor performance from her I thought.

You prefer the Government's currrent approach of detaining and deporting refugees including women and children?

TheSnootiestFox · 02/04/2023 20:52

Celeriacsoup · 02/04/2023 20:45

So in effect TheSnootiestFox your best argument is "calm down dear"?

I wonder who that reminds me of?

And I totally agree with your main point MrsBennetsPoorNerves that the Conservatives in their respectable suits , with their faux good manners (and in some cases, over-confident use of Latin) and their laughable rhetoric about "traditional values" and "taking back control" somehow managed to dupe enough UK voters in to thinking that they were competent, decent operators who deserved the trust of the British people. When in reality, most of them wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face! Boris Johnson in particular showed himself up to have no values whatsoever except those aligned with lining his own pockets! The Tories have lied and lied again in their Queen's English and their plummy accents and they have lost my vote forever.

I'm sure that they will live with the loss.

Rhondaa · 02/04/2023 20:54

'Stop blaming understaffing by the French, when it’s caused by having to inspect and stamp passports for Brexit Britishers.'

Which goes on in every eu country and globally. Yet Dover is always the problem. They need to follow other's examples efficiency wise.

A "rough scouser"? What a delightful description! Grin

Did your parents teach you to be such a condescending snob? I'm sure that they're really proud of how you have turned out.

And why do you think Dover is always the problem?

You can always ask Raab as he didn't know either.

I haven’t RTFT because I would like to preserve my sanity. But it appears to me that the people smugglers run a pretty efficient operation. Criminal gangs they may be, but we are becoming used to such people in positions of power in this country. Surely the solution to this problem is to co-opt their logistics experts and make use of their small boats, which after all only do a one-way trip at present, to transport people from British shores to the Continent of Europe, where they can ski and eat pâté to their hearts’ content.
A latter-day Dunkirk, if you will.

What an excellent idea. i suggest you write to the Braverman and suggest it.

The UK can't sort itself out. Not while the corrupt, shambolic, lying Tories are in government.

Here’s exactly why Janiie:

“It didn't start with gas chambers.
It started with one party controlling the media.
One party controlling the message.
One party deciding what is truth.
One party censoring speech and silencing opposition.
One party dividing citizens into
"us" and "them" and calling on their supporters to harass them.
It started when good people turned a blind eye and let it happen.”

Well, one is now dead and the other now has dementia but when I got my postgrad twenty odd years ago they were proud. Add on the subsequent sensational children, amazing career and CV to die for and yes, I think they would be pretty pleased with how their offspring has turned out. Sorry if that disappoints.

Rhondaa · 02/04/2023 21:02

'And why do you think Dover is always the problem?'

As I've said throughout mismanagement regarding staffing. Quiet ports, few staff, busy ports need more staff. It's simple. If you go to Tesco do you expect to have one checkout open on a Saturday afternoon and queue up like lemons uncomplaining for 24hrs? No you don't.

Do you vote Tory OP?

Crikeyalmighty · 02/04/2023 21:04

Hmmm, I'm beginning to think some who voted for Brexit didn't actually understand the full range of side effects- what with fisherman who thought it just meant others couldn't fish their territory but had totally forgotten that it buggered up their export market , to those hugely against immigration who hadn't quite grasped when it became clear we were short of workers who actually wanted to work , we would be replacing all the single, youngish EU guys and gals now clearing off elsewhere, with families of non EU, non white and non brain surgeon level folks ( don't think this is what many of those voting leave were quite expecting nor what the government implied)

Rhondaa · 02/04/2023 21:04

This is awful. I'm sorry for your ds and all the other dc and families who'll have to give up their trips/holidays due to Brexit. That is the reason - Brexit.

What we have here is a lack of staff causing delays and we need more air travel than these ports

Nigel Farage can hold his head high in Moscow. He definitely delivered for his handlers.

I've watched his GB News show. He's still working for them. Farage is a modern day Lord Hawhaw.
