School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

Your poor son, that's rotten. Such a disappointment but I'm not sure you can blame the Tories though. They don't control the French protestors.

My ds came back from a week's school skiing today, he didn't go to France or travel through Dover though. Brexit and the Tories didn't stop it.

I hope they rearrange for your son, for next year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/04/2023 20:19

I can't be arsed to read the thread. This absolutely lies at the feet of the Tory brexiteers who lied to everyone and now a running a massive gaslighting campaign. I agree with the op: fuck the people who lied to everyone, who made out that the EU was the ultimate evil, simply so they could implement their own vision of what an isolated little britain should look like.

I am really sorry for your ds op.

I haven’t RTFT because I would like to preserve my sanity. But it appears to me that the people smugglers run a pretty efficient operation. Criminal gangs they may be, but we are becoming used to such people in positions of power in this country. Surely the solution to this problem is to co-opt their logistics experts and make use of their small boats, which after all only do a one-way trip at present, to transport people from British shores to the Continent of Europe, where they can ski and eat pâté to their hearts’ content.
A latter-day Dunkirk, if you will.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 02/04/2023 19:42

Ah but their failure to deliver on all those pledges wasn't their fault. Oh no, Covid, the French, the Germans, the war in Ukraine, Labour, the Lib Dems, tree huggers, the looney left!, immigrants, Jesus, and a small snail on the doorstep of no.10 are all to blame for those broken promises.

I mean how can they possibly keep their promises when all those conspired against them???

You forgot about the Far Left International Money Markets that PM Truss told us about.😆😆😆

I'm afraid they didn't teach you as well as you seem to think they did, as you're coming across as a patronising twat with your "calm down" comments and your insinuations that you had a superior upbringing.

FWIW, I'm perfectly calm, thanks. I just disagree with you, and find your assumption that you understand the reasons for the referendum result better than the rest of us mildly irritating. My point is not that people didn't believe that immigration was the cause of all their problems, but rather that they were misguided in thinking this because of deliberate attempts from the right to promote that false narrative. I do not consider that your "insights" have added anything useful to the debate because they are merely stating the obvious.

But that's irrelevant. At the time, they felt Brexit was their only salvation, and I speak as someone who was also working with Foodbanks etc at the time.

I wonder why? When a large proportion of the least educated and most deprived people in our society are manipulated into scapegoating a minority or foreign people that is a huge failing. It's not inevitable and the solution is not a referendum to enable turkeys to vote for Christmas. It's a direct result of the way they are governed and communicated with.

I do wish they'd engaged Logic rather than have their feelings manipulated by a bunch of lying conmen.

Yep. The answer is 'don't give the people a democratic vote as "we" know what's best' 🤔 #1984

Democracy in the UK means elect your MP and they decide on your behalf. It doesn't mean referenda on every issue.

Greenbather · 02/04/2023 20:32

YANBU at all and I hope your son is OK.

OllytheCollie · 02/04/2023 20:34

No words on the political shit show this represents but I am so gutted for your son and all the other children let down. It's a really big deal to be going on your first school trip abroad after the pandemic for the kids, the teachers, the parents. So much work goes into organizing these things. I know there are bigger things going on the world but I can really relate to how gutted the young people involved must feel.

I hope there's insurance cover and the teachers feel up to the challenge of going again next year...

Yes. I reckon the Jews in nazi Germany wished the same. Unfortunately scapegoating outsiders is a common tactic of poor governments. It works surprisingly well

It's not the French protestors who have to check and stamp each passport

GobbieMaggie · 02/04/2023 20:39

The UK was never part of the Schengen area and there were always passport controls and queues at Dover, especially at certain times of the year. It’s nothing new but of course that doesn’t play to the agenda.

What "obvious" thing am I not comprehending, pray tell?

And didn't your parents teach you not to use the word gobshite? Tut tut.

whenwhenwhen · 02/04/2023 20:39

It's not the protestors. It's a consequence of Brexit. Literally the chief executive of the Port of Dover has said it is because of the need for increased passport checks following Brexit.

42isthemeaning · 02/04/2023 20:41

This is awful. I'm sorry for your ds and all the other dc and families who'll have to give up their trips / holidays due to Brexit. That is the reason - Brexit. The biggest lie the Tory ERG and their pals sold to the British public.
I'm still asking and have never yet had an answer - what exactly have the benefits of Brexit been? Oh yes, that's right - there are absolutely none whatsoever!

But if they are operating with a skeleton crew then it will cause delays on there side of things,

Hi Clav, the 'flaws' being the 1951 Refugee Convention?

No idea - but are you telling me that Yvette Cooper doesn't really have a plan on immigration? No wonder she looked so uncomfortable in the interview. A very poor performance from her I thought.

Yeah, but what would he know? And why would anyone let the facts get in the way of their defence of Brexit? We have unicorns now, don't you know?

Wtaf. Why do we have this trend for comparing any 'hardship' today with Jews and Nazi Germany. It is really disgusting and not remotely comparable. It seems to have become fashionable encouraged by the likes of Lineker.

There are horrid hold ups going skiing due to poor staffing by the French. Why on earth bring the Nazis into it?!

No, I am sure that Redwood was thinking of turnip picking not luxury outward bound holidays when he said we could holiday in the UK.

So in effect TheSnootiestFox your best argument is "calm down dear"?

I wonder who that reminds me of?

And I totally agree with your main point MrsBennetsPoorNerves that the Conservatives in their respectable suits , with their faux good manners (and in some cases, over-confident use of Latin) and their laughable rhetoric about "traditional values" and "taking back control" somehow managed to dupe enough UK voters in to thinking that they were competent, decent operators who deserved the trust of the British people. When in reality, most of them wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face! Boris Johnson in particular showed himself up to have no values whatsoever except those aligned with lining his own pockets! The Tories have lied and lied again in their Queen's English and their plummy accents and they have lost my vote forever.
