Lighthearted
Went to visit my parents yesterday and dad asked if I wanted a coffee. I’ve never drunk coffee, I hate coffee, every time I go round and he offers I tell him I don’t like coffee but I’ll have a tea. He’s done it my whole life. AIBU to think it’s not that difficult to remember that your daughter has a cup of tea.
is there something that your parents ask all the time that you have told them repeatedly?
He doesn’t have dementia or anything like that.

I can't remember which of my kids likes white chocolate & which one doesn't.

I can remember their preferences in hot drinks (who drinks tea, coffee, or neither).

I hear you. I frequently get their preferences mixed up. And of course I remember things that they eventually change their minds about. So I confidently say "I didn't put olives in as I know you don't like then" and apparently they decided they liked them two years ago.
When I get these things wrong they act like I can't possibly love them if I don't know/ remember this really important preference they do/don't have.

They're wonderful people and I love them dearly. But they seem to revert to children when I get things like that wrong.

Yes my son, 17 is a bit like this, at one point he put grated cheese on everything and he coukd go through a 500 grm bag of cheese in 3 days on his own. This went on for a year at least. Recently he said "I hate grated cheese"
😯

I have a long term condition since a young child where I have had to have six monthly blood tests they were quite traumatic for me as a child. Mum used to put her hand over my eyes.
Mum was staying with me when I was pregnant, and I needed to go for a blood test after an appointment, it was a room only with curtains, Mum went to the loo as my name was called. Just as the nurse was poised to put the needle in, mum Rushed over put her hand over my eyes and told me not too look ! The nurse just smiled. I was 37.🤓🤣

I'm 57 and when I'm upset my daughter (26) makes me chocolate milk

I've been lactose intolerant for 30 years and gluten intolerant for 8 years and when I visit my Dad he always serves bread, crackers and variety of cheeses for lunch. I can't eat any of it!

My FIL offers me a sherry before dinner and wine with the meal every single time I visit. He has known me for nearly 35 years and I have never drunk alcohol in that time yet it seems to surprise him every time. In fact it seems to surprise him in the gap between me declining the sherry and declining the wine. Not that it really matters, but it is a bit weird.

My kids all live at home (either uni or working but saving to make a mortgage affordable), so in total we have around 25 of their ‘regular’ friends in and out if our house, plus extras here and there. Their friends always seem amazed/surprised/perplexed that I don’t recall what they have to drink and how they take it, tea, coffee, herbal, hot choc etc. No idea why they think I’d be arsed to remember all of their preferences.

Yes! My Father always offers me non gluten free food despite me having coeliac disease. I'm sick of repeating myself.
