Immediate thoughts on this weekend

Went to work until lunchtime (private tutor)
Got baguettes, cheese and fruit from the shop on way home for myself, Dd,4 and Dh. Had lunch, I lay down on sofa watching Gogglebox and on phone, Dh took Dd two doors down to her friends house to play on the trampoline for a couple of hours. They will then go to get takeaway pizza later we’ll watch a film, then bed for Dd
Tomorrow, we’re driving around 30 minutes away to a waterfall, then to a little beach resort (we’re abroad) where they have a nice playground, we’ll have lunch there then take a boat over to a small beach island just across the way from there.
Will come back, walk our dog in the forest/beach and Dd will have a bath and get school things ready for tomorrow. I’ll take Dd to bed and do stories etc.

Immediate thoughts/response to this weekend?

Also the fact I’m lay on the sofa in a hoodie and pj bottoms (already 🙈) typing this and she’s out drinking cocktails (has a child too)
I’m just excited for my pizza and Dh putting Dd to bed at 7, so I have the tv to myself

So is it the afternoon drinking that makes her life better?

arethereanyleftatall · 01/04/2023 16:00

Gotta be honest op, I left worrying about what other people thought of what I wanted to do, behind in my twenties. Do what you like.
I went clubbing a lot at uni, hated it, just did it cos everyone else said it was fun. I expect I wasn't alone. What I love about being 30+ is that I no longer give a shit what others think.

Icanbuymyselfflowersstuckinmyhead · 01/04/2023 16:02

@arethereanyleftatall I thought the same, but her just saying it outright, has thrown me I guess. She’s really nice generally and doesn’t say things like that at all, so I’m wondering if my life really is boring and it’s become so I can’t even see it anymore, if that makes sense

@Aturnipforthebooks I could join her I suppose but I really cba 😬

It sounds lovely and not at all boring - you're getting a nice mix of you time and family time, fresh air, food you enjoy.

Boring perhaps would be if you said you were spending the weekend going to B&Q and deep cleaning the bathroom whilst your DD entertained herself on a tablet

GMOOH2023 · 01/04/2023 16:03

Sounds like a lovely weekend. You don't have to live your life to some bizarre "rules" set by others.

Although TBH if you responded to her with as much detail as you have put in your post then I would be bored just listening.

Couldyounot · 01/04/2023 16:03

Your weekend sounds great. Your friend is weird.

Goldensunnydays81 · 01/04/2023 16:05

I think your weekend sounds great, I hate the fact that people assume because you are not out drinking that you are boring. I would much prefer your weekend

RogerTheTodger · 01/04/2023 16:05

Sounds fine, a bit boring perhaps

WTF?

What do you think a 40 yr old with a small child "ought" to be doing that's so much more interesting?

FWIW, OP, your weekend is perfect for a child of that age (not that you were asking about that).

arethereanyleftatall · 01/04/2023 16:05

These things only ever go one way. Why is it ok for someone to say they find sitting in their pjs with a hot chocolate boring (which they may well do) but it's seemingly not the done thing to admit to finding having cocktails in the afternoon boring. I find the latter very dull, because I can never hear what the other person is saying above the noise. I like to properly listen to people, so for me, a walk is more fun. It's horses for courses.

Fluffygreenslippers · 01/04/2023 16:06

Your friend sounds ridiculous. What are you supposed to be doing- snorting lines off your husbands arse?
I’d love to have a nice normal weekend. I’m deathly ill with a gallbladder infection & can barely keep down half a banana!

Highjinks01 · 01/04/2023 16:07

I’ve walked the dog, been to Aldi and cleaned out the fridge. Your weekend sounds like a white knuckle ride in comparison! Your friend seems to have her own issues.

RogerTheTodger · 01/04/2023 16:07

Just saw your latest post. If she thinks that afternoon drinking with young children in tow is "interesting", then she has got a screw loose.

That sounds like a shit afternoon for her child/ren.

OriginalUsername2 · 01/04/2023 16:08

It seems like “boring” is code for not being out drinking.

You could see it as a bit sad that she still feels the need.

Different strokes for different folks. But she was rude and snarky! Your weekend sounds lovely to me.

Housenoob · 01/04/2023 16:09

I don't understand why some people think anything that doesn't involve going out for drinks is 'boring'. If you do it a few times a week like your friend apparently does, doesn't that make her the boring one? Nothing better to do then get drunk?

🤣🤣🤣

Honestly the older I get, the less I can be arsed to socialise and stuff. Who cares what she thinks? You are content and that’s the main thing. Wait til your kids are older and you are either ferrying them about to clubs/matches on the weekend, or waiting to pick them up from friends houses late at night!

Icanbuymyselfflowersstuckinmyhead · 01/04/2023 16:10

@GMOOH2023 😂I did that for the post here, but didn’t write it all in the text…she knew I’d been working etc

Our day so far has been a trip to the local retail park this morning for Tesco, Wilko and poundshop stuff. Home for lunch then we've all been lounging around doing bits and pieces of crafts, some low level tidying up and reading.

That is it for today. We have busy week days and the weekend is for catching up on some rest. Sometime we go somewhere nice, sometimes we spend the day in PJs.

Commonsensitivity · 01/04/2023 16:10

Sounds like a horrid toxic friend. Your weekend sounds perfect. I've been hoovering and cleaning the loo today. What would your friend make of that?!

Commonsensitivity · 01/04/2023 16:11

Does she have an alcohol problem? Is she projecting her dissatisfaction on to you?

BeastOfBODMAS · 01/04/2023 16:12

I’d pick your weekend over hers OP

I did enough going out drinking at weekends for a lifetime in my teens/20s and would find it kind of boring to revisit now tbh.

Tiredmum100 · 01/04/2023 16:13

Your weekend sounds fab. Surely your friend is old enough to realise bot everyone wants to be out drinking.

Icanbuymyselfflowersstuckinmyhead · 01/04/2023 16:14

@Fluffygreenslippers 😂😂😂

The cocaine on the husbands bum, not the gallstones obviously, sorry about that 💐

Icanbuymyselfflowersstuckinmyhead · 01/04/2023 15:53

@Lyricallie Thats what I mean, is it boring?

Maybe but I’m 30 with no kids so what would appear boring to me is different to you. Like I would say my weekend is boring, I did spin class, dog walk, volunteering and now I’m going to do some DIY then dinner and chill. Tomorrow supporting an Easter Fair and probably do a weight lifting class. My weekend is fairly boring to me but that’s not a bad thing. I wouldn’t want to do it every weekend but as my May is about to be mental with weddings and hen dos I’m taking advantage of quiet weekends whilst I can!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 01/04/2023 16:15

We've done nothing today, all ready for a rest. Reading, watching TV, gaming, I've hoovered and done a load of washing. I have no regrets!
Both kids are at birthday parties tomorrow and so today we're all happy to be having a lazy day.
