Immediate thoughts on this weekend

Went to work until lunchtime (private tutor)
Got baguettes, cheese and fruit from the shop on way home for myself, Dd,4 and Dh. Had lunch, I lay down on sofa watching Gogglebox and on phone, Dh took Dd two doors down to her friends house to play on the trampoline for a couple of hours. They will then go to get takeaway pizza later we’ll watch a film, then bed for Dd
Tomorrow, we’re driving around 30 minutes away to a waterfall, then to a little beach resort (we’re abroad) where they have a nice playground, we’ll have lunch there then take a boat over to a small beach island just across the way from there.
Will come back, walk our dog in the forest/beach and Dd will have a bath and get school things ready for tomorrow. I’ll take Dd to bed and do stories etc.

Immediate thoughts/response to this weekend?

Needing alcohol to be happy or have fun doesn't make one 'un-boring', either, btw. I'd say that someone who can truly enjoy life without drinking is far better off than someone who feels a weekend without it is wasted or boring.

Twinedpeaks · 01/04/2023 16:42

I thought her comment was going to be about division of parenting, not excitement. I've had the electrician over today. That's it. Fine by me!

WimbyAce · 01/04/2023 16:43

Sounds super to me!

ChocSaltyBalls · 01/04/2023 16:45

sounds lovely! Just ignore her.

BlueHeelers · 01/04/2023 16:46

It sounds lovely. Ignore your friend.

honeylulu · 01/04/2023 16:47

Sounds great. If you're not bored then it's not boring! I had a day off yesterday and weather was terrible so I read nearly a whole book, watched some catch up telly, did a home workout and a bit of housework. Well worth it, I felt really refreshed. Weekends with much going on (especially late nights and drinking) are OK now and again bit too exhausting once you have kids in the mix too.

MuffinTo · 01/04/2023 16:52

I would love your weekend! But I am quite a home bod and not into going out really.

Ducksinthebath · 01/04/2023 16:52

I’m clearly very old and boring because I thought the comment was going to be that the weekend was too full!

ChocSaltyBalls · 01/04/2023 16:52

Turnipworkharder · 01/04/2023 16:33

Why do people keep saying they are boring if you/they don't drink alcohol ?

I'd be more concerned that people can't actually enjoy themselves without alcohol.

Exactly

Drinking is more boring than not drinking

BackOfTheMum5net · 01/04/2023 16:53

Sounds like a nice weekend to me and I’m in my thirties!

Frankly my response ‘Gosh, that’s a lot, how exhausting!’ but I’m 25 weeks pregnant so not at peak energy levels!

What does your friend think you should be doing, snorting lines of coke off strippers?!

Highlyflavouredgravy · 01/04/2023 17:05

jaqueandjill · 01/04/2023 16:02

It sounds lovely and not at all boring - you're getting a nice mix of you time and family time, fresh air, food you enjoy.

Boring perhaps would be if you said you were spending the weekend going to B&Q and deep cleaning the bathroom whilst your DD entertained herself on a tablet

I've spent most of today either in b and q or decorating the bedroom and I've really enjoyed it!

Also the fact I’m lay on the sofa in a hoodie and pj bottoms (already 🙈) typing this and she’s out drinking cocktails (has a child too)
I’m just excited for my pizza and Dh putting Dd to bed at 7, so I have the tv to myself

I'm 34, no kids and am in my comfy pants and an oversized jumper, also looking forward to pizza and wondering how early is too early to go to bed.

Ignore the 'friend' , you do you. Has she a dp/dh? You mentioned a child but not a SO.

I wonder if she's a little jealous of the family unit you have, and the home comforts.

arethereanyleftatall · 01/04/2023 17:11

The difference is probably whether you actually your like your spouse or not. If you do, nothing would be more perfect than your weekend. If you don't, then yes, family stuff is to be endured rather than enjoyed.

Finalstar · 01/04/2023 17:12

Your friend sounds a bit passive aggressive and jealous TBH.

I am a homebody. Today I made a late breakfast for H and I, caught up briefly with some friends on a Zoom call, and then pottered in the garden. I'm now showered and on the sofa in my PJs, having a glass of wine and some crackers whilst mooching on MN. But crucially I don't care if other people think my life is boring - because I enjoy it, and that's all that matters.

If your friend is really a friend who cares about you, then she wouldn't be making sly digs about the fact that you aren't rat-arsed in the middle of the day in town, just because that's what she does.

WildAloofRebel · 01/04/2023 17:12

Your friend is not all that - look how shit her social skills are!

RosesofAmsterdam · 01/04/2023 17:15

I'm mid 30s and it sounds like a dream weekend to me. Just got home, already changed into my pjs and looking forward to curry and a glass of wine with DH later when DD in bed. You're living the dream!

Caterina99 · 01/04/2023 17:16

Sounds like a perfectly normal weekend with a 4 year old!

Other than DS football class this morning, we’ve just pottered at home all day. Kids have helped in garden and played. DH has done DIY. I’ve been to supermarket, done some cleaning and gardening. Steak for dinner later and maybe a glass of wine!

Tomorrow we have a school fundraising event and Sunday dinner with my DP.

All in all a lovely normal weekend. Maybe we’re boring, but clearly boring suits us just fine.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 01/04/2023 17:17

Why do you care what your friend thinks?

As long as you're enjoying yourself, isn't that all that matters?

Soapnutty · 01/04/2023 17:18

Sounds bloomin marvellous. Am a tad jealous!

Robinni · 01/04/2023 17:18

Idyllic lucky you

evtheria · 01/04/2023 17:19

Your friend is rude.

Sometimes I look back on our weekends and think "yeah... not what I pictured myself doing at 35" but I'd never say something like that to my friend about their weekend!

SpringleDingle · 01/04/2023 17:20

I don’t think I’m old and boring and yesterday evening was tea round my OHs. Today I’ve picked up DD, walked the dog, sorted the house for her birthday party this afternoon and am now hiding upstairs from 4 large teenagers. Tomorrow I’ll return teenagers in the morning and possibly make lunch and play some computer games with DD. All interspersed with dog walks. Suits us. Not boring! Your weekend sounds lovely.

Finalstar · 01/04/2023 17:20

WildAloofRebel · 01/04/2023 17:12

Your friend is not all that - look how shit her social skills are!

Very true.

In fact if you want to channel your friend's approach OP, you could respond to her to say that you don't want to talk out of turn but that you are concerned about the amount of alcohol she drinks as it's not healthy.

NB I don't recommend you do this - I'm only saying it to reinforce @WildAloofRebel's point that your friend is actually being pretty rude.

gettingolderandgrumpier · 01/04/2023 17:21

Never compare you life to others , and she is mad thinking everyone should live like her .
god my weekends are boring sometimes washing / looking after dc and If I’m lucky I get to go for a 5k run . Drinking cocktails sounds lovely but tbh I couldn’t be arsed doing it every weekend. I went out last night on a very rare night out had a couple of drinks decided I really didn’t want any more alcohol switched to soft drinks home for 11.30pm my nights out are even boring these days 😂.

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/04/2023 17:21

I expect she just wishes she were on holiday.

It sounds fine/nice/uneventful OP. It doesn't really matter what other people think you should be doing on your own family holiday though- the whole point is that people do what they enjoy, or what would be the point. Some people find a sedate slow paced holiday restorative, others would be bored, each to their own.

40 is hardly 'old' though. I'm 35 and consider myself quite young, albeit I am also quite boring. I'd happily spend a week mooching around doing very little, reading, seeing sights and eating nice food. I probably wouldn't watch a lot of TV on a holiday, but I wouldn't at home.
