Ok money is no object - me and my partner both work from home so (UK) location is no object. What we both absolutely love are high end delis, bijou cafes. twee cake shops, I'm sure you get the picture !

Where in the UK is best for this Mumsnet ?

Southwold? And you get the sea, although a lot of tourists in summer.

Lots of places in London, ditto tourists.

The Cotswolds, ditto tourists.

Most small tourist towns. Ilkley springs to mind if you want to head North.

Thank you! I'm not familiar with Southwold at all!! A bit more familiar with London and Cotswolds !!

Pretty town on the Exe estuary, very foodie, good retail and Exeter on your doorstep. Expensive housing though.

EffortlessDesmond · 31/03/2023 10:02

@Corsa1995 Torquay and Topsham are very different. Topsham is much more bijou!

Geranium1984 · 31/03/2023 10:02

Burford (Oxfordshire)
Bourton on the Water (Gloucester)
Most of Oxford
Battersea, Wandsworth, Clapham, Kensington, Notting Hill
Central Edinburgh

Ludlow in Shropshire - at one time (possibly still the case?) it has the highest number of Michelin starred restaurants outside of london. Lots of lovely delis, butchers, bakeries, a brewery, farm shops etc.

Mushroo · 31/03/2023 11:02

If you want ‘urban’ DIdsbury south Manchester.

2 independent butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, a cheesemonger and loads of delis / cafes, a pattiserie, French bakery / viennoiserie . Fairly green.

Its definitely not Cotswolds pretty so depends what you are after.

Burford is gorgeous - Huffkins is awesome, Mrs Bumbles, the butchers etc. Nice pub restaurants too. Also a country walk to the Maytime. Parking is rough though as very few places have off-street parking.

Bourton is too much of a nightmare with tourists in my opinion, I wouldn’t live there for all the tea in China! In the summer months, you can’t drive through, tourists photograph your front door, block your drive, it’s teeming!

With respect to the Cotswolds, Cirencester is a decent shout, Northleach winebar is exceptional and the cafe (the black sheep? Something like that?) is nice. The Wheatsheaf is very well regarded but is inconsistent in my opinion. Stow also has a Huffkins and has lots of other nice places too.

Elsewhere, Godalming or the smaller villages around Guildford might be worth investigating too.

Hebden Bridge
Harrogate
York.
Golden Triangle in Cheshire.
Other bits of Cheshire
Bits of Trafford.
West Kirby, Hoylake, Heswall in Wirral.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Whitstable

Sparkleshine21 · 31/03/2023 11:20

I’ve also lived in york and it does have a lot of cafes, markets, small food places etc but more of a historic/boho vibe than super classy, not sure what is your vibe!

Sparkleshine21 · 31/03/2023 11:21

And it has Betty’s, the most twee of all cake shops!

ZittiEBuoni · 31/03/2023 11:23

Bridport, Sherborne, Frome, Ludlow, Arundel, Whitstable, Haslemere, St Albans, Stroud all spring immediately to mind. There are loads more.

ZittiEBuoni · 31/03/2023 11:25

Cirencester, basically any Cotswolds town.
