There doesn't seem to be anything funny anymore. Would love to be proven wrong.

Do you mean Tele/comedian/everyday life?

TomatoSandwiches · 31/03/2023 00:49

Not even the phrase Fanny Gravel? Not the slightest tickle?

Allmyghosts · 31/03/2023 00:53

Well yeah, just watched the second series of the cleaner and I usually like Greg Davies and it was more depressing than funny tbh.

If you are referring to YV I completely understand.

Drivel like. Mrs Browns Boys and Seth Lets Flats are far removed from funny.

I miss quality comedies such as Father Ted, Phoenix Nights, Keeping Up Appearances, The Office etc

Nothing funny at all? Who do you live with. Surely your partner/kids/pets make you laugh?

youshouldnthaveasked · 31/03/2023 00:57

Tv is shite. I got more amusement from memes and Instagram videos

It's probably some people who are trigger offence by allmost anything,

Have probably made tv and society , as bland as beige grey as boring as fxck really in life,

I know the feeling,
No fun novelty songs or funny carry on style films bit risqué postcards, ect

WhyCantYourPartnerDoIt · 31/03/2023 01:31

Lol

TeeBee · 31/03/2023 01:45

I loved the first series of The Cleaner but I haven't laughed once with the new series. Not in the slightest bit funny.

Omg that series was so unfunny. I tried with the first series but flip me just not funny. So many comedy series now that you actually do not laugh at, not even a chuckle. I could list ten off the top of my head in the last two years that just are not funny and that I don’t know anyone who has enjoyed them as a comedy. Really dire

That all sounds cringey and not funny to be fair
it's not true that people are offended by everything tbh, it's kind of a made up idea to make people look ridiculous. I'd say dark/"edgy" comedy has a majority left leaning audience to be fair

Why did the prawn leave the party early?

because he pulled a mussel.
🤷🏻‍♀️ always makes me laugh.

Gatehouse77 · 31/03/2023 02:22

Daniel Sloss on Netflix. The kids (young adults) wanted to know what was making us laugh so much the morning after watching his first show!
We watched the rest together and still talk about it.

Mothership4two · 31/03/2023 03:10

Taskmaster starts this week and that's usually quite funny and Alan Davies Untitled has it's moments.

We started watching The Derry Girls last night and we were giggling away.

I'm guessing you're only talking about TV programmes OP? If not then sounds like you are depressed

the80sweregreat · 31/03/2023 04:55

I love ' the Cockfields' , was laughing away whilst Dh sat there grim faced. Everyone likes different things. I hated ' the young ones'

Sobloodysoreandfedup · 31/03/2023 05:00

Have you read the thread where the woman accidentally shared her work colleague’s Facebook page? Then someone chimes in with a story about a woman stalking her ex on Facebook and managing to tag herself as the baby in a photo of him and his new wife and baby. Fuck I had tears rolling down my face. And I don’t generally find most stuff funny.

Chickenkeev · 31/03/2023 05:03

Arrested development is so funny. It's like Modern Family on speed. But you need to be the type of person who laughs at the falling on ice guy to enjoy it.

Monkeyrules · 31/03/2023 05:04

I recently read Harry Hill's book Thirty Yeaes Not Quite At The Top. I knew comedy was difficult but he explains how it takes years to craft 5 minutes of great material by regularly doing stand up gigs and trying it out with live audiences.

I used to love TV Burp. In the book, Matthew Hall aka Harry Hill also describes how gruelling and stressful filming it was. It was good because he worked very hard at it.

When Harry Hill did a subsequent show with guest comedians, he asked them to bring something to talk about. Very few of them made the effort! I think many comedians nowadays look like they're making stuff up on the spot on comedy panel shows. A lot of 'comedians' use it as a stepping stone into acting or presenting and are not seriously trying to pursue comedy for the sake of being funny.

Finally I think the BBC has lot it's way with scouting for and developing new talent and has become very risk adverse as demonstrated by the number of old sitcoms it plans to remake such as Fawlty Towers and Open All Hours. We don't want more of the same! Comedy has a shelf life and isn't funny if you don't move on.

The only comedians I like at the moment are Ricky Gervais, Tony Law and Stewart Lee. Richard Herring has a good podcast too.

Can not remember exact title but something like new life on Netflix, where she comes out of prison back to her home coastal town. The writing is great and it is genuinely funny. 2nd series is as good.

the80sweregreat · 31/03/2023 05:15

'Back to life ' was good , but more people led than actual laugh out loud humour ( bit like the cockfields and the royal family )
I liked lead balloon with Jack Dee ( around 2011)
That really was funny.

Soontobemumof2x · 31/03/2023 06:16

I can’t remember the last time I watched a funny show I belly laughed at! Tik tok is what usually does that for me these days which in reality is sad. Miss the old days.

kateluvscats · 31/03/2023 06:21

Richard Osman Thursday Murder club books make me laugh, especially Ron's character 🤣
