To think the school shouldn’t be ignoring this?

At my DD’s primary school, where there are a lot of children of teachers who attend - There was a mum’s night out last weekend. There, one of the teachers was making unkind comments about some of the children. Including that a couple were spoiled brats, she also speculated that ‘something is wrong’ with a particular child and also slagged off various parents. The people who attended the night out have complained to the headteacher as they felt this teacher, though very drunk, clearly crossed a line.

The school have done nothing but apologised on her behalf.

AIBU to think that more should be done and that they should be utterly outraged at this having happened?

Reaching a breaking point doesn’t make it ok to do what she did.

You've had the patience of a Saint on this thread OP.

No but it makes it completely understandable. Like sen needs make things understandable

OP you should go to the head about your concerns about your DC and mention what you heard.

I've had an issue with my SEN child's needs not being met. I waited to see the head as I didn't want to be "that parent." I wished I'd gone sooner as she investigated and they weren't being met.

OP - you and your DC don't deserve this. It's nasty and agree teacher should be sacked.

Most teachers I've come across are brilliant but a tiny minority aren't fit to teach.

Thank you I will. I’ve been thinking of getting a private assessment too as schools won’t assess certain things h til a particular age

It’s NOT understand me that she calls children names when half cut to an audience of other parents! If you ‘understand’ or support that it says a lot about you TBH.

I had to get a private assessment for my child. I did it when she was 7. Vast majority of teachers have been brilliant and made a big difference. I believe legally the school has to follow recommendations made by the assessor.

MachboosRubyanAnne · 30/03/2023 20:29

*understandable

Did they actually apologise on her behalf? Why would they do that before investigating it fully?

Shocking, could be struck off the professional register on GTC for this, contravenes the professional standards that teachers are accredited to. Teacher was very stupid to go.

I agree actually.
There's no way she can continue at this school.
A temporary ban would be appropriate before she teaches again somewhere else

flutterbyebaby · 30/03/2023 20:31

You need to understand the perspective of others. Not just yours or your child.

Do you think teachers have no need to act professionally?

It is completely understandable that someone as a teacher has a gripe about the kids they teach. It’s foolish to do so but it is completely understandable and relatable. We’ve all had clients that drive us mad, doesn’t mean you can’t do a good job for them as a professional. The point about asking for help again now is that the teacher says there is an issue, so you build on that and because the school is on back foot here you can use that for leverage to get what you want for your child.

And I DON’T understand the perspective of someone who thinks it’s ok to behave this way. How can it possibly be justified?!

Agreed. There is clearly an issue here and it hasnt just occured on one drunken night.

jemimapuddlepluck · 30/03/2023 20:34

I would be struck off instantly if I insulted my clients in front of other clients. I wouldn't do that though because I have pride and am professional.

Thats clients who you want money from though. Not a child you teach. Completely different

She was out getting pissed with parents who's children go to the school she teaches at. The women doesn't seem to know what acting professionally is

Of course I don’t expect them to love and adore every kid they teach but I do expect them as a basic trait to behave professionally and not call children names. I think that’s entirely reasonable.

jemimapuddlepluck · 30/03/2023 20:36

In my line of work it just isn't acceptable and tbh I thought more of teaching than that. So nothing should be expected of teachers because they have it rough?

So if your doctor started telling their mates your name and that he thinks there’s something wrong with you, something he hadn’t shared with you personally, that would be ok as long as it was in the pub?
