...coronation street party.

"Ooh, look - there's going to be a street party for the coronation! How lovely!"

"I think I shall give that a miss, thanks."

"Oh, why? Is this some kind of anti-monarchy stand?"

"I suppose I could say so, but nah, not really."

"You don't have to do anything. The residents committee are doing all the bunting and everything."

"Oh, God - bunting?"

"There'll be sandwiches and cake and probably samosas - you like samosas."

"Not enough to go to a street party."

"Oh, come on - it's a family occasion. The girls will love it!"

(Voices from living room) "No, we won't. We're not going!"

"Ohh. Well, will you go for me? With me?"

"No. We can go away for the weekend if you like. All four of us."

"I think you're being very unreasonable."

"Ah, well - there are people I can ask about that..."

One of the strangest AIBU I have ever read….

LampLamp · 29/03/2023 18:56

I’d rather set myself on fire.

SummaLuvin · 29/03/2023 18:58

genuinely thought this was going to be about a Coronation Street themed party, damn, what a shame...

Anniegetyourgun · 29/03/2023 18:58

Oh, God - bunting?

Run away, run away.

queenofthewild · 29/03/2023 18:59

Grateful I live on a hill. The party food would roll away.

PuppyMonkey · 29/03/2023 18:59

A Coronation Street party would be great, I’d go as Hilda Ogden.

No idea what the OP is on about.

GoodChat · 29/03/2023 19:00

Don't be such a misery.

You're also going to have to deal with celebrations and road closures everywhere if you stay in the UK

Oh, God - bunting?

Run away, run away.

I love bunting!
I made two lovely long strings of red, white and blue for the Platty Joobs and fortunately had the foresight to put it away carefully afterwards so I can use it again.

I don't mind the Royals at all but I do draw the line at a street party

Floofydawg · 29/03/2023 19:03

Thank fuck I'm in the canaries while our street party is going on. Why the hell would you pretend you're friends with your neighbours just because Charlie is getting crowned? Confused

this is so interesting to me, because I actively dislike the royals, but, I was part of, and really excited for the PJ street party we had last summer as I get on well with my neighbours and it was an excuse to hang out, eat food and cake, day drink, and a general knees up.

LakieLady · 29/03/2023 19:06

It sounds like my idea of hell.

Thankfully, there are no signs of any such nonsense happening in my road, but if I get any hint that there is, I'll be buying one of these and displaying it prominently:

You and me both!!

Fuck off with the bunting and flag waving!

You sound miserable, you might have a good time if you give it a go.

How do you make a sausage roll?

Push it down a hill

I really wouldn't!

NeonBoomerang · 29/03/2023 19:11

I'd rather have my eyes gouged out than attend anything like that.

5foot5 · 29/03/2023 19:11

Our street doesn't really lend itself to that sort of thing as it wouldn't be possible to close it I don't think. But if I lived in a small cul de sac I would be tempted to suggest it. I do actually think it sounds nice.

There was a street near us had a street party for the jubilee and you could see all the decorations and preparations as you drove past. It looked lovely.

Later in the evening DD had to walk down the street on her way back from town and she said even though the party was cleared away there was still a great atmosphere. People playing music from their houses and singing along from their doorways
