...coronation street party.

"Ooh, look - there's going to be a street party for the coronation! How lovely!"

"I think I shall give that a miss, thanks."

"Oh, why? Is this some kind of anti-monarchy stand?"

"I suppose I could say so, but nah, not really."

"You don't have to do anything. The residents committee are doing all the bunting and everything."

"Oh, God - bunting?"

"There'll be sandwiches and cake and probably samosas - you like samosas."

"Not enough to go to a street party."

"Oh, come on - it's a family occasion. The girls will love it!"

(Voices from living room) "No, we won't. We're not going!"

"Ohh. Well, will you go for me? With me?"

"No. We can go away for the weekend if you like. All four of us."

"I think you're being very unreasonable."

"Ah, well - there are people I can ask about that..."

Mumsnet is stuffed full with miserable fuckers.

And judgemental ones that don't accept other people's views as well!

A Coronation Street party would be great, I’d go as Hilda Ogden.

No idea what the OP is on about.

Not me, but I'll join you as Vera Duckworth 🥂🍰🥪

Nor! Bloody autocorrect.

It’s miserable to grovel and act like the royal family are special or better than normal people. What a depressing thought!

Whatafustercluck · 29/03/2023 19:21

Why, is Steven leaving?

Sorry, wrong thread.

Floofydawg · 29/03/2023 19:22

@WalkingOnTheCracks if anyone drops out I'll be sure to let you know.

Fluffodils · 29/03/2023 19:24

The person who wants to go can go

Super.
Anyone else?

mondaytosunday · 29/03/2023 19:29

We are having one. Not sure about it. Lots of families in the street I imagine they'll all go. It's bring your own stuff and share it around and decorate as you wish - I don't think there's a central committee doing it all, just someone has notified the council about closing the street.
If my kids were kids rather than top end of teenagedom I'd probably make an effort.

genuinely thought this was going to be about a Coronation Street themed party, damn, what a shame...

Me too! I'd love to dress as Bet Lynch!

Can't figure out which side the OP is on. Each to their own if they want to get involved or not.

PuttingDownRoots · 29/03/2023 19:29

I'm quite looking forward to the party on the Village Green. I'm hoping to run an activity, and will get a High Vis jacket and Walkie Talkie.

Couldn't care less either way about the Coronation but its likely to be a good party.

Porkandbeans1 · 29/03/2023 19:34

I will swop you your bunting filled street party for ours which will consist of Stella Artois, shite dance music and at least one domestic followed by the police being called.

I bagsy Elsie Tanner then!

ColdHandsHotHead · 29/03/2023 19:37

If I see one, I'll try to nick some cake.

WaggyTailsWetNoses · 29/03/2023 19:38

As the unashamed champagne socialist granddaughter of a communist city councillor, I shall be spending the coronation weekend in Paris. Not a sausage roll or warm beer in sight. Vive la republique!

WhisperingAutistic · 29/03/2023 19:40

Sounds fun!

unintentional but we booked our holiday to start om May 6th so i will be able to avoid it altogether as i will be on a plane leaving the country

LimeCheesecake · 29/03/2023 19:47

I quite like the idea of a street party- we get on quite well with our immediate neighbours and there’s a family across the way who are also lovely, and another down the street we don’t really see anymore now kids aren’t in same activities, but were always nice to chat to, so would be nice to have a street wide thing to meet up without me having to host anything. I could even get on board with bunting…. But I just can’t bring myself to see Charles’ posh hat day as a thing to celebrate.

Basically OP, i can’t tell from your post if you are unreasonable or not- are your neighbours nice?

Don't know, really. I've got nothing against them.

Then, maybe it would be pleasant to spend a couple of hours drinking wine and eating cakes, chatting with them outside, having the road closed so little ones can play safely, and being outside no one has the pressure of having hosted?

I just can’t bring myself to arrange anything for Charles, but sometimes it’s nice to have an excuse to catch up with neighbours.

this is so interesting to me, because I actively dislike the royals, but, I was part of, and really excited for the PJ street party we had last summer as I get on well with my neighbours and it was an excuse to hang out, eat food and cake, day drink, and a general knees up.

Me too!
