I'm bed ridden currently and very bored, so rightmove is my latest hobby.

My ideal house that I'll hopefully be able to afford once I'm able to magic money out of my bum will be -

4 beds, 2 bathrooms & downstairs WC.
Massive kitchen/diner with island, ideally pink units with lots of glass so I can see into the lovely garden.
2 separate living rooms and a utility room and downstairs study.
It'll be very boho and naturey themed, with tons of pictures of the kiddos and family and friends.
Outside I'd like a summer house filled sensory toys and lights etc for my sen son.

Do you have any home dreams? If so, share with a very sick and bored person please!

A four bed renovated and properly insulated cottage in the wilds of Herefordshire, with guest bathroom and large sunny kitchen.

An acre of garden, another acre of woodland, with a green house, garage and bike store.

I intend to spend my retirement hosting stressed out family & friends. 😊

Detached

Up to 3 bedrooms, at least one ensuite

Two/three bathrooms and a downstairs shower room

Close to transport links

Easy to maintain

Small, mature courtyard garden

I would like a penthouse in a city that's really busy and buzzing. Ideally with access to a nice gym and pool. And a lovely balcony where I can chug cocktails.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 28/03/2023 18:19

Oooooh, a nice detatched with large back garden, all wheelchair accessible, 2 bedrooms on 2nd floor with en suites, 2 on ground floor with wet rooms. Very large kitchen, 2 reception rooms, a nice conservatory, and a big basement to have as a reptile room. Master bedroom for me and OH, 2nd for his DS, and then the downstairs rooms for my dad and MIL if needed in future.

I would like 1x 300-500 sq meter house in Hampstead,
1x ski chalet in st moritz,
1x country chateau in south of France preferably Provence
1x beach house in Malibu + 1x beach house in Menorca

AlltheFs · 28/03/2023 18:24

My current house but a little bit bigger and with enough land to have my horse at home
instead of at a livery yard.

I live in a rural thatched cottage in a beautiful village which was (still is) my dream home. I’d just like it a bit larger (extra bed, bath and reception) to be perfect and with another 4 acres or so.

I shall give you a list:

Lovely period detached house in the countryside but only a few minutes' walk to the village shop/pub/station.
At least 4 bedrooms
Picturesque views
A scullery/boot room
A walk-in pantry
A big conservatory, a proper one - plants for the use of
A soundproofed music room - DH and chums for the use of
A dance studio fully equipped with sprung floor, mirrors, barre, piano etc
A massive country kitchen with a range cooker and a big oak table
Many lovely log fires
A morning room leading out onto the terrace. Did I mention a terrace?
A posh dining room
A large hallway with an attractive staircase and loads of room for a huge xmas tree
Many useful and pleasing to look at outbuildings
Chickens
A polytunnel

That's about it. Oh yes, and staff. Definitely staff.

Ye Gods, this is starting to sound like a setting for a Jilly Cooper novel isn't it?!

I've changed my mind, I want this house to 🤣🤣 you got me with scullery!

Ideally I would like to live in Balham or Clapham. I'm a city girl and the whole rural/nature bit doesn't do it for me. I would like enough room for people to stay occasionally and an office to work in. A second reception room would also be good, as would an island in the kitchen.

Something like this would be great.

Ooh good thread. I would like:

A (tastefully) modernised older property, probably Victorian, with some original features - doors, fireplace, stained glass, floor tiles and a porch/veranda.

Then rooms to include:
Sitting room
Snug
Dining room
Kitchen with island by
Ultility/boot room
Basement
Library/office
Games room
Craft and puzzle room
Playroom
4 bedrooms - two ensuite and one with dressing room
Main bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower

Then a swimming pool in an orangery that the roof can be removed for sunny days, sauna, hot tub (wood fired)

Lots of land - enough for a lovely garden, allotments/orchard and chickens with maybe a goat or two

Near nature, the sea and with little light pollution for stargazing.

Don't think that's much to ask...

The more the merrier! Shall we go halves? 😄

I mean, you've got to have a scullery, haven't you? Somewhere to kick your wellies off so they can dry by the boiler, and a monster sink for washing out plant pots and vases. And for bathing small dogs for those that way inclined. And somewhere to keep all the empty gin bottles...

Mum23amazingkids · 28/03/2023 19:12

Farm house with lots of fields around and no neighbours

bozzabollix · 28/03/2023 19:16

I’ve got a house I absolutely love at the moment, despite it being a money pit. But the only things I’d maybe leave it for are either a self built Grand Designs type house, or a really substantial Art Deco house by the sea. Both with plenty of land around them with a pool.

bozzabollix · 28/03/2023 19:24

Blossomtoes · 28/03/2023 17:15

That’s an absolute stunner.

Klein’s daughter wrote a book about that place. I’ve got a house built at a similar time so I found it really interesting, especially how controlling he was over what was allowed in it! Wish my place could be controlled as much (not possible with plastic child toy tat).

Sidking · 28/03/2023 19:30

Detached house on the edge of snowdonia, not right in the heart of it but somewhere with a view and no immediate neighbours with a decent garden, not loads of land or well presented flower gardens, just some outdoor space for the kids and the dogs

4 bedrooms, one ensuite with a fancy walk in shower that's like rain or a waterfall or something.

Main bathroom and a downstairs loo

Big kitchen with an island, it's where all the adults always tend to hang out in our house but we've always had small ones!

Utility room big enough for washer, dryer and space for a dog bed

Extra room downstairs for a playroom

Double garage with a room above that had a bathroom - this would be my photography studio

Plus a small building/annex/cabin thing which I would run my main business from - I work in my cellar at the moment and I hate not seeing the sun

PolkaDotMankini · 28/03/2023 19:36

I would like:

  • 4 decent-sized bedrooms, two with an ensuite and a family bathroom between the other 2, which would be identically sized. The master bedroom would be in the loft or otherwise separated from the other 3 bedrooms. Its ensuite would have a freestanding bath under a chandelier.
  • A downstairs loo and utility room big enough to actually use.
  • A study with a window.
  • A kitchen with dining area big enough for hosting Christmas dinner and a nice living room.
  • A gym with a creeping thyme roof looking out onto the garden.
  • Solar electricity, geothermal heating and all the other eco stuff you can get.
  • Oodles of clever built-in storage, a pantry, a dressing room .
  • Loads of room for off-road parking and EV charging.
  • A lovely cat-proof garden with a small stream running through it and a miniature thatched cottage that the DC could use for sleepovers.
  • A secret passageway or two.

The house would be built of Bath stone, have lots of natural light, be tastefully decorated and have no issues, ever. As money is no object, I'd never do any housework beyond loading the dishwasher as my housekeeping, maintenance and gardening teams would look after everything.

Cathyattie · 28/03/2023 19:49

What a fun post! I often day dream about this. Top priorities:

  • No ghosts
  • Quiet. No noisy neighbours, no traffic / aircraft noise.
  • Lots of birdsong
  • Small house, big garden
  • Trees
  • Sweeping driveway
  • Upstairs bedroom that gets morning sun and has balcony with beautiful view over big garden, sofa / sitting area and coffee machine for the perfect slow-up morning.
  • Big hallway / entrance with lots of storage
  • Gardens on all sides, detached house
  • Easily accessible scenic areas for long walks
  • Friendly neighbours who are just the right distance away to have privacy but not be lonely!
  • A cute little dog
  • Log fire, modern heating
  • High pressured walk-in shower
Nice to have but not essential:
  • Swimming pool

Can I have a farm, please?
I've lived in new detached, old cottages, bungalows etc., might look for one now.. ;-)

Smogtopia · 28/03/2023 20:45

5 bed period home without loft conversion - so 5 'real' bedrooms.
One room all to myself!!
Large kitchen with massive dining table and huge glass doors overlooking mature garden - not huge though!
En-suite for 'my' bedroom
Stand alone bath in mine and DH's room
En-suite in all bedrooms but decent sized - not poky cubicle showers
Large utility that hosts alllll the washing
Pantry
Houseplants everywhere that thrive and my imaginary cat doesn't shit in...
Enough space in my kitchen to house all matter of gadgets and appliances - but put away so that worktops are adorned with fancy oils and vases only
Garage full of tools bikes tents and sport stuff
Cinema / 1940's style cellar bar room
Tiled pathway
Fireplaces in bedrooms living room and bathrooms
Downstairs wc - discreet (not off main room but off of hallway)
Mature trees in my garden
2 reception rooms downstairs - one cosy adult one and one family tv room with games toys and very much lived in
Books everywhere
Family photos
Trinkets from our travels and furniture and art shipped from our destinations
A cat and a dog
Garden office / teenage den
