I'm bed ridden currently and very bored, so rightmove is my latest hobby.

My ideal house that I'll hopefully be able to afford once I'm able to magic money out of my bum will be -

4 beds, 2 bathrooms & downstairs WC.
Massive kitchen/diner with island, ideally pink units with lots of glass so I can see into the lovely garden.
2 separate living rooms and a utility room and downstairs study.
It'll be very boho and naturey themed, with tons of pictures of the kiddos and family and friends.
Outside I'd like a summer house filled sensory toys and lights etc for my sen son.

Do you have any home dreams? If so, share with a very sick and bored person please!

Mine would have 2 master bedroom suites (DH snores). I saw this on an American property programme yesterday.
A utility room large enough for an ironing board.
A kitchen diner. Ours are 2 separate rooms and they're not next to each other, so can't knock through.
A double aspect lounge with good proportions so I could have 2 sofas facing each other across the coffee table.
A study/snug with no TV.
An indoor pool at the bottom of the garden with bifold doors so it's open to the fresh air on hot days.
All the eco stuff like grey water recycling, rain water to flush toilets. Solar panels etc.

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/03/2023 13:18

And a cloakroom. I'm fed up with coats over the end if the stairs and motorcycle gear everywhere.

My dream house was on the market recently. 4 bed, 2 bath Victorian semi, 5 minutes from where I live now, so still walking distance for the city centre, school and train station. Lots of period features. Beautifully big kitchen with French doors opening out onto to a charming, secluded garden.

And at the bottom of the garden, a gate, opening out on to the park where I walk the dog, so I could just head straight out in the mornings.

It would've been perfect for us, if only I had a spare £1.3 million...

I don't want something enormous. We've got a reception room we barely use now. I'd like a wide house with beautiful views so can see them in the kitchen and in the living room. Maybe an upstairs living room with a deck as well. A room each for creative activities.

I would be tempted out of the Square Mile for that, I think 😊.

One of the most socially deprived areas in the UK!

SwedishEdith · 28/03/2023 13:35

I'd also like to have underhouse storage that's accessed from the garden as well - semi open for logs and stuff. You see it in big wooden American houses.

ThreeRingCircus · 28/03/2023 13:36

5 bedrooms (4 doubles and one single) with two ensuites. One ensuite bedroom for DH and I with enough room for a superking bed and not overlooked so I could undress in front of the window and not scare the neighbours 😁. The other ensuite room would be a guest bedroom then two rooms for DDs and the single bedroom would be my study.

An upstairs laundry room so no need to cart washing baskets up and down stairs.

A proper attic room with it's own staircase access for storage rather than having to faff about with loft ladders.

Downstairs would be a large kitchen diner looking out onto the garden with enough space for an 8 seater dining table and a corner sofa.

A separate, grown up living room free from the kids toys (they could be in the open plan kitchen/living room.) Woodburner.

A downstairs study for DH.

Large entrance hallway with a huge cupboard for coats, shoes and bags.

Downstairs WC.

Medium sized garden, I don't need anything huge but would like enough patio space for a table and chairs near to the house. Enough to keep me occupied but not overwhelming. The most important thing is it wouldn't be overlooked. I'd like enough space for a large garden shed, a greenhouse and a couple of raised beds for vegetables.

Driveway parking for 4 vehicles.

The house would be Victorian but renovated to a modern standard, still keeping traditional features.

I'd like a front door with stained glass above it.

On the edge of a town that had plenty of independent shops, cafe's and restaurants and a train station with easy access to a city. I'd be close enough so it was an easy walk into the town and had some neighbours but just on the edge so I also had easy access to countryside walks. DDs would be able to walk to and from school.

Close to the sea and somewhere with a promenade so I could walk along the seafront without having to walk on the sand.

That's all, thank you! 🤣

Money absolutely no object?
If so, I wouldn't buy a home at all. I'd just move into the very very best suite in a top luxury hotel, probably for about 6 months and then move onto another luxury venue....in various parts of the world in turn. Sounds bloody idyllic!!

theministerscat · 28/03/2023 13:39

@Zhougzhoug Oh yes, definitely! Probably most of The Modern House website houses would for the bill for me.

Tumbleweed101 · 28/03/2023 13:41

A 'witches cottage' - large functional kitchen, cosy fireplace, sensible size living room, second downstairs room as a library. Four double bedrooms so my children/guests can all stay at once. Set close to woodland and a stream, no visible neighbours, garden for herbs and veg. House would be up to date enough not to be cold. If money was no object I'd stop working, write novels and tend the garden.

I'm liking your thinking. But where would you keep your stuff?

PippaF2 · 28/03/2023 13:44
  • 5 double bedroom house all with fitted wardrobes and all ensuite (why not, this is my imaginary house!)
  • Master bedroom with an ensuite with two sinks and walk in wardrobe
  • Converted attic with built in storage - racks for putting suitcases on. Drawers for wrapping paper. Big box for the Christmas tree etc etc and the whole thing could be shut away behind cupboard doors with a really nice pull out ladder and gentle incline with handrails - basically really easy to get in and put

-Utility room upstairs! Spend my life trespassing up and down stairs with washing

-Downstairs a boot room with a shower for the dog that also has a washing machine

-Walk in pantry

-Large open plan kitchen/diner with a lounge area with huge glass doors

  • Seperate grown up lounge, cosy and carpeted
  • Play room
  • 2 offices downstairs
  • Really large driveway - where it's little stone and you get that crunching sound when you drive on it

-attached double garage where when you throw amazon boxes in there magic fairies come to take them away for recycling

It would also be a self-cleaning house. 😂

PippaF2 · 28/03/2023 13:44

Weird. Sorry didn't mean to post with so many gaps....!

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/03/2023 13:47

Very modern design. Close to nature. Big windows. A den of my own that nobody else can come in unless invited.

FlyingFang · 28/03/2023 13:49

@theministerscat that is lovely!

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 28/03/2023 13:58

location - central London with amazing city views out the front, and a huge deck with hot tub, bbq area, Lounging area and swing backing on to a beautiful and hardly used beach st the back…. Don’t thing any amount of money could make that happen so I’ll have to have two!

DH and I discuss this at LENGTH. I honestly think I would have to hire an architect and design my own home. The issue I have when I look at the nicer houses is:

I dont want a house with a million rooms. I dont need three reception rooms etc.

I dont need a house with shitloads of outbuildings/annexes.

I dont want water on the land e.g lakes, ponds, pools.

I dont want to be middle of nowhere as I like to know there are people nearby if I need help, but far enough away that no one could hear me blare music if I wanted to. Slightly tucked away out of side from the road would be nice.

A big cottage style kitchen with east facing windows to get the morning sun, with a fireplace and sofa.

Something somewhere like North Devon with views of the coast.

Your list is closest to mine.

Must haves:
View (mountains, lakes, sea, not fussed)
Bungalow (Rightmove: this means one fucking floor fgs)
3 double bedrooms plus study
Medium size kitchen or kitchen diner
Garage
Driveway

Things I don't need:
A fifth bedroom
Massive hallway with sweeping stairs
Cinema room

Yeah wow that's amazing!

I have a particular one and a particular spot in mind though, se1 would be my preference i think

Tidsleytiddy · 28/03/2023 14:06

A lovely flat in Covent Garden or a house/flat overlooking Brighton seafront. Magical
