If you work in education has any child gone on to be famous or notorious?

SpecialKCat · 27/03/2023 18:34

Having a chat with a colleague today and she said that a child we taught she thought would be a famous footballer when older.

I just wondered if anyone, who works in education, has taught a child who went on to become famous or notorious?

OP posts:

I taught a current party leader. He was very keen on his party's politics even then - he was about 13.

An astonishing amount of Olympians and murderers on here.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my Olympian and murderer mentions are absolutely true. My parents taught in the care system up until the early 80s. The murderer is not a notorious name (I can't even remember the name now tbh) but the Olympian is still a household name and apparently a thoroughly nice lad according to my dad.

@Anskl I think your Dad may also have taught me! Can you say what subject he taught?

This was at primary school, so he taught all subjects.

leaveonna · 27/03/2023 23:18

My mum went to school with Fred and Rose West's son

spanieleyes · 27/03/2023 18:59

I taught a double murderer.

What were they like as a child?

RutlandVasey · 27/03/2023 23:32

I was once in a coffee shop and overheard two teachers reminiscing about teaching Matthew Macfadyen. Does that count?

RedCarsGoFaster · 27/03/2023 18:35

My parent taught Helen Glover - the Olympian.

If you mean Secondary school then I went to that same school many years ago, but doubt I was taught by your parent (I'm too old lol)

caringcarer · 27/03/2023 23:33

I taught Tom from Big Brother. I taught Rachel who was in England Ladies Water Polo team. I taught Claire who was an International runner for Ireland. I also taught a girl called Tara, many years ago who was a princess in the Euro Disney ice show. I taught for over 25 years.

One Prime Minister.

Which one? There have been so many recently! 😉😂

My mum used to teach Catherine Zeta Jones. Didn't teach her for long as she was away a lot being in Annie. Apparently she had drawn stars around the Zeta on her maths book.

Was that Dumbarton House School in Swansea? A family member went there at the same time as CZJ, so your Mum might have taught them too!

LuluBlakey1 · 28/03/2023 00:16

One quite famous and arrogant, sexist footballer.
Three Jeremy Kyle guests.

But more importantly, numerous doctors, nurses, teachers, local politicians, academics in various research fields, scientists- people who will make a difference for others.

An astonishing amount of Olympians and murderers on here.

That’s because the OP asked about famous or notorious individuals people have taught, Olympians and murderers fall into those categories and happily - or sadly - there are quite a lot of both.

borntobequiet · 28/03/2023 05:30

And they all went to school somewhere.

Twizbe · 28/03/2023 05:59

@Ohyeahbabe most likely. It was Swansea but I don't know the name of the school.

spanieleyes · 28/03/2023 06:36

@Beddfellows

odd, he had a troubled childhood and was very insular. And his eyes.......
But he was only 4 at the time!

Are you talking about Kate Middleton?

poster didn’t say future Queen of England though - Elisabeth of Belgium went to school here, as does the Spanish Crown Princess and one of the younger Dutch princesses. There’s a boarding school in Wales that attracts future diplomats/young royalty.

Fladdermus · 28/03/2023 06:55

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/03/2023 22:50

Are you talking about Kate Middleton?

Yes. St Andrews School. Kate and I are from neighbouring villages.

MadeInChorley · 28/03/2023 07:34

@determinedtomakethiswork yes. Same primary school.

Probably because most of them are bullshit 😂

In my case - I said this particular person I was her form tutor - considering she only had me - she would know me and professionally I’m easy to track down. Then there is the potential for a law case or suing - or even retaliating from her or friends or relatives etc. So I’m not naming her.

She was clearly disturbed as a child. I tried to help her, as did everything I could do - the line was she needed to do something ‘bad’ you can’t lock people up before they commit a crime ? Wasn’t that the minority report film or something ??

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/03/2023 13:02

DM taught an Al Quaida terrorist

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/03/2023 13:03

MIL taught Dennis Waterman to sing.

SkyandSurf · 28/03/2023 13:07

Fladdermus · 27/03/2023 20:26

I taught a young girl who will one day be queen. I say 'taught' but what I really mean is 'did 2 weeks work experience in her school after completing my GCSEs'.

How is it that you remember her after all this time? I wouldn't remember one student of hundreds that I probably crossed paths with during two weeks of work experience.

Was there anything remarkable about her at the time?

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/03/2023 13:09

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/03/2023 20:36

My DM taught the son of the guy who founded and owned Penthouse ( tits mag for those too young to know).,He gave her a year’s subscription……she did not read it.

🤣🤣🤣

TorviShieldMaiden · 28/03/2023 14:35

As to Olympians- that is anyone who has won an Olympic medal? Or even been in the Olympics. Well given the possible ages of people on here and the lebgth they could have taught- that potentially a 40 year period (possibly more). How many olympic games in that time, how many medals each time- all those Olympians went to school!

Mine was a 2012 and 2016 Olympian. But I'm not naming as it will out me when linked ot other posts.

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/03/2023 14:44

We have a commonwealth silver medal holder at the club dd trains at, I've held the medal. They aren't particularly famous though.
