If you work in education has any child gone on to be famous or notorious?

Having a chat with a colleague today and she said that a child we taught she thought would be a famous footballer when older.

I just wondered if anyone, who works in education, has taught a child who went on to become famous or notorious?

A few fairly high profile athletes, including an Olympic medalist.

The problem with naming names is that it would identify the school people work in. If you Google these sort of people their schools are easy to find.

I taught a double murderer.

As a child/young adult or as a prisoner? If a child did you get vibes?

Internationalwomendayheadquarters · 27/03/2023 21:14

I taught a very well known racing driver. See them on TV all the time and I feel proud of them.

A boy I taught in reception murdered someone when he was 16

I hope that wasn't recent as our community is still mourning the murder of a 16 year old, by a 14 and 16 year old.

I cannot imagine.

My uncle taught Mo Farah running classes when he was about 12yo.

DevantMaJardin · 27/03/2023 21:19

DH works at a stage school so has taught quite a few big household names but I don't want to out which ones. I never taught anyone famous or notorious, as far as I know, although one lad had amassed quite a YouTube following by Y11.

Not a teacher, but a camper from my cabin when I was a camp counselor is a Grammy winning songwriter.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/03/2023 21:22

My dc go to Jodie Whitaker's old school. They have both had her old drama teacher as their form tutor.

My mum taught Sophie who became Sophie Wessex. No dirt, she was apparently very nice and everyone liked her.

Ooh she may have taught me! I went to the same school as Sophie a couple of years ahead of her. KC?

BasoonerOrLater · 27/03/2023 21:24

Chyna off of Love Island.

Helen Mirren attended a school I worked at… although she’s 40 years older than me so obviously I didn’t teach her personally!

Pointlessuser · 27/03/2023 21:27

Not quite the spirit of the thread but my old English teacher is now Guy Ritchie’s mother in law.

@squashyhat Yes, KC. My mum taught French and her surname began with P and she was the French teacher who wasn't actually French and wasn't very tall! What years were you there?

NEmama · 27/03/2023 21:27

I've taught a premier League footballer and a child rapist

leaveonawhimagain · 27/03/2023 21:28

Not teach, but I went to school with Lucy Letby. Same Year

My uncle went to school with Jeffrey Dahmer... apparently he was nice, but a loner. Borrowed him a pencil once in Math class

DustyLee123 · 27/03/2023 21:29

I taught someone out of Corrie.

ancientgran · 27/03/2023 21:29

This made me remember an episode of This is Your Life in the 1970s. Emlyn Hughes was the subject. One of his old teachers came on and said when he was at school she had said, "If Emlyn is as good at football as he thinks he is he'll captain England." And of course he did.

One became a journalist, one a TV presenter and one an actor in a Netflix series.

Was the Netflix actor Rege-Jean Page?

GuyFawkesDay · 27/03/2023 21:32

My Dad taught a few famous actors/comedians, his school was a bit of a performing arts "source" despite being a very normal comprehensive.

Me....um one ex-premiership footballer and a murderer 🤣🤣🤣

JudgeJ · 27/03/2023 21:33

This thread reminds me of the old song 'I danced with a man who danced with a girl who danced with the Prince of Wales'! The POW would have been the future Edward VIII .

I taught a murderer and the person they murdered. I quite liked the lad that died even though he was quite a challenge

supersop60 · 27/03/2023 21:34

Jacob Collier was in my junior choir when he was 11.

GuyFawkesDay · 27/03/2023 21:36

Me too. Wonder if it's the same ones!

Oh, I went to 6th form with the current England rugby coach. Total gent.

That reads rather oddly.

I quite liked the lad that died?

Were you surprised? We once considered keeping a primary child’s school photo ready for when we were asked for a mugshot. We didn’t of course and I’ve no knowledge of what happened to the boy but no one would have been surprised. I’ve often wondered.
