This, really.

I may be tempted to serve it with a massive salad.

There is no way to answer this. Too many variables.

Fair enough. A massive salad might pad it out

Yesterday my chicken fed 4 adults for a roast dinner with a bit left over for the cats. Can’t wait for advice on how to make it last for a week. These are the best threads. Apart from the cat tail one and the buying reality versus expectations

Anewuser · 27/03/2023 18:28

Love these threads. Someone will say that’s greedy, it should last a fortnight, then another person will say they eat two chickens a night themselves.

I just look at a cooked chicken and I’m full.

willstarttomorrow · 27/03/2023 18:30

Remember to make magic stock for soup. I am shite with a mumsnet chicken because we pick at it, make sandwiches rather than meals with flakes of said chicken, throw it to the foster kittens like a lion tamer and finally every time I make stock it is vile and gets thrown out.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 27/03/2023 18:32

Bulk it out with lentils and it will last you a month.

Anewuser · 27/03/2023 18:32

@willstarttomorrow we’ve done the same, make stock and freeze it. You just know it will be vile but it sits in the freezer until you need space then you throw it away.

Pammela · 27/03/2023 18:32

So I can do about 3, maybe 4 nights with a chicken. Chicken, leek and bacon pie; chicken and veg curry, chicken noodle soup. Then maybe a chicken salad depending on how much I’ve bulked other stuff out with veg and sides though. I doubt I’d manage a week. That’s 2 adults and 2 kids.

This has the effect of being very economical tbh

Impressive though - quite varied meals there

Our chicken fed our family of 10 for 3 weeks. Everyone was absolutely stuffed. Any more than that is just greedy.

Today I had 10 grams of chicken and 5 Lettuce leaves because I needed a hearty meal. That'll do me until at least Thursday.

gettingolderbutcooler · 27/03/2023 18:36

Yes, I make a chicken last AT LEAST a week.
I just serve it with a big salad, potatoes and pork chops.

willstarttomorrow · 27/03/2023 18:36

@PussBilledDuckyPlait- was just going to add that 😉Whatever the recipe bulk up with lentils!!!!
Honestly- so easy to make a chicken last a week as long as you have a fully stocked fridge/freezer and larder available with all necessary ingredients (especially a few more chickens).

This but with soup..I have some in my freezer that I need to throw away!

Theoneibluetin · 27/03/2023 18:40

O look the mumsnet mean girls have come out to play.
This place is getting more toxic by the day

MumOf2workOptions · 27/03/2023 18:42

If I buy a large chicken it feeds 2 adults, 2 kids as a roast dinner (but I generally do sausages aswell!) then maybe some chicken sandwiches the next day and then I put the carcass in my slow cooker and make chicken noodle soup I get about 4-5 servings from that but I'd struggle to make it do a week!!!

I got a Turkey cheap after Christmas tho we had 2 roast dinners
1 curry for freezer
Turkey and ham pie for freezer
Turkey and cranberry risotto
Turkey and chips
Sandwiches etc including Turkey, pesto and red onion panini

That we had for about a Week it was ok but repetitive!!

Zola1 · 27/03/2023 18:43

If you serve it with a centrepiece of pate and a big salad, it'll definitely last all week.

JuneBridie · 27/03/2023 18:47

I doubt we could make Foghorn Leghorn last a week. Can’t be arsed with the stock malarkey either. Four Tesco brand stock pots cost 90p, the gas required to boil an old bird to fuck would cost more than that.
