Courgette on a roast dinner

Had a lovely day out with relatively new partner yesterday (8 months, live together) got home and he said go chill in the bath I'll cook a roast dinner.

I'm thinking, this is pretty cool. Come down later to be handed a roast chicken dinner. Comprised of roasties, chicken, Yorkshire, leeks, parnips, carrots, stuffing and a small pile of salty green mush.

I'm like, err, is this leek a different way? He's like try it..it's courgette.

YANBU - absolutely no courgette mush on a roast.
YABU - he cooked you a roast fgs.

Fine with roast chicken (probably not with gravy!) but mushy? Yuk!

Haha I actually put button mushrooms on a roast the other day because they were going out of date, not something I've ever done before. The kids gobbled them up not even noticing. Dh did give me funny look when he noticed them but didn't dare say anything as I had cooked.

Some vegetables do not belong on the same plate as gravy. Courgette is one of them.

In your opinion

Travesty. I hate it when they give it you in restaurants.

I'm not really a fan of courgettes but its personal taste, you sound ungrateful.

stopringingme · 28/03/2023 17:27

A roast dinner is not a roast dinner without Yorkshire puddings.

That is all I am saying on the matter.

If someone told me to go relax in the shower while they do a full roast, I would eat it with courgettes, rice, devilled eggs or whatever else sides they added, but I am easily pleased.

KnittedCardi · 28/03/2023 17:28

Now you see, I DO add courgettes to my roast chicken, but only when it's not the classic with gravy type. We often have roast chicken with mixed roasted veg, which is yummy.

Courgette with gravy though, big no. But then I wouldn't put Yorkshires there either.

evtheria · 28/03/2023 17:28

PS I don't think courgettes are necessarily too weird, they're a green veg of sorts, though I wouldn't want them as a pile of mush really:

bussteward · 28/03/2023 17:32

the word “roasties” is a bigger crime than the courgette, tbh

You'd be horrified by me. I'm vegetarian and don't like gravy with my roast but I'd be soooo disappointed not to have Yorkshires. What would I put my broccoli cheese in??
