How many miles does your car have?

And how long do you think it'll last?

How many is too many! I've never had a car with particularly high mileage but I often see cars being sold with 150k plus miles ( obviously these are cheap cars ) but do they really have any life left in them?

20k and I expect it to last a good while.

llamazoo2 · 26/03/2023 19:49

48k, feeling like that’s high but it’s not given the car is 9 years old. Anything under 25k I consider to be really new

Sockloon · 26/03/2023 19:51

12.2k had it now 2 years. Expect it to last along time.

Boxin · 26/03/2023 19:51

130k Honda.
Had it 11 years and going strong touch wood.

septembersapphire7 · 26/03/2023 19:53

80k 2002 classic and like my best friend! firm believer that if treat your car well, it’s good for life.

plominoagain · 26/03/2023 19:54

Current one has 38000 miles ( 18 months old )

Last one had 124000 when I handed it down to husband at 3 years old . Still going strong with 130k .

One before had similar mileage , still using it as the runaround at 135 k .

All serviced to the letter though .

Custardbanana · 26/03/2023 19:55

124k I expect it to last till at least 200k.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 26/03/2023 19:56

Last one had over 200k she was an angel and would have kept going.

trevthecat · 26/03/2023 19:57

123k I've had the car 2 years. Was at 112k I think when I bought it. Its a 16 plate. Was a rep car before. Its been looked after, full service history, never had more than maintenance on the mot. I think it will see 200k

cocksstrideintheevening · 26/03/2023 19:57

60ish expect it to be good for a long time

HappiestSleeping · 26/03/2023 19:58

96000 - petrol engine, and expecting it to last until 250000 at least.

I've had petrol engines to that before and diesel engines to double that.

Modern engines have exhaust recirculation devices and catalytic converters that change things a bit but as long as you look after it, service it regularly and change the oil every 10000 miles regardless of what the service schedule says, you should be fine.

Looking after recirculation devices is just about not doing short journeys and making sure it warms up properly.

JustFrustrated · 26/03/2023 19:58

6 years old
93k miles.

Had 77 when I bought her, and she looked like new and drove like new.

Still amazing now, 16 months later.

user50and · 26/03/2023 19:59

2008 Golf 2.0 TDI 148k miles 😃
Just had the cam belt done but all good still, fingers crossed!

Teacherteachernotapreacher · 26/03/2023 19:59

90k Citroen here, 64 plate so however old that is. Praying we get to at least 150k as have no money to replace it with any time soon and do about 20k a year in it. Get it serviced every year so trying to care for it as best we can!

JaffavsCookie · 26/03/2023 20:00

I had a C8 from new quite a few years ago and got her to 199 850 miles before the gearbox went, sad times, had hoped to get past 200k

MissDollyMix · 26/03/2023 20:00

We have two cars, both with around 110k on the clock. One we’ve owned for years and one we bought with 100k already on the clock. Touch wood they’re both strong cars and seem to be going fine with only the usual maintenance costs such as tyres. No plans to replace them so I really hope they both can keep going for at least another 3-5 years! 🤞

Rebel2 · 26/03/2023 20:02

2014 polo, 48,000
I only do about 1500 miles a year now

MissDollyMix · 26/03/2023 20:02

Should also add that our previous cars (both petrol Mercedes) ran without problems until 150k when we sold them, not because anything was wrong with them but because we needed more boot space.

MuchTooTired · 26/03/2023 20:02

Mine’s got 185k on the clock, she’s 20 years old but still runs like a dream. The service history is impeccable, every common minor default has been fixed, and I see no reason why she won’t keep on going for many thousands of miles yet.

Startuplife · 26/03/2023 20:02

110k but I bought it with that. I literally drive it to the gym, supermarket and occasionally into town. I just need it to do another two years until DP is due an upgrade and then I’ll get his. At that point it will probably be a good first car for my sister.

Redglitter · 26/03/2023 20:03

35000 & it's 9 years old

GrumpyPanda · 26/03/2023 20:03

130k km, 24 yrs old Toyota. Should be good for another 70k at least although may replace it if used car prices ever stabilize again. It's starting to need some bigger components replacing but it's been a really good run until now - bought it at 3 yrs old.

Blanketenvy · 26/03/2023 20:04

84k but over 20 years old. Very damp tho Grin

LucyfurMorningstar · 26/03/2023 20:04

151k 10 year old diesel. Expect it to go 200k+. Will probably be scrapped not because it's uneconomical but just out of fashion.

HippeePrincess · 26/03/2023 20:06

Currently our cars have 60k (08 reg) And 35k (16 reg), I consider them both low mileage. I’ve owned diesels that have done between 110-150 000 miles and been great, though I think the older ones were better than cars now. There was a lot less to go wrong and simple to repair.
