Waters broke 14 weeks is there any hope?

I think my waters broke and I'm only 14 weeks along, i was stood in the kitchen and all of a sudden there was a load of bloody liquid like wee but I wasn't weeing. Maternity unit wouldn't see me because I was less than 18 weeks and EPU is shut so they told me to ring 111 who said go to A&E so now I'm sat in A&E.

There is no hope for the baby though right? :( I have had 3 miscarriages and when this one got to 12 weeks and everything looked OK I stupidly began to relax.

The waters can reseal and replenish but every case is different and it may be an issue with your cervix that would need attention too. Hope things improve and you get to see a midwife soon.

When I was pregnant with a middle a women in our groups waters went at 16weeks. The baby was born before 30weeks. There were some issues in the first year but now she seems to be a happy and healthy child.

Really hope everything is okay for you. As a woman who has sat in A&E with this type of problem many times, my heart goes out to you. Xxx

There isn't a huge amount of hope but that doesn't mean there isn't any chance of the pregnancy continuing and the baby surviving

My daughter's friend's mother had her waters break at 15/16 weeks she was told that the likelihood was she would miscarry, and she was advised to end the pregnancy - she decided not to and was given a less than 5% chance of getting to 24 weeks

She was finally induced when she was term, was having blood tests, scans and monitoring a few times a week - he's now in primary and no consequences

Thank you everyone, the positive stories are helpful although I'm not getting my hopes up, I know the odds aren't in my favour.

I'm pretty sure it was my waters and not a thingy haemorrhage a few people have mentioned, it wasn't super bloody more like pink tinged and someone up thread did it smell kind of like semen and I know its gross but it sort of did.

Still waiting for the doctor? Not sure, was told midwife originally but a nurse just came and explained that the doctor has been called in to an emergency c section and they will try and get hold of them again when they are out.

I hope who ever the doctor is with is ok though and I'm happy to wait while people are worse off.

Hopefully next update I'll have something more useful to say sorry for the ramble.

My fingers are crossed for you OP. My sister's water broke at 21 weeks when a dog ran out in the road and she had to slam on the brakes and her waters broke. She had to stay in hospital and bed rest but baby born well and healthy at 26 weeks. Don't give up hope.

QuiltedHippo · 26/03/2023 21:56

Fingers crossed for you OP, you must be so scared and upset. I'm so sorry you've had to jump through all these hoops to be seen, I hope you get some answers soon

I had similar at 15 weeks with my first pregnancy. I was sure I lost him and too scared to get checked out. I went to my 16 week scan a week later convinced it was going to be bad news. He turned 16 recently.
