MNetters obsession with weight and dress size

Why are MN posters so obsessed with weight and dress size?

There have recently been quite a lot of weight related threads.

Depressing to see that women are still very much judged on appearance and body size. I couldn't care less what size you are or how much you weigh. Just be a decent, kind person.

No fat shaming or body shaming from me.

@ReneBumsWombats Who knows? Maybe she does need more protein, maybe she doesn’t. The OP doesn’t mention portion sizes at all and part of my point is that - regardless of not knowing vital details like portion sizes - so many posters confidently reply saying ‘less carbs, more protein’. Which makes me think it’s their stock repose to any food/diet related thread.

For what it’s worth I find carbs much more filling than protein. I can eat a decent sided lunch of eg salmon and vegetables and guaranteed I will feel hungry within a couple of hours. But if I can eat a sandwich with pretty much any filling I feel full a lot longer.

I’m glad you posted this because I thought it wasn’t possible to feel like that because ‘protein fills you best’. But, I’ve gone back to eating rice and something (like fish or chicken pieces) with some veg in it and my appetite is sated for much longer and I feel more energetic (well, relatively so for someone with ME/CFS 😂)!

Personally, a massive salad fills me for a month.

I'll get me coat.

Don't bother, I ate it.

I think this is saying that if you do go low calorie (< 800), then go high protein, to make it sustainable.

HighCHO induced higher hedonic responses compared to HighPRO, as well as higher ratings for post-ingestive sensations such as Satisfaction, Food joy, Overall wellbeing and Fullness. HighPRO, on the other hand, induced higher ratings for Sweet desire post intake.

So that's saying that high protein breakfast made people have sweet cravings?

Dynamic Changes in Post-Ingestive Sensations after Consumption of a Breakfast Meal High in Protein or Carbohydrate

The obesity epidemic urges exploration of several parameters that play an important role in our eating behaviours. Post-ingestive sensations can provide a more comprehensive picture of the eating experience than mere satiety measurements. This study ai...
