My husband thinks his head would drop off if he didn’t have his traditional Sunday roast.

i’ve tried to explain that it’s not like it was 20 yrs ago !

So - tomorrow are you having

a) A traditional Sunday Roast
b) a different at home meal
c)eating out
d) something else

A. here and do every weekend, but less so when it’s hot. Mornings into lunchtime is taken up with rugby so I start it at 2-3pm, eat by 5-6pm and enjoy a glass or 2 of wine while I’m doing it. I steam veg over the pan of boiling potatoes so takes much less pans and I make sure my husband preps the veg and cleans up afterwards.

Sunday roast at a restaurant

trashcansinatra · 25/03/2023 21:36

Roast every week here.

pizzaHeart · 25/03/2023 21:40

B. and it could be anything e.g baked potatoes with beans, pasta bake, stuffed peppers, soup and sandwich. We do roast occasionally, maybe once in a two months but not with all trimmings. I do cook chicken drumsticks with vegs and potatoes quite often, every 2 weeks at least, on Saturday and then use up leftovers on Sunday. Today we were so hungry that not much left for tomorrow

mast0650 · 25/03/2023 21:40

Sunday is just a normal evening meal here. Lunch is the usual grab yourself something simple. The only time I would cook a Sunday roast for lunch is on the very rare occasions when I invite people over for Sunday lunch. I'm a bit more likely to do a roast on Sunday than on other evenings as we are more likely to be in both during the day and during the evening, but it's pretty rare. At home we used to have a roast Sunday lunch every week, but it's not something I have ever made a habit of and don't miss it.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 25/03/2023 21:41

We actually are going to have a roast but it’ll be the first one we’ve had in over 6 months if not longer.

mast0650 · 25/03/2023 21:45

Surprised at people who have a Sunday roast every week. Is that for lunch or for dinner? I think I'd get a bit bored with it. Unless I made an effort to make it more sophisticated than the fairly simple roast I normally do - but then I'd rather just do something completely different!

OrangeVelour · 25/03/2023 21:45

A. Love my Sunday dinner (probably because DP cooks it!)

buttercupcake · 25/03/2023 21:48

We have a roast every Sunday, wouldn’t feel like Sunday without one.

Divorcedalongtime · 25/03/2023 21:49

Something else. Once in a blue moon do I cook Sunday roast

StiggyZardust · 25/03/2023 21:50

We have a roast most Sundays. Tomorrow we're having pork belly, mashed potatoes and kale with cider gravy. Sort of roast but not quite.

LennyCrabbitz · 25/03/2023 21:51

"Surprised at people who have a Sunday roast every week. Is that for lunch or for dinner?"

We usually have it around 4pm. Don't bother with lunch, nice big breakfast/brunch in the morning. Depending on what we're having I'll be in the kitchen, music on, glass of something from 2pm. Don't make much mess as I clean as I go. Usually a few people joining me with a glass and chatting depending on who is passing or joining us. There's always plenty so often get last minute visitors.

In summer it's the same but big salads and chicken or a bbq quite often

oneoclock · 25/03/2023 21:52

We never have Sunday roasts. The roast beef is so expensive plus I just couldn't be bothered making one every week bu in saying that I do enjoy going out for a roast Sunday dinner. My parents made Sunday dinner every single week when I was younger, as did my Partner- his family used to take it in turns to host but I suppose people weren't as busy back then and it was most the woman who had all the time to make it. It's sad that life has changed so much. We will be having something small, perhaps a toastie

bloemen · 25/03/2023 21:52

A) A roast

We have a roast probably 2/3x a month in winter. Less so in summer or when warmer. I can happily go without though. It's defo not life or death but I do draw the line at a takeaway on a Sunday. Meal out or home cooked!

pumpkintits · 25/03/2023 21:52

Chicken salad because DH is working. Every Sunday he doesn't work it's a Sunday dinner. My DH is the cook, hence why we are having the salad when I'm in charge 🤣

turnthetoiletpaperroundproperly · 25/03/2023 21:54

A for us at dinner time though 7pm

TellySavalashairbrush · 25/03/2023 21:58

Not sure what the big fuss is about cooking a roast. They are often easier and quicker to cook than other meals, also cheaper if you shop for cheaper cuts of meat.

Wallywobbles · 25/03/2023 22:03

Get him to go and buy the ingredients for one toast meal with all of he bits plus pudding. Having paid for it and half a days labour. I'd wager he's less keen.

laloue · 25/03/2023 22:06

This week will be a roast because I’ve just done the pay day shop - so the oven goes on and I’ll also roast all the veggies for soups, bake potatoes for lunches and bits and bobs for salads for the week or to freeze. Next few Sundays will be (warmed up in the ninja) cuts off the roast with salad and steamed veg. Love a roast , but we improvise lately.

BelindaMelinda · 25/03/2023 22:07

Sunday roast. But we only have one every 6 weeks or so I'd say.

We do have a 'mini Sunday roast' as a midweek dinner a couple of times a month though. Our midweekers are just chicken, new potatoes, 2 veg in the steamer and gravy. Proper Sunday roast is a nice lump of meat, roasties, 4 veg, gravy, yorkies etc.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/03/2023 22:08

I do a roast on average every other weekend. I enjoy it…..I like the prep, having the radio on in the kitchen, DD helps me prep and we tend to chat more then. We have a big Church family and part of that involves (by choice) inviting people for Sunday lunch/dinner. We get invited too.

Tomorrow I’m doing roast pork, roast potatoes, mashed swede, cabbage, carrots, peas, stuffing, apple sauce and gravy. Followed by homemade pear and frangipan tart/custard for pudding.

Sunday roasts are a weekly ‘coming together’ meal for us, we spend longer making it but will often sit longer enjoying it.

Roserunner · 25/03/2023 22:09

DH and DC don't like roast dinners so we only read have them around Christmas. If we go to a pub on a Sunday and they still have some available I may have one but it's not very often!! I've given up making them at home as it's not worth it just for me!

Clevs · 25/03/2023 22:10

We have one every Sunday.

BelindaMelinda · 25/03/2023 22:12

Yes I think this. Our midweek 'roast' is chucking a chicken in a tray in the oven and tipping 3 bags of stuff into the steamer (new potatoes, pre cut carrots and broccoli) and a bit of bisto if I can't be arsed to make gravy. Takes about 3 minutes and it's far easier than spag bol or any number of 'standard' meals!

userxx · 25/03/2023 22:17

I find them so boring and despise the clean up. I fancy a peri peri chicken burger tomorrow.
