My husband thinks his head would drop off if he didn’t have his traditional Sunday roast.

i’ve tried to explain that it’s not like it was 20 yrs ago !

So - tomorrow are you having

a) A traditional Sunday Roast
b) a different at home meal
c)eating out
d) something else

Baked Camembert in puff pastry, petits pois and chips here - food of the gods and so easy to make!

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/03/2023 20:25

I do a semi roast most Sundays. Usually a roast chicken but tomorrow we're having pork loin steaks. DS won't eat roast pots so I do it all aside from them as no point going to that faff for just me.

TheChosenTwo · 25/03/2023 20:26

We have a roast most Sundays, it’s such a nice ritual. Plus we all love roast potatoes,
yorkshire puddings and all the veg side dishes, our roasts are quite elaborate and pretty varied so it’s never boring.
Tomorrow we are having roast slow cooked shoulder of lamb, I think it’s going to be about 8 hours in the oven on very low and I’m already excited thinking about it!

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/03/2023 20:27

D

I love a roast but I don’t think it’s been usual to have one every week since the 80s.

Tell him if you are cooking you will cook what you want. He is not the boss of you.

eastendgirl4 · 25/03/2023 20:27

Sunday roast with all the trimmings.
Always cool one unless we are going out on a Sunday so maybe once a month we don't have it

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 25/03/2023 20:28

I'm in my early 60s and have never eaten a roast dinner. Just not part of the way I grew up or live now. DH could cook his own if he wanted but in over 30 years of marriage has never done so. I assume he's not bothered.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/03/2023 20:28

begoneday · 25/03/2023 20:07

They’re so boring, just a plate full of bland components swimming in gravy. DH would have one each week if he could but I’ve moved him onto more interesting dishes.

Well only if it’s a bad one.

Skyeheather · 25/03/2023 20:29

I grew up in a "roast every Sunday in Autumn and Winter" household as did DP. When were children white potatoes were not available in the Spring and Summer so there was never a Sunday roast in those seasons, it was new potatoes, salad and cold meat.

I cook a roast twice a year, on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday otherwise we go to the Toby Carvery!

Sausage and mash for us tomorrow.

SofaSpuds · 25/03/2023 20:33

You can eat whatever you want on Sunday, and you can eat a roast dinner any day of the week.
No idea what's for dinner tomorrow yet.

I hate doing a roast as I think it's a pain in the arse to do. DH thinks they're easy, and there's little wash up - meanwhile I'm the one who has to actually clean up after he's used every pot & pan in the house, and left a roasting tray full of grease congealing on the side 😩

DDivaStar · 25/03/2023 20:33

B we're having beef stew and dumplings.

I usually cook traditional on a Sunday, sometimes a roast, but sometimes stew or cottage pie.

elm26 · 25/03/2023 20:35

Love a roast and enjoy cooking one. I grew up where it was a roast or cottage pie alternated every Sunday all year round.

I am going to the local pub with my aunt for a roast tomorrow as DH is working.

exLtEveDallas · 25/03/2023 20:37

Roast every weekend except at the height of summer. Tomorrow’s is with Haggis though for a change (with roast pots, parsnips, swede, carrots, cabbage and green beans). Favourite is Roast Lamb, but can’t afford to do that more than a few times a year (we always stick up when the supermarkets do the half price deals at Xmas).

dizzygirl1 · 25/03/2023 20:37

B) we rarely have a Sunday roast, we rarely had them growing up either. Tomorrow is lasagne

TheChosenTwo · 25/03/2023 20:38

Oh I should have said when the weather is nicer we don’t have a Sunday roast!

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 25/03/2023 20:42

A, and A every week, roast dinner and a dessert.

Growlybear83 · 25/03/2023 20:43

I'll be cooking a Sunday roast for my husband and something different for me. I love meat, but not roasted, and a traditional roast lunch is my idea of hell. I don't think I could eat a roast potato if my life depended on it. We've been together for over 45 years and I've cooked different meals for us for about 50 % of all meals over the years. He has very plain tastes and I'm the opposite so it's just easier to cook separate meals.

kaffkooks · 25/03/2023 20:44

Sunday is like any other day meal wise for us. Soup, bread, cheese for lunch then cook something for dinner which we can have leftovers of during the week. Tomorrow we're planning fish pie. Sunday morning is church so it's a bit difficult to make a roast for lunch. My MIL puts roast on timer and goes to church but the meat is usually dry and the potatoes burnt!

bluesuitcase · 25/03/2023 20:46

B. We never have a Sunday roast.

Shoppingforclothes · 25/03/2023 20:48

Roasts are definitely not bland. If cooked well the meat will be delicious and tender and the roast potatoes fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside and full of flavour. There are many ways to mix it up with different meats, different veg.

I say that as someone who loves all kinds of food. In contrast the last two nights we've had different types of curry, homemade with all the sides, starters. We love cooking and eat foods from around the world but a roast is still a delicious, flavoursome meal.

Steakandquinoa · 25/03/2023 20:58

(Nearly) always have a Sunday roast.
But it’s not always a joint of meat- anything with crispy rosemary and garlic roast potatoes classes as a roast to us.
So chicken thighs, toad in the hole, pork belly slices, Veggi/nut roast, pork chop, sliced beef and lots of veggies.

bussteward · 25/03/2023 20:59

We are actually having a roast dinner tomorrow, but only because DD is going through a “spaghetti bolognese and nothing else” phase AND she wants us to all eat together and I’m sick of bloody spag bol, so I’m going to tempt her with gravy. Personally I could live with precisely two roast dinners in the year: poultry at Christmas, lamb at Easter. Then treat Sunday like any other day and eat something nice.

In autumn/winter though I will always have crumble and custard for pudding on a Sunday and every day. But it’s spring now so I am sadly relinquishing custard.

SpongeBob2022 · 25/03/2023 21:00

I love roasts and have fond memories of them on Sundays growing up. Roast potatoes are my favourite food! DH and DS not so keen so we rarely bother. MIL always does one if we go there.

Tomorrow I'm hoping we'll eat out. But if not it'll be sausages.

redrumclub · 25/03/2023 21:02

We are going out for one, I rarely cook one probably only 3-4 times a year but we go out for one probably once a month.

369E · 25/03/2023 21:13

A, we have a Sunday roast at least 3 Sundays a month

mackthepony · 25/03/2023 21:20

Did a roast Fri,and man is it hard work. The gravy, the meat temperature, spuds, veg etc etc
