After recently discovering the song ‘Kiss you all over’ by the band Exile a few weeks ago it’s got me wondering how many other non mainstream gems there are out there that I’ve missed, is it unreasonable to ask what your unknown gem is?
Mine are…

Tina Turner- Don’t Turn around / I’ll be thunder / Ask me how I feel / Love thing / Paradise is here

Rolling Stones- Moonlight Mile

Bruce Springsteen- Racing in the streets

Bette Midler- Stay with me

A rare gem indeed by underrated band. 🙌🏻

Yay, someone knows it 😍

I struggled with this but the FBI have cleared him

I think at some point, if you don't separate the art from the artist, we'll be left with about three women.

Ryan Adams was the soundtrack of so much of my life. Fortunately I own the CDs so don't have the download dilemma. I haven't listened to anything he issued since the investigation.

re The Alarm and 68 Guns, I thought that's a song everyone in my age group would know, wasn't it really popular?

I just can't now. And I love the music so much. But it's all tainted for me now. Sounds awfully dramatic I know, but it is what it ya know? I'm v black and white that way. I miss the music so much though, i really loved him. Even went to another country to see him!

Chickenkeev · 26/03/2023 03:07

And i have the cds too, i just have a complete embargo on him.

Zvezda bt Viktor Tsoï/Kino.
Stare miasto - Lao Che
Sitkea sydan - Juha Tapio
Road to Moscow - Al Stewart
Metsakukkia - Tapani Kansa

There are more. To be fair those are not actually that obscure - but they aren't well known outside their respective countries.

MotorOilHeiress · 26/03/2023 03:24

Colter Wall - Sleeping on the Blacktop was my most-played song in 2022.

I could listen to this on loop!! I love Colter.
I also love The Night (and every other song) by Morgan Wade.
There is also a Mongolian folk metal band called The Hu. They have a really catchy song called Wolf Totem that features Mongolian throat singing.... I love it!!
The Jompson Brothers- On the run
Uncle Lucius- Keep the wolves away
Chris Rodrigues and the Spoon Lady- Angels in heaven

Getting lost in You Tube has led to some great singers and bands that I would never have heard of otherwise.

Chickenkeev · 26/03/2023 08:08

I once sang over DR and Lisa H. Was in Edinburgh, totally pissed and thought they were buskers (they were just in the street tbf). I warbled along over them, the memory of it makes me cringe so badly!

Lincslady53 · 26/03/2023 08:16

Emotionally Yours
Blind Willy McTell
The Girl From the Red River Shore

Love Sick
Isis
Spirit on the Water

Some others - Paris Match by Style Council
Valerie - Steve Winwood
Truth or Something Beautiful - Paloma Faith

Love Stevie Winwood, we saw him in Liverpool a few years back in a small venue, it was like looking over a sea of grey hair. There was one song that really stood out but I am wracking by brain cells to remember it.

Orders76 · 26/03/2023 08:37

They play McCarthur Park quite a fair bit on Sounds of the 60s, amd it was one of Ken Bruce's songs he played in the last couple of days on Radio 2.

Back in the day of juke boxes in pubs, this would be around 1980 ish, a friend of my then husband's would play this song every time he was in the pub - which was quite often.

He said it was getting his money's worth of music as it was about twice as long as most records at the time. I don't even think he particularly liked the song which was weird. 😆

Serenity45 · 26/03/2023 10:43

Lost Myself by the Longpigs- beautiful and angry and I played it a lot after my mum died

Our Lips Are Sealed by the Go Gos - light and poppy and I just like it

watcherintherye · 26/03/2023 10:49

Half Man Half Biscuit. In particular - All I Want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit! Dh introduced me to them (not literally) and we actually went to see them a few years back. Very witty songs about the realities of life.

Peccary · 26/03/2023 11:49

Elbow Great Expectations (from the pre One Day Like This era)

Longpigs On and On
Blur No Distance Left to Run

Not obscure bands but lesser know songs

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 26/03/2023 13:59
