After recently discovering the song ‘Kiss you all over’ by the band Exile a few weeks ago it’s got me wondering how many other non mainstream gems there are out there that I’ve missed, is it unreasonable to ask what your unknown gem is?
Mine are…

Tina Turner- Don’t Turn around / I’ll be thunder / Ask me how I feel / Love thing / Paradise is here

Rolling Stones- Moonlight Mile

Bruce Springsteen- Racing in the streets

Bette Midler- Stay with me

I LOVE this song! The album cover freaked me out but this song is fab, and Going to Town on Black Love too.

The whole of Black Love is amazing.

Such an underrated band.

after posting about Love and Money, another Glasgow band from back in the day - the Kevin McDermott Orchestra
loads of good songs, but best has to be Mother Natures Kitchen. the album is more than 25 years old now, but I still adore it
even better the band are still going - saw them last year

Mine is Desert Moon from Styx. Ultimate 80's Soft Rock romance and lovely memories of a wonderful summer and being young and oh so happy!

Rockingcloggs · 25/03/2023 18:52

Too many to name but one of them is Hope there's someone by Anthony & The Johnson's! It's haunting.

ClassicLib · 25/03/2023 18:52

‘World Leader Pretend’ by REM, from their 1989 album Green.

The lyric ‘This is my mistake, let me make it good’ spoke powerfully to me about a relationship I was having at the time which I knew would end very badly, but which I continued anyway. It did end catastrophically badly, but I have no regrets.

Heaven's Basement - I'll Never write a love song (Richie Hevanz version)

H.E.A.T - Rise (Either singer)

Couldn't Love You More by John Martyn.

Nick Drake fans (of which I am one) might like "Solid Air", which Martyn wrote about Drake.

HippyChickMama · 25/03/2023 19:39

Said Sadly - Smashing Pumpkins
Shimmer Like A Girl - Veruca Salt
Blow You A Kiss In The Wind - Redd Kross
Thief - Belly

Thirdchapterdilemma · 25/03/2023 19:45

Dr. Mabuse by Propoganda
it’s used in the opening scene of awesome ‘80s teen movie “Some Kind of Wonderful”

MorrisZapp · 25/03/2023 19:47

U2 did a version of Everlasting Love which blew me away and still does

MaizeBlouse · 25/03/2023 20:00

Another huge John Martyn fan here. The whole of the Solid Air albume is perfection. 'I Dont Wanna Know' can take my recco.

To the Magnetic Fields fan: give the Burning Hell a listen, i think you'll like. Start with Bird Queen of Garbage Island. You may also like the band Crumb

My niche fave of the moment is Cosmovisions by Jelly Cleaver. For anyone who likes new wave jazz then gove this a spin.

Wait til you hear Billie Ray Martin singing Stay With Me (Baby).
It will blow your mind.

Northernsouloldies · 25/03/2023 20:34

Lots of records from the Northern soul genre. Far too many to list.

ThankYouStavros · 25/03/2023 20:45

manictuesday · 25/03/2023 02:15

This is one of my faves too. Was used in that equally underrated noughties rom com "A lot like love".

The soundtrack to this film was so good!

ThankYouStavros · 25/03/2023 20:48

Cool Change - Little River Band
Whiskey lullabye - Alison Krauss / Brad Paisley
Sky Blue & Black - Jackson Browne

StonwEd · 25/03/2023 20:48

Middle child by Taylor Hawkins and the coat tail riders. First heard it sitting in my garden with my middle child during lockdown one. It's our special seeing, especially today 😭

Northernsouloldies · 25/03/2023 20:52

The mvps... Turning my heart beat up.
Mickey champion... What good am I.
Two examples of Northern soul records.

Your Woman by White Town

Oh I LOVE this song.

Love everything about it, have done for years.

I've always thought it sounds like a man singing, is it?
