After recently discovering the song ‘Kiss you all over’ by the band Exile a few weeks ago it’s got me wondering how many other non mainstream gems there are out there that I’ve missed, is it unreasonable to ask what your unknown gem is?
Mine are…

Tina Turner- Don’t Turn around / I’ll be thunder / Ask me how I feel / Love thing / Paradise is here

Rolling Stones- Moonlight Mile

Bruce Springsteen- Racing in the streets

Bette Midler- Stay with me

Can't think of one but this will make a great rainy Sunday afternoon activity looking up all these songs! Love discovering 'new' old songs and wondering how they slipped me by.

My username is a song by the Magnetic Fields, that not many people seem to have heard of apart from me.

I don’t think UK band Smoove & Turrell are well known (they aren’t in ireland anyway) but I can’t understand why - they are amazing; northern soul I think is the category.
beggerman; slow down ; hard work are incredible songs. I think I was their top listener on Spotify 😬😂

I love this song. I had the album with the Spanish version on too.

I've been listening to Robert Palmer's earlier stuff lately (70's and 80's) and he was just brilliant.

One of my ultimate faves. It was such a hit at the time and has stayed with me for 30 years (how am I this old).

Last year I re-discovered Olivia Newton John. I remember the early 70s when she was always a guest on Saturday night TV programmes before she moved to the states, then of course Grease, Xanadu and Physical, but everything else passed me by and after Physical (one of the most popular songs of the 80's) she was completely off my radar.

About this time last year, I was randomly looking on Spotify and Xanadu popped up after I'd been playing a few ELO songs. That led me to explore Olivia's other songs and I was blown away by how many songs she'd recorded and basically, I've been listening to her ever since. She was a very prolific recording artist and very popular in Australia, US, Japan, etc., but largely forgotten/ignored in Europe and the UK. Lots of songs were never even released in the UK and also plenty of TV/concert songs that weren't released at all - only preserved by people putting videos on Youtube.

There's a new duet album being released around now, with previously unreleased duets that she'd been working on during the past few years before her death. Jolene has already been released (Duet with Dolly Parton) which is awesome and only recorded a couple of years ago.

I always thought this was well known but I played Hazard by Richard Marx the other day and DH had never heard it. It may well just be my DH though!

@ItsBeginningToScabOverNow

i love LP. I had a micro phase obsessing over them last year.

LP’s cover of Halo is exceptional

A lot of my favourite songs are modern country music songs. Most don’t seem well known outside of the US but the genre is gaining popularity in the UK and elsewhere now.
