After recently discovering the song ‘Kiss you all over’ by the band Exile a few weeks ago it’s got me wondering how many other non mainstream gems there are out there that I’ve missed, is it unreasonable to ask what your unknown gem is?
Mine are…

Tina Turner- Don’t Turn around / I’ll be thunder / Ask me how I feel / Love thing / Paradise is here

Rolling Stones- Moonlight Mile

Bruce Springsteen- Racing in the streets

Bette Midler- Stay with me

Richard Harris McArthur park is a superb oddity.
Favourites are Ash shining light and Jeff Buckleys Lover, You Should've Come Over and satisfied mind.

They play McCarthur Park quite a fair bit on Sounds of the 60s, amd it was one of Ken Bruce's songs he played in the last couple of days on Radio 2.

Love your username and Still Corners

MissBridgetJones · 25/03/2023 23:45

Sooo many!

Never forget you - Noisettes
Just sprung to mind. Reminds me of being young and in love but mutually going our separate ways.

Better Days - Gun

Heard this on Forgotten 80s.
It's the same Gun who also did a cover of Word Up. I had a quick Google after hearing the song and found that the lead singer at the time is actually Sharleen Spiteri's first cousin.

ZeusandClio · 25/03/2023 23:50

Crystal Clear by The Darling Buds. Actually I love all their songs.

Spirini · 25/03/2023 23:59

@AffIt I'd forgotten about that song. I used to listen to it all the time about 8 years ago. I couldn't get into any of their other music but loved Roscoe. Such an evocative song; it took me back in time to some wilderness in the US.

I've always loved The Flaming Lips. They've been around a long time and still touring.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1. always makes me smile.

Was gonna come on to say The flaming lips, they are divine,

Silence by Dave Thomas Junior. It was used on Afterlife but no one I ask has ever heard of it.

68 Guns by The Alarm - no one’s ever heard of this if I mention it but I love it.

Oh I remember this, and heard this played live in 1985 at Croke park Dublin when The Alarm supported U2 in concert, they were fab!

JMSA · 26/03/2023 00:30

Oh and Ryan Adams magnolia mountain

I used to love ryan adams. Absolutely loved him. And he turned out to be a vile p**ck. I haven't listened to his music since. It kind of felt like a family member betraying me :(

Tessisme · 26/03/2023 02:18

Just another day by Jon Secada released in 1992

LOVE this song too @Lovegossip. So beautifully melancholy.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 26/03/2023 02:25

I struggled with this but the FBI have cleared him

I think at some point, if you don't separate the art from the artist, we'll be left with about three women.

Ryan Adams was the soundtrack of so much of my life. Fortunately I own the CDs so don't have the download dilemma. I haven't listened to anything he issued since the investigation.

re The Alarm and 68 Guns, I thought that's a song everyone in my age group would know, wasn't it really popular?

EmmaEmerald · 26/03/2023 02:45

Thanks for the playlist Brrrr!

Yeah everyone who was a teenager in the 80's knows it!
