Obviously you’re not going to be able to tell me for sure without seeing my portions etc but I’m a bit annoyed.

She’s been wfh this week, normally we don’t really see each other. I’ve just been into the kitchen to get a coffee and opened the cupboard to get a snack to go with it (a dark chocolate rice cake if that’s relevant) and she said “you eat too much. Always eating eating eating. You will get fat when you eating like this all the time”

So Monday I had
2 cups of tea
porridge with mixed seeds
a peanut cereal bar &coffee
cheese and cucumber sandwich (granary bread, butter), cranberry juice, satsuma
2 sausages and veg (carrots, broccoli, leeks, swede, sprouts). cherry yoghurt.
Plus water and herbal tea (3 herbal teas, 2 water)

Tuesday
2 cups of tea
2 weetabix
standard size bag of maltesers and coffee
2 pieces granary toast with half an avocado and sunflower seeds. Greek yoghurt with mixed ground seeds. Bag of salt and vinegar squares. Cranberry juice
shakshuka with extra veg in (courgette, aubergine, kale as well as the peppers, onion and tomatoes), feta and hummus on top, flatbread on the side
water, herbal tea as Monday

Weds and Thurs basically as Tuesday except Wednesday I had toast and marmite with my coffee, no crisps either day. Dinner Wednesday was lentil and fennel stew with rice, had a digestive biscuit afterwards, last night pork casserole with mash, green beans and broccoli.

Putting aside the fact that she was rude, I don’t think I eat that much? Basically 3 meals and one snack. Would you consider this a lot of food?

@Lamelie same continent my family is from and I would guess Chinese like mine.

Sassyfox · 24/03/2023 12:55

Is she dieting?

Theres a big misconception that slimmer people eat loads.

Sometimes they do and are just fortunate to not put on weight as easily or have a very active lifestyle.

But usually the slimmer person is actually eating smaller portions or food containing less over all calories.

Whilst the larger person eats bigger portions or crash diets and binge eats and so has more over all calories.

My size 6 friend would eat McDonald’s twice a day and graze on chocolate, sweets and crisps all day.
I was a size 16 and would not touch McDonald’s and eat salads and smoothies etc.
There was genetics at play as my friends mum was a size 6 too but overall she was eating way less calories than me but I had a misconception because my food was healthy so I assumed would be less calories than her McDonald’s.
She would also eat like that every day. Whereas I would eat extremely healthy and as little food as possible and then go silly because I’d been depriving myself.

So no you don’t eat too much but her perception may be that you do as it appears to her as though you eat more than her.

Siameasy · 24/03/2023 12:56

I knew straight away she would be from
overseas. My guess is SE Asia or E Europe based on experience. A Korean acquaintance told me I still looked pregnant when DD was still small. Oops.

GabriellaMontez · 24/03/2023 12:57

Exactly my thoughts. Why are you listing food consumption here? None of us can see you. We don't know.

All we know is that no one should be saying this to you (unless asked).

SchoolTripDrama · 24/03/2023 12:57

I think first of all you need to be honest about what you're eating. You don't need to alter it to try look good. Half an avocado and seeds?! Come on...

YouOKHun · 24/03/2023 12:58

I also scrolled past your food list @Orcubed because it’s not important. If she says anything else personal I would say “if you comment again on my personal choices, diet etc you will find your temporary lodging here will be a lot more temporary. So make sure you keep your unwanted opinions to yourself or book the nearest Travelodge for tonight”.

Then I’d get a (number of) large chocolate eclair(s) (or other calorific food of your choice), stand between her and the exit and eat the eclair in a very slow, ostentatious and slightly messy way right in front of her, like it’s the BEST thing you’ve ever tasted. Repeat as necessary

RosaBonheur · 24/03/2023 12:58

It's none of her business what or how much you eat.

I'd consider finding another lodger.

Goodread1 · 24/03/2023 12:59

Hi Op
I don't think you are eating far too much,by looks of it,

And even if you were eating far too much,

Who the fxck does this lodger of yours , thinks she, is speaking to you like that, !!!

Totally bang out of order speaking to you in that way, @Orcubed

Tell her to mind her own Business,
It's Totally inappropriate,
She is not your mother or your Auntie or even a good friend,
Cheecky cow !
And I would seriously Consirder looking for a different better lodger than her,

She sounds like a right madam, know All, thinks she she does,

Like you said, it's difficult to say without seeing the actual portion sizes. For example, some sausages can be 6 inches long and as fat as a vacuum cleaner pipe. Is the tea half filled with full fat cream and three sugars?

Also, your size also has to be taken in to consideration. I'm 4'9 and seven stone. So if I ate what you eat, I'd be as fat as a pig in a month. But for a taller woman with a thicker bone structure, it's probably not so much.

So it's difficult to say, really.

OodlesPoodle · 24/03/2023 12:59

Seeing your latest update - and that she's bigger than you, it's jealousy talking. That you can eat all that and still be slim whereas she has to practically starve herself. Only fruit for dinner is terrible - where's the protein, carbs you need for muscle maintenance and energy - so she must be doing it as a form of diet.

I worked in Germany once, with mostly German and Polish women and they would always judge me for eating pasta/sandwiches/crisps etc for lunch when all they had was a salad. And had obsessive gym routines. I was slimmer and physically fitter than them so not sure what their problem was (not sure cultural, they just seemed to be bitchy) - I took great pleasure stuffing my face with chocolate while they sour facedly nibbled at an apple. The men eating same as me never got comments however, ha.

I do know some East Asian countries are size obsessed. My friends from there hate going home because they're all a healthy size 8-10 but get grief for being too big (not a size 4-6). Interestingly no one ever comments on the men's sizes though.....

londonrach · 24/03/2023 13:00

Doesn't matter if you eaten just McDonald's and nothing else it's rude of the lodger to say anything......

Orcubed · 24/03/2023 13:01

@Thismonkeysgonetodevon @TheodoreMortlock The lentil and fennel stew was originally based on a riverford recipe but I don’t really follow the recipe anymore and just chuck in whatever veg I have as well (this time I put in diced courgette, carrot and some spring greens). We have vegetarians in the family so I don’t do the chorizo in the stew but sometimes fry it off separately and serve on top for the non veggies (didn’t bother this time). I do add a bit of smoked paprika to get the chorizo-ey flavour

Chorizo, fennel & lentils with garlic & herb flatbreads / Riverford

The mild aniseed flavour of fennel is a perfect companion to pork. The flavour of the bulbs softens and sweetens when cooked so we have added a few seeds to re-emphasis its presence. You can happily omit the seeds if you want to drop the fennel into th...

I WOULD OMIT THE OPINION.

She asked if it was a lot of food, not a breakdown of the minutiae of her intake. Read the room.

@Trollsinmyeggbox Maybe instead of acting as some unofficial moderator, you could try READING THE POST.

Yes I would consider it a lot of food AND THAT IS WHY I SAID WHAT I'D OMIT.

Please FOD and fill your day with less policing of posts.

I can't be bothered to read what you eat, nor is it relevant. Kick her out. You don't need people negging you in your own home.

^^ agree with this.

🤣 That is genuinely what I’ve eaten. As others have pointed out it’s high carb, high sugar and low in fruit so far from a perfect diet. (I really can’t bring myself to care about how many carbs I’m eating though, so far I’m doing ok on this and I enjoy what I eat!)

The cheek!

Reply “you criticise too much. Always criticising criticising criticising. You will get homeless when you're criticising like this all the time”

Seriously though, I hope you're not going to allow a lodger make you feel bad in your own home?

Sorry OP but this made me burst out laughing. Def the best response!

@Trollsinmyeggbox

To be fair to @TeaandCrumpetsforTea I think the question 'do I eat a lot of food' is open to interpretation. The calorie/carb content of things can have a big impact on what constitutes a 'lot' of food and I think it was perfectly reasonable to try and break it down in reply. The OP has now said she is a healthy weight, so that's all that matters, but she didn't say that at the beginning. In any event her lodger was just plain rude, but that wasn't actually the original question - the OP ASKED if she eats a lot of food

Killingmytime · 24/03/2023 13:14

It doesnt matter. Its not her business nor her house.
its time for her to leave

WakeMeUpInspring · 24/03/2023 13:15

I'd have told her to mind her fucking business.

So rude.

Not sure why you think this isn't true, I eat it all the time?? Actually my diet is very similar to op, I have most of the stuff listed in the kitchen right now. Seems fairly normal to me

Cherryblossoms85 · 24/03/2023 13:25

I eat about twice that. Today I've had several crackers with cheese, a bacon sandwich, a cheese sandwich, aero bar, fruit pastilles, marmite on toast. And tonight I'm having pizza. I should probably eat some veg.

IncompleteSenten · 24/03/2023 13:25

It's none of her fucking business. Tell her to wind her neck in

Stickly · 24/03/2023 13:26

Maby this is controversial of me but I knew it she wasn't British. I've found women from various different cultures have no qualms with voicing their opinion on your diet, appearance, house... i woukd honestly tell her outright she is being offensive or (as others have said) tell her to leave.
