To ask how many times you get up in the night (to pee)

I never get a full night's sleep (7-8 hours) without getting up at least once. On a bad night it can be 5-6 times.

GP not interested and I've dealt with this for years. Is this normal for some people?

I've tried cutting out caffeine completely and not drinking liquids for hours before bed. It doesn't help.

Never.
Im 60 and get really annoyed if I have to wake up to pee, which is incredibly rarely.

Boomboom22 · 24/03/2023 23:11

None now with 3 kids but before the 2nd one and from being a teenager at least once if not twice a night. So take heart, it can change. I think sleep became more important subconsciously than the fear I might wet myself!

Macaroni46 · 24/03/2023 23:15

Sounds like over active bladder. I had this. Was desperate to get help for it as was getting up every 2 hours. Proper full wees each time too!
Doctor prescribed Neditol and I had specialist physio.
Now it's reduced to usually once in the night, sometimes twice and very occasionally none (if I've had a glass of wine or two) so definitely worth going back to the doctors.

I'm early 30s and have always been this way too. I never get a good night sleep because of it either. I went to GP about it and I had to do a drink diary. They told me I basically drink too much - I do feel always thirsty but I don't have diabetes. Do you drink a lot of liquid in the day?

So I don't have any words of wisdom, just here in solidarity.

Im pregnant atm and going about 4/5 times in a night. When not pregnant it's usually about 2/3 times

Theoldwoman · 24/03/2023 23:42

Not at all, but I’m only early fifties, so hopefully not for awhile yet.

junebirthdaygirl · 25/03/2023 00:02

I was getting up once or twice at night and always stressed during the day if l was out of reach of a bathroom. I had an overactive bladder. I got botox and have never got up since even can have a lie on in the mornings which had long gone as a possibility. I am not 100% during the day more out of old habits of always making sure l know where the nearest bathroom is but definitely much better.

Hawkins003 · 25/03/2023 00:08

Around 1 most times.
I'm usually worse during the day.

Fromwetome · 25/03/2023 00:21

Zero. Getting up to wee is a sign you aren't sleeping properly not the other way round, snorers and people with sleep apnea often have to wee through the night.

0 or 1 for me. Five or six times does sound like a problem.

JimnJoyce · 25/03/2023 02:11

MintJulia · 25/03/2023 04:52

@Onthenosecco are you being serious?

It’s genuinely worrying that you think I am advocating completely cutting water out and replacing it with wine … of course I am joking.

SpringIntoChaos · 25/03/2023 07:22

I pee more at night than I do during the day 🤦‍♀️ I can go 8 hours or more during the day (teacher...just never get the opportunity 😨). So I think I'm making up for it at night...it's exhausting!

@teaandtoastwithmarmite, Are you seriously asking @Onthenosecco if they're being serious? Of course it was a joke 😆

To be fair this is significantly funnier than my joke was.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/03/2023 08:37

Hardly ever. If I wake up early on a weekend (say 5am-6am) I might get up for a wee and then go back to bed, but that is it.

anon37484291918 · 25/03/2023 08:54

I do but I'm diabetic. I get up once during the night sometimes, it depends how normal my sugars are before bed.

Scarlettpixie · 25/03/2023 08:57

Usually once if I have a good night sleep. If I wake properly at other times I still tend to go whether I really need to or not. It is always a proper wee. I drink up to the point I go to sleep (I take a cuppa or water to bed). I am 50.

musingsinmidlife · 25/03/2023 09:03

Sometimes I don't realize until the end of the day how little water I have had and then I drink a lot before bed and always have to get up.

Often it is because I wake up and once I am awake I feel I have to go, it isn't that needing to go is waking me up.

I get up 1-4 times a night usually.
