To ask how many times you get up in the night (to pee)

IconicKitty · 24/03/2023 07:45

I never get a full night's sleep (7-8 hours) without getting up at least once. On a bad night it can be 5-6 times.

GP not interested and I've dealt with this for years. Is this normal for some people?

I've tried cutting out caffeine completely and not drinking liquids for hours before bed. It doesn't help.

I'm exactly the same OP. I'm 48 and I've been like this for as long as I can remember.

To add I don't have diabetes. I've been tested for everything suggested on this thread. I've tried every suggestion on this thread.

Still need to pee.

Yants · 24/03/2023 08:55

I never really understand why my general need to pee can fluctuate so wildly for no apparent reason from day to day.

Some days I feel like I'm desperate for a pee once an hour or even more frequently, whilst other days I can go 4 or 5 hours or longer without needing to pee.

Confrontayshunme · 24/03/2023 08:56

I spoke to a friend who is a pelvic physio once about weeing in the night, and she said that for some people, it can be a nervous thing. For instance, even if I wee three or fo

Confrontayshunme · 24/03/2023 08:57

*four times I have to go as soon as I lie down. She said basically to tell myself I don't need to go. Weirdly, it worked and now I can go all night without it.

AuntieMarys · 24/03/2023 09:00

I go twice. In my 70s, totally healthy

AuntieMarys · 24/03/2023 09:00

60s even!!!

Aprilx · 24/03/2023 09:03

I am in my 50s and I am an insomniac so am awake for much of the night anyway. But I would still say not at all most nights, but sometimes I will go once.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 24/03/2023 09:05

If I have a cup of tea before I go to bed, then I need to go for a wee in the night. Otherwise not and I am 68 in May and have had three children.

LunaMay · 24/03/2023 09:06

4-5 times a night easy, type 2 diabetic. I really struggle to get up and go to the loo without getting a drink on the way back to bed. A vicious circle!

Its not urge incontinence is it? Could you be diabetic? Any other symptoms of UTI? Any prolapse? How many children you have? Any traumatic birth?

londonrach · 24/03/2023 09:13

None, I'm 47 had a child. Saying that if I wake which luckily been rare I will pop to the toilet just in case. Talk to your doctor...

xogossipgirlxo · 24/03/2023 09:24

Once or twice. I drink glass of water during the night and also before I go to bed.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/03/2023 09:30

Usually once around 3am

That's coz I work nights and I'm up with baby and wee so body clock has done that for years so nights I don't work I will still need a wee then

EyesOnThePies · 24/03/2023 09:34

Twice.

I would love to be able to sleep through.

ShippingNews · 24/03/2023 09:35

Once is normal . 5-6 times is about how many times I get up, so the same as you. But I've got an overactive bladder and I'm on medication for it . Prior to diagnosis I was getting up 15-20 times so 5-6 is bliss for me.

CatOnTheChair · 24/03/2023 09:35

Once or twice - a year.
Go and see a different GP, or try some of the ideas others have posted.
Do you pee that often during the day? Every couple of hours??

Bobbybobbins · 24/03/2023 09:37

None - I am 43.

BeanzToastie · 24/03/2023 09:38

Once usually, 2-4am. I'm 48. This has started in the last year or two but I think I'm sleeping badly due to peri and other stresses in my life.
Don't usually do much, but once I have stirred I can't get back to sleep for feeling that I need to go.

KimberleyClark · 24/03/2023 09:38

I’m 61 and don’t need to go before 6am.

Turnipworkharder · 24/03/2023 09:38

This was happening to me and I think my body just got in the habit of waking at 4am for a wee.

I started to ignore the urge and attempted to go back to sleep.
It was uncomfortable and took about 2 weeks but I no longer wake in the night for a wee.
ps. I'm much older than you.

LBOCS2 · 24/03/2023 09:40

I'm in my late 30s, two DC and an occasionally dodgy pelvic floor, and I never have to get up in the night to go to the loo. It does sound like a larger issue - that's a lot of visits to the bathroom! Do you go as frequently during the day as well?

CrunchyCarrot · 24/03/2023 09:44

Once per night. I was a lot worse though, and it turned out it was because I had a B12 deficiency. B12 affects the nerve endings and a deficiency can make your bladder feel irritated and like you need to keep going to the loo. My problem went away once I started supplementing.

GrumpyPanda · 24/03/2023 09:47

In your early 30s you can train yourself out of it. Had the same at your age or slightly younger - I'd gotten into the habit of going when waking up in the early hours, then couldn't go back to sleep for ages. When you wake up and there's a slight fullness, tell yourself you'll take a little more time. You'll soon find it's perfectly possible to drift back to full sleep from semi-awake.

JE17 · 24/03/2023 09:49

I think you should go back to your GP, that sounds excessive. You must be exhausted.

I'm late 40s, have had DC, never need to get up during the night.

tirednewmumm · 24/03/2023 09:50

Usually once, but I work out in the evening once the kids are in bed which makes me thirsty and drink loads so I blame that! I'm your age and 5-6 would worry me
