To ask how many times you get up in the night (to pee)

I never get a full night's sleep (7-8 hours) without getting up at least once. On a bad night it can be 5-6 times.

GP not interested and I've dealt with this for years. Is this normal for some people?

I've tried cutting out caffeine completely and not drinking liquids for hours before bed. It doesn't help.

It used to be 1-3 times a night, but I started training my bladder. No just in case wees like before I leave the house for an hour, if I'm at home and feel the first feeling of needing a wee, I wait until I really need to go. Now my bladded holds more wee and I don't get up to pee at all in the night

DustyLee123 · 24/03/2023 21:46

Usually not, occasionally once.

Upsidedownagain · 24/03/2023 21:51

Haven't read all the responses so this has probably been said but try to ignore the desire to get up and go. It becomes a habit that your brain wakes you up when actually your bladder is not that full. I was starting to get up several times and tried this and it did help. The other day I went to the loo in the morning and peed out a bucket load! It hadn't woken me before that.

Lcb123 · 24/03/2023 21:53

That’s not normal at all. I’m 31 and very occasionally will get up once in the night. Please push GP for investigation

pensionconfusion · 24/03/2023 21:54

Once at most but usually none. Had kids and now peri menopausal.

CottonSock · 24/03/2023 21:56

I never sleep through the night. Its so annoying. In fact the last time I dud, I woke up starting to wet the bed.

Fairislefandango · 24/03/2023 21:57

Literally never, and I'm 51, perimenopausal and have had two children.

BecauseTheOnlyWayIsUp · 24/03/2023 22:07

I have three children, age 37. I need to go once in the night at the most and rarely at that..although I reckon if I didn't have little ones waking me up I wouldn't wake at all tbh! I would speak to a doctor, that does seems excessive at any age, and not great for sleep!

PizzaPizza56 · 24/03/2023 22:15

Go to see a physio who specialises in women's health. Sounds like pelvic floor issues.

WolfFoxHare · 24/03/2023 22:17

Once or twice - I actually used to be worse before I had children! I reckon it’s because I’m so tired now.

Schmutter · 24/03/2023 22:19

Never. I really think you need to see your GP again, OP.

I am 51 and peri menopausal. The only times in my life I’ve had to get up in the night to pee was when I was in the last stages of pregnancies.

PlantKi1ler · 24/03/2023 22:23

Mine varies depending on the time of the month, just before my period I can be up a few times a night.

The rest of the time I sleep through without needing to go until maybe 6:30am.

It must be really frustrating for you needing to pee so much because it will be disturbing your sleep. Maybe keep a diary of the amount of times you're getting up and any other relevant information and then go back to your doctor. 💐

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 24/03/2023 22:42

2-3 times. The most annoying thing is I'll go to the toilet right before I get into bed. After about 15-20 mins in bed, I feel like I'm bursting and need to go, but when I go, I must pass a tablespoon at the very most. It's so frustrating!

fandjango · 24/03/2023 22:43

How do you sleep? (apart from the getting up to pee) so you snore? I saw endless Drs about being up 4-5 times a night to pee. No one diagnosed why and then I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. You never go in to a full sleep cycle and this is why you wake for the toilet as your bladder doesn't "shut down" might be worth a look in to

Onthenosecco · 24/03/2023 22:44

FannythePinkFlamingo · 24/03/2023 07:50

Once usually and that's only because I drink a lot of water. If I've been drinking wine, and am a bit dehydrated, I don't need to go.

Maybe you should cut out the water and stick to wine instead. It’s the healthy choice - a good night sleep is very important.

Onthenosecco · 24/03/2023 22:46

I basically never get up for a pee.

Sometimes I wake up through the night for another reason and might do a pee while I’m up. I don’t sleep well a lot of the time.

L3ThirtySeven · 24/03/2023 22:48

Zero.
I’d at least ask to be tested for diabetes.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 24/03/2023 22:49

Do you drink diet fizzy drinks? I was advised to cut them out completely and I hardly ever get up in the night now.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/03/2023 22:50

None whilst I'm asleep but about 3 before I go to sleep. I have a cyst on my ovary that was 9cm about six months ago so it's making me need a wee a lot

DidyouNO · 24/03/2023 22:57

I very rarely have to get up. I'm female, 47 and have had 4 children all vaginal births. But everyone's normal is different. My husband gets up 2-5 times in a night. No vaginal births!! 😂

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/03/2023 23:01

@Onthenosecco are you being serious?

Fansandblankets · 24/03/2023 23:03

Since the menopause at least 3 times, drives me mad. Before that never.

Jakadaal · 24/03/2023 23:03

Am 58 post menopausal, never given birth or been pregnant, up at least once possibly twice

MeinKraft · 24/03/2023 23:08

1-2 times. I pee constantly through the day though when it's the second half of my cycle. No idea why.

TheAudie · 24/03/2023 23:08

I used to get up about 20 times a night.! For some reason I very rarely do now. Only when I’ve got a period
