Why don't the police care?

I have a very, very unpleasant neighbour. If I told you all about his unpleasantness I'd be here all day.

However, one of the biggest issues is his drink driving and the fact he is driving around in an uninsured, untaxed vehicle with no MOT.

I've reported him to the police and the DVLA but nothing has happened. He's still driving around pissed and still has no insurance, tax etc. It's only a matter of time before he has an accident - although looking a the state of his car he already has. He drives his wife and kids around in his car...why isn't his wife bothered?

How is it that people like this get away with it?

The police have got more important things to do like making sure we use the right pronouns and have the right opinions, they don't have time to waste on things like this where the worst that could happen is he kills a bunch of people.

SunshineGeorgie · 23/03/2023 11:17

1/they need to catch him in the act

2/ how do you know 'nothings happened'?

3/how do you know he has no not/tax/insurance?

Both. I've phoned them twice when I saw him getting in his car clearly drunk.

It's also on CCTV. He's stumbling all over the place and has a drink in his hand.

MOT and tax can be checked online

www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=2.201849108.46382770.1679570406-651751099.1679570406

SunshineGeorgie · 23/03/2023 11:22

You can't check everything online though

Op is guessing at the police not having caught/fined

TearsforBeers · 23/03/2023 11:22

I've reported while it was happening twice

2/ how do you know 'nothings happened'?

He was reported over 8 weeks ago for having no insurance, tax or MOT. He's still driving around in the car and it's STILL not insured etc. It's never been clamped or anything as it's parked outside my house every night.

3/how do you know he has no not/tax/insurance?
You can check online. All you need is the registration number. It hasn't been taxed since last summer.

What did the police say when you told them you saw a drunk man getting behind the wheel of his car? Are you ringing 999 or your local station? Maybe you'd have more luck going down your local nick and speaking to them

This is what worries me. He'll end up killing someone.

There are so many kids on our street, it's really concerning.

But the links show you can check MOT and tax, so what's your point?

You asked how does OP know about the MOT and tax, I've shown you exactly how!

Well, if something has happened it's not enough. He's still driving the car. It's still not insured, taxed or MOT'd.

I ran 999 and they said they'd send someone out.

I have spoken to our local police station who have just said they'll add our street to their patrols.

The police don't care. They're too busy raping women.

Lamelie · 23/03/2023 11:32

Honestly I’d suspect corruption/ fellow masons. And I’m the last person to finally not be automatically pro police.

Turnipworkharder · 23/03/2023 11:34

The Police don't care about a bit of drink driving,no mot or insurance.... they're too busy on Twitter checking people's 'thoughts'

Ain't that the truth!

Annoyingwurringnoise · 23/03/2023 11:40

One could presume he’s not been caught, because if he’s driving without insurance if the television is anything to go by, if a driver gets caught driving an uninsured vehicle, then the vehicle is confiscated and impounded.

Did you watch The Gold by any chance 🙄

I'm sure the police would really like to catch this person in the act and arrest them, but there are too few officers to deal with these matters unfortunately. You only have to look at the local news to see that it's mostly full of matters the police would have some involvement in.

It always amazes me that people seem to get more angry with the police than the perpetrators themselves.

That was my understanding.
And to get your car back you had to prove you had insurance.

It makes a mockery of the rest of us who pay out hundreds to make sure our cars are insured, taxed and safe to drive.

How do you check insurance 'online'
How can op breathalyser to be sure he/she is over the limit??
How does op nothings been 'done'....online too?? No, didn't think so

Cailleachian · 23/03/2023 11:44

My first thought is police informer.

Believe me, I'm furious at him. I'm also scared, he has a history of violence against women.

I'm frustrated at the police and the processes which mean he's getting away with it.

It’s honestly frightening how little the police care. I had nothing to do with the police until the last 5-6 years, and it was only two incidents - a neighbour’s burglary and witnessing an assault. The police couldn’t have given less of a shit both times. It’s scary.

TearsforBeers · 23/03/2023 11:50

How do you check insurance 'online'

Use askMID to check your vehicle (mib.org.uk)

How can op breathalyser to be sure he/she is over the limit??

I can't be 100% sure he was over the limit but I saw him drinking and he appeared very drunk. I saw enough to phone the police. His wife also confirmed they'd been drinking but didn't realise he got in the car.

How does op nothings been 'done'....online too?? No, didn't think so

No, I can't check that online but he's still driving a car that isn't insured or taxed so not enough has been done.
