Just heard What I Go To School For on R2 and am a bit surprised that it's still allowed to be played on the radio? Surely if it was a female artist singing about a secondary school pupil bonking her male teacher, it'd be banished from the airwaves?

Sorry can't enable voting on mobile app.
YABU - there's nothing wrong with it
YANBU - it's creepy

That's not what the song is about though, it's about teenage boys fancying a teacher. And it rang true for a lot of men I think 😂

Justforlaffs · 23/03/2023 08:51

YABU for listening to a radio station that still plays Busted songs - surely one of the worst bands of all time.

Flamingogirl08 · 23/03/2023 08:51

The song is about a teenage boy fancying his teacher. Why should it be banned?

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 23/03/2023 08:51

Meh, it’s nothing new, think of the police and don’t stand so close to me.

StylishM · 23/03/2023 08:52

Yeah I think you've misunderstood the song OP!

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 23/03/2023 08:55

Young girl by Gary pukett
this little girl Gary bonds or someone
I’m on fire by Bruce Springsteen

and don’t get me started in some of the current rap ones, sung my women.

busted is fairly tame in comparison.

premicrois · 23/03/2023 09:00

Bonking?

GoodChat · 23/03/2023 09:02

There are much worse pop songs than a Busted song that gets played on the radio. Almost every single new pop song is more sexualised than What I Go To School For (which isn't about them having sex with a teacher, it's about fancying a teacher).

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 23/03/2023 09:03

On their first album, the last track is a response to 'what i go to school for' where it turns out the teacher fancied him too, and they got together. I imagine they won't play that one on the new tour. 😂😂😂

DoormatBob · 23/03/2023 09:06

I'd be most annoyed that we've reached an age where any Busted song is in the R2 playlist.

Prescottdanni123 · 23/03/2023 09:21

To the people saying it is just a song about a boy fancying his 33 year old teacher, in the last verse they got together.

drpet49 · 23/03/2023 09:24

Don’t stand so close to me by The Police is still played on the radio. Same thing.

Didn't he go on to become President of France?

Oh yeah I've just looked and you're right. It's still not horrific. It's just a song and there's much worse out there.

dietcokelime · 23/03/2023 09:27

Isn't that the similar premise to turn around bright eyes?

I'm biased as busted was my first ever CD purchase and I was thrilled!

Prescottdanni123 · 23/03/2023 09:28

@GoodChat

No not horrific but I can see why some people don't like it, especially with how impressionable teenage boys are. The song makes a teacher/pupil relationship out to be cool.

The same as all the songs about gangs and drugs and domestic abuse. This isn't one to get worked up over.

And ‘Every breath you take’, which is all about stalking, was one of the UKs most popular wedding ‘first dance’ songs.

Prescottdanni123 · 23/03/2023 09:31

@GoodChat

I didn't say I was getting worked up over it. All I said is that I can understand why some people don't like it.

BethDuttonsTwin · 23/03/2023 09:34

It’s brilliant! My teens love it 😊

ComtesseDeSpair · 23/03/2023 09:34

I’ve always assumed the last verses about getting together with the teacher are fantasy, what the protagonist would like to happen, rather than reality?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 23/03/2023 09:38

As a 13 year old, they were my favourite band. Now im 33, i look back and cringe at how all the songs are basically about women and sex, which i get, they were late teens when they wrote them. I was VERY shocked to go to their a ticket for everyone tour at 14, and the song "falling for you" which on album had the line " i said are you the sound effect i paid to come and sound effect me, actually sang the words whore and fuck Shock
I was sad when they broke up in 2005, and i soooooo wanted to love their reunion album in 2016, bought it, played it, tried to like it, but bar one or two okay songs, i just couldn't. Havent even listened to the album after that. It's silly, but i wouldn't admit to my current partner or friends that i used to be a fan, their songs are just cringy, and a bit creepy looking back, but mostly just very immature, i totally get why charlie originally left as he was embarrassed. It helps that the one i fancied is no longer remotely attractive to me Grin

Regards to "what i go to school for" it was just fantasy, the teacher did not fancy him back or do anything wrong in real life. They pranked him really bad bringing her on a tv show interview after he just explained the song was written about him fancying her, he was very embarrassed and she confirmed she'd had no idea the song was even about her.

Bonking?

You must be very young?!?!

rarely hear it these days, but 3 times in a few days in here. Bit odd.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/03/2023 09:43

Whilst obviously a teenage boy's fantasy, it is a bit full-on - and the fact that it's about a specific teacher (Matt's dance teacher - albeit with her name changed in the song) is a bit off. Maybe it would have been better not to admit that part.

I wonder what Ms Blair thought when she first heard the song about a teen boy fantasising about seeing her in her underwear and desperate for a view of her ass - and more. Could also be very awkward from a safeguarding/accusation perspective, if people read more into it than just pure fantasy.
