To not want to give up Narnia?

dobermeister · 21/03/2023 10:48

When DD was a toddler I created a Narnia in her room. Basically there was an adjoining room from her bedroom, I removed the door, put a wardrobe on either side, and made the other room into Narnia. It has snowy woodland painted on all the walls, a bookcase, cushions on the floor and is basically a “snug”. DD adores in still and is always in there.

DH now wants to get rid of Narnia and turn it into a storeroom for DDs stuff. This is totally unnecessary as we have 3 other spare bedrooms as well as a cellar.

DD wants to keep Narnia. DH thinks it’s babyish and a waste of space as her bedroom is already a big room.

His issue is that his kids don’t have stuff like this at their mum’s house but that’s not mine or DDs fault is it?!

What do you think?

What one earth are you on about? Did you read my post??

Tucci · 22/03/2023 13:24

@pointythings I think you have misunderstood @Lovelyveg80 ’s post.

Tucci · 22/03/2023 13:26

@viques yes Mr Tumnus will come.

pointythings · 22/03/2023 13:28

@Lovelyveg80 I'm sorry, I have misinterpreted your post. I did a fair amount of 'thinking about my marriage' back in the day and am now single.

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/03/2023 13:49

I would die on the hill where the issue is me refusing to allow my and my children’s life to be diminished because my husband and his ex aren’t willing to do the same things for their children. I will not have my family life reduced to that.

What @SquidwardBound says.

Op has steadfastly ignored the question of how old her daughter is.

consequently I’m guessing… early thirties? 😂

either way… the op and her dh don’t seem to like each other very much let alone love one another. So if the OP really wants to provide a nice environment for her DD she might want to start thinking about her marriage

If she was late sixties (like moi) there would still be no excuse to redecorate a room she is happy with.

Lennon80 · 22/03/2023 17:26

Why did his first wife get rid?

MarvellousMonsters · 22/03/2023 20:41

If you have the room to do this and don't need it for anything else, why shouldn't she keep it?

But if he wants all his children to have equal living arrangements maybe he could increase the maintenance he sends their mother so she can afford to live in a comparable house with several spare rooms Hmm

3 responses on the first page and then a disappearing act and no photo to show, makes me think this is as much a fantasy as Narnia.

Or, alternatively the op received positive responses which bolstered her confidence to say no and then she returned to her life, no need to return to the thread.

Perhaps posting the Narnia room would be slightly identifying? I wouldn’t be surprised if the Narnia room, given that itself is fairly identifying, is actually a Harry Potter (or similar) room instead.

Did people really expect photos of her daughter’s room?

Moonlightisenthralling · 22/03/2023 22:11

Omg I want a Narnia room (late 50's) you're never too old for a Narnia room 💕

LizzieW1969 · 23/03/2023 07:52

I would have loved a Narnia room as a child. (I still would at 53! 🤣.) What a great idea, you should definitely keep it, as there’s no issue with space.

I really doubt that older teens who rarely visit will be interested in "making a stamp" on the rooms they very occasionally stay in their father's house.

That may very well be the case. If they weren't bothered then at least OP can say "well your DC aren't bothered either way, so Narnia stays"!

Or maybe the OP saw it on Insta and fancied some entertainment..

I, an adult woman fast approaching 40, would LOVE this room set-up.

People asking for photos of a child's secret room need to give their heads a wobble.

ananass · 25/03/2023 10:17

Really don’t get the Narnia obsession, I found it dull, even though I was a prolific reader as a child. The film was dull too. Must be a middle class thing.

Saltywalruss · 25/03/2023 10:20

It's not " babyish" . Narnia isn't for babies .
You have the space and she likes it. Keep it.

Why is it a middle class thing?

zingally · 25/03/2023 10:43

I'd have absolutely LOVED something like that as a child! Even now, I'd still love it! Definitely keep it!

Finding it dull or being dull?
