to think that people who attack "woke" shouldn't be surprised when institutions like the Met Police are found to be institutionally sexist, racist, homophobic etc

It reminds me of the scene in Casablanca when the police inspector is shocked at finding gambling at Ricks.

The right wing media attack "woke" all the time. There seems to be an issue when people speak up, try to do things differently, try to change a culture at a place.

And then they act shocked when it's found that the Met Police have a culture of misogyny, racism, homophobia etc.

Given all the attacks on people who try to change a culture, to try to get people to see other points of view, to try to speak up about diversity issues, it's not surprising that it doesn't seem to have been taken seriously and tolerated as trying to make changes would be seen as "woke" and the right wing media would turn on them.

Do you spend your whole life in hoc to your naive internal beliefs as opposed to paying any consideration to actual reports written by people who have investigated these things?

And let me guess, you don’t believe racism exists in this country because you’ve not experienced it. Because you’re white, right?

I would like to know exactly what kind of people are behind these reports and what their motivations are.

From my time in the work force and at university, I've seen that ethnic minorities get special treatment and extra help that is not available others. Their complaints also get air time in the media and also disproportionate outrage. It is easier to sue for unfair dismissal if you claim there is discrimination based on race or sexual orientation whereas a white straight employee would not enjoy the same protections against the same kind of bad behaviour.

There are many outreach programs available for ethnic minorities that help them get into uni, a scholarship at private school or on a reputable grad scheme. There are almost none for say impoverished white boys.

Odd. I work in a top 10 university and all of our widening participation work, summer schools, bursaries, etc., are targeted at specific (i.e. low income) socio-economic groups, not at skin colour.

It’s really very easy indeed to find out who wrote the report on the Met. If you’re actually interested in finding out, that is.

Why don't you tell me who? Probably someone Keir will offer a job to in a month or two.

Large institutions like the Met tick every woke box in the the book on paper at least. They are equality and diversity training central and it is a large part of their recruitment process. The police are a snapshot of society, if you take a large mostly male workforce of a similar size/ age demographic and scrutinise their private behaviour, their jokes, shared WhatsApp messages, previous convictions then it is probably the same. The only difference is we hold the police to higher standards because they are there to uphold the law and protect us.

Astonishingly easy! It’s been headline news today. Hardly a secret.

As for their motivations, I believe ensuring that no more women are raped, strangled and burnt by serving police officers is high up the agenda.

The right wing media are fanning the flames of the "woke" debate and seem to constantly attack any move towards changing workplaces, looking at diversity, diversity training etc.

And then they get outraged when change doesn't happen and the Met is seen to be sexist, racist etc.

People may not be on board with every change - of course not, but the right wing media should not be surprised when organisations are found to be sexist etc because if you get villified for trying to change a culture, you won't do it.

Most diversity training drips with sexism, racism and homophobia - full of sterotypes and forcing people to represent a 'group' rather than themselves. So-called diversity training is not about any lessening any of those things. It is about entrenching stereotypes whilst presentending that you're doing something useful. It is about only seeing people's race, sex or sexuality and not seeing people. It is one of the worst and most divisive things to ever happen to this country.

You do not need diversity trainging to tell you that if a police officer is convicted of masturbating on a train that he needs to not be a police officer any more.

Think of the most blinkered and prejudiced deacde of the twentieth century and ask yourself if that police officer would have been sacked then? Oh yes he would. Some diversity pillock probably things masturbating in public is 'sex postive' or some other kind of regressive rubbish.

Speaking as someone who has voted left most her life I can't see an end to the damage the witless-woke have caused in this country. And the worst are the ones who pretend it is a culture war made up by the right. Self-serving idiots.

Did you note that the Met haven't been accused of transphobia?
"Woke" is all the rainbow lanyards and dancing at Pride festivals - the police are great at that. But protecting PoC, LGB and women? - not so much.

This here.

Yes, if it wasn't for women complaining about the police harassment over trivial events like hanging ribbons out, there'd be no more mysogyny in the police force.

Stupid women.

Yep, ironically this OP just sounds like women bashing to me
