How utterly vile. What a pair of entitled arses. That poor boy.

Just awful. ‘Deserves a baby’ honestly no consideration of the child. At 15 parents will be 90 and 63, at 20 they’ll be 95 and 68. This child won’t have parents around when they start their own family will they. How will the dynamics of children and grandchildren the same age work? The being a grandfather is the same as being a father comment was really odd too, makes me think he’s not done too much parenting for any of his kids.

bellac11 · 19/03/2023 08:54

I dont think the age thing is an issue for me. Having done genealogy for years its not unusual pre contraception for women to go on having children very late into their 40s and even found a couple of early 50s. Who knows whether they would have chosen that though if they would have actually had the choice

The same with him, its a fact that men can have children until they die, its just biology. If his wife had been able to have a child still at 48 and they had done that, it probably wouldnt even be a news story

Im still unsure what I think about surrogacy. I do accept the arguments about 'rent a womb'.

I think it's bullshit. I believe she's too vain. But easier to "justify" the surrogacy by blaming busy schedules.

She's Hindu and it is a social duty to have at least one child. There's still some beliefs around bad karma and sinning in a previous life in her cultural background. So for all we know she might have medical issues that she doesn't want to make public.
As a second wife I don't agree with what's been said about having more children after a break up. It's a shame that JS couldn't have adopted an orphan from a deprived country.

XanaduKira · 19/03/2023 08:56

@bellac11 I'd agree with you if it all happened naturally but in this case it didn't, and they bought a baby from another woman (who is likely to be poor and desperate, so not anyone if their equal 'social standing') so that's what makes this entirely wrong.

TrashyPanda · 19/03/2023 08:58

Very uncomfortable with this ”rent a womb” mentality

Yes I get that, I was only commenting on the age issue.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 19/03/2023 09:09

Nobody is 'entitled' to a baby. Nobody. I cannot believe that as a society we condone the trauma of taking a baby from its mother at birth. That baby will be looking for the sound of her voice, the smell of her, the touch of her skin. Courts see taking a newborn from its mother as an absolute last resort. Yet we can still buy a baby here. Like it's a fucking puppy. The sooner surrogacy is made illegal the better.

XanaduKira · 19/03/2023 09:10

Sorry @bellac11, in which case I agree with you. If it happens naturally then so be it, and good luck to those involved as personally I can't imagine anything worse that having a teenager when you're in your 60s (as it's hard enough for me in my 40s!)

XanaduKira · 19/03/2023 09:11

Well said @StepAwayFromGoogling

& to be fair, at 48 his dw has watched that ship sail past. She's well past the point where she would expect to conceive naturally, & her dh is elderly...no. Focus on the dgc.

No, it's not a good idea. & renting another woman's womb is not ok.

What? I know several people who have conceived naturally in their late 40s, in Ireland in the prev generation where no contraception was used it wasn't that uncommon to have a wee late one. My bil was born when his mum was 49, last of 7.

Also they had miscarriages and trouble conceiving. It took us 5 years to have our first.

48 isn't ridiculous. Surrogacy is a whole moral shitshow but actually having a baby at 48 isn't that crazy

The Mother's and baby homes left the baby with mother to avoid brain damage and gain from breastfeeding in the 1960s, we have gone backwards as a society.

I never knew he was such a selfish low life. Totally different to how he was perceived. Shame.

Nobody deserves a baby

Agreed.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 19/03/2023 09:34

Surrogacy is legalising buying and selling of babies. It should be stopped. I hate it. Human trafficking in other terms disguised as surrogacy for rich folk who "deserve" a baby and some poor woman somewhere is putting her life and body as risk for their happiness

Why 42?

HermioneKipper · 18/03/2023 20:02

Yes I also found this shocking. The level of entitlement to another woman’s body is astounding.

Another one I couldn’t believe was Jamie Chen and Bryan Greenberg. She said she didn’t have time to take a break from her “career” and then announced that she had post natal depression after their surrogate gave birth to twins. 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Post natal depression? More like buyer’s remorse!

Theluggage15 · 19/03/2023 09:44

I’ve always thought he was horrible, this doesn’t surprise me.

HuggingtheHRT · 19/03/2023 09:54

God 75… imagine. Both my parents were younger than that when they died. No one should become a father at that age. I wonder what his other children think about it.

Mine too.

Why have a kid when statistically you know the chances of being around to support it to adulthood are slim? Incredible sense of entitlement...:

This.

The entitlement & lack of concern for the child is something else.

UnRavellingFast · 19/03/2023 10:30

My dad was 55 when I was born from his second wife. I grew up dreading he would die all the time and feeling very guilty about wishing I had a normal aged dad. His first set of kids hated us and made us feel like nothings. They were brought up by nannies and all have issues. He then went on to have another child in his 70s and was very proud. It does create a fucked up dynamic.

I agree about rent a womb.

UnRavellingFast · 19/03/2023 10:35

Also however good a broadcaster he is- bc he was in the choir🤔- he is indeed a nepo baby. However most privileged white males could be defined as that. I wonder where all the female, black, underprivileged etc superb journalists went? Into putting food in their mouths.

TennisWithDeborah · 19/03/2023 10:53

Buying a baby and removing it from its mother at day 1 or 2. What a terrible thing that is. I recall that ghastly couple who swooped into Ukraine at the start of the war to claim their purchase from its mother.

Have we as a society learnt nothing from the forced adoption scandal of the mid-twentieth century? The impact on mothers and babies was significant.

Myaiminlife · 19/03/2023 10:55

Except we don't let puppies be taken from their mother until they're 8 weeks old (yes I am aware that unscrupulous puppy farmers do but as a society we recognise that it is wrong).

LlynTegid · 19/03/2023 11:17

If you’re too busy for a pregnancy surely you’re too busy to be a parent?
