Have started a new thread as think it’s important this doesn’t just get lost on my previous thread

The Ofsted report for the school where the head teacher died has been published …

They are toxic and need reform immediately.

Ofsted needs to be abolished - further details
OP posts:
Singleandproud · 18/03/2023 07:55

What is the problem with it? Its factual what else should they say?

TooManyAnimals94 · 18/03/2023 07:56

Eh?

Theos · 18/03/2023 07:57

I don’t see the problem

timetorefresh · 18/03/2023 07:57

I wonder how many suicide in total Ofsted is responsible for

This. It is sad the headteacher decided to take her own life but she obviously had a lot of issues to deal with.

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 18/03/2023 08:00

Apart from the blurry as fuck photo, what's the problem?

Factual, clear, concise.

Hollyhead · 18/03/2023 08:00

I don’t know whether it should be abolished or not, but instead of striking I do think teachers collectively ignoring any aspect of their work that is driven by ofsted stress/pressure would be both a better form of industrial action and immediately improve working conditions.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/03/2023 08:00

Inappropriate for an OFSTED report when said death was directly related to the inspection.

MrsMurphyIWish · 18/03/2023 08:00

Theos · 18/03/2023 07:57

I don’t see the problem

A head teacher killed theirselves over the rating her school was given and they slip her death into the information section along side details such as breakfast club provision. I think that shows a lack of respect not only for her but her family and school community.

OP posts:
MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/03/2023 08:01

The report should be as they inspected the school and should not include any changes at the school post inspection 🧐

Did you not think that this context was important for the original post?

Strictly1 · 18/03/2023 08:03

What’s wrong with it! The headteacher took her own life due to this inspection and they include her death in a bullet point as if they’ve changed the scheme for French lessons! FFS.

Squarescrisps · 18/03/2023 08:03

I am not a fan of ofsted and I don’t often agree with its reporting, but I think I need more context to understand your OP.

That’s why the title of my thread is “further details”, same title as my previous thread which I also refer to in the OP.

Your going to get a whole lot of confused first time viewers on this thread. Would recommend linking your previous thread and maybe using 'thread 2' or something in your thread title as it's really not clear how this is connected to anything.

Most people will not have read your previous thread.

Who is Rob Kensal who is asking to meet with OFStEd?

Mumdiva99 · 18/03/2023 08:11

This whole situation is horrendous. I thought the report should be 'as was written on the day'. The death of the HT has no impact on the report.

Is Ofsted a fair system? Sometimes yes sometimes no. It's unfair that judgements remain for a long time......e.g. a school that is RI isn't always reinspected for many years......yet may have fixed the issues. But the legacy remains.

And schools like this one that was outstanding, if it had been inspected more frequently may not have jumped from one rating to something so low..... Then staff would have made the changes before this point.

The whole system is broken. I feel so sorry for her family.

needmorecoffeeandcake · 18/03/2023 08:22

Ofsted need to be reformed. My school was inspected recently. Good and remained good. But the HMI inspector involved was toxic. They would have loved to find a reason to downgrade us and spent the whole inspection trying to find something, anything to justify doing that. The level of stress and workload caused by Ofsted needs to be addressed.

Brightbluebell · 18/03/2023 08:28

Waterfallgirl · 18/03/2023 08:07

Rob Kelsall is the National Secretary for the headteachers’ union - NAHT.

Ofsted rarely, if ever, add any post inspection details into a report. To just casually slip in the death of the headteacher who committed suicide as a direct result of their actions is beyond shameful.

LlynTegid · 18/03/2023 08:33

I think the Education Secretary should intervene and have this report removed and no reports posted until some clear process to avoid any such repetition is in place.

MrsMurphyIWish · 18/03/2023 08:34

Apologies to all of my OP is unclear - will try and get it edited to include a link to my original post.

The photo is blurry as I’m not a Twitter and saved it from one of the many teacher FB groups I am a member of.

I posted in haste as am so angry on behalf of Ruth’s family and community. Wouldn’t want my error I get in the way of this important issue.

That is both insensitive and unnecessary.

Those calling for reform, what would you suggest? Surely spot checks is the only way to accurately see what is going on within a school. Or is it just a change in those doing the checks and their superiors thats required ?

Agreed. There's no need to mention this poor lady's tragic death at all. She was Headteacher at the time of the inspection, so should be listed as such.

Agree - schools, like all workplaces, should have accountability to ensure standards are met.

However, it’s the inconsistency between inspectors that’s the issue. What appeases one inspector, may not another. Some inspectors aren’t teachers and never have been.
