I support them.

Just thought I'd let people know to get their applications in ASAP.

I heard this on the radio this morning and it spurred me to put DSs passport applications in!

5 weeks seems like an age.

Meandfour · 17/03/2023 13:14

Been on the news all morning. No doubt they will get a huge influx of applications now.

Laptopneeded · 17/03/2023 13:14

It's not only the 5 weeks it's the huge massive backlog that will trigger

What are they striking for? Just pay? Don’t know whether I support them or not as I know nothing about what they earn.

That's the point. Strike action causes disruption.

Pay, overpayment of pensions, changes to reduncy terms.

Forgot to mention unmanagable workload.

Thankfully we got our baby’s passport back already and you’d think anyone with holidays booked this year has theirs sorted (bar newborns)

704703hey · 17/03/2023 13:25

I can't keep track of all the strikes at present.

Luckily I've got 6 years left on mine. But yes nightmare for anyone going abroad this summer with minimal passport time left.

Lovelyveg82 · 17/03/2023 13:26

Op

you are just quoting what they are saying is the reasoning behind them striking.

backed up with no actual data either way

Lovelyveg82 · 17/03/2023 13:30

How can people have “solidarity” with them when they don’t know the first thing in terms of facts.

Qantaqa · 17/03/2023 13:31

Do they get paid whilst they are on strike? I know teachers, nurses etc don't but they are doing random days at a time.

I support workers rights to strike. I think not doing so opens up a slippery slope to workers not having rights, but I don't understand things like unmanageable workload? Is there not enough of them to carry out the job? Are there unreasonable targets and sanctions if the targets aren't met?

BernadetteIsMySister · 17/03/2023 13:32

Can't be that badly paid if they can afford to strike for 5 weeks!

fUNNYfACE36 · 17/03/2023 13:32

If they can afford to strike fir 5 weeks they are not underpaid

PuttingDownRoots · 17/03/2023 13:34

Its not all of them is it? 1000/4000.

Came on to say exactly that!

MorganSeventh · 17/03/2023 13:37

I renewed mine earlier this month, as I thought there might be backlogs again later in the year. It was back in a week, so worth doing now.

HashBrownandBeans · 17/03/2023 13:39

Mine has been held up for five weeks now due to their incompetence. I will lose my shit if they don’t get it sorted next week

It's awkward isn't it, as you need it for ID as well as travel.

Lovelyveg82 · 17/03/2023 13:43

How convenient… 5 week strike just when weather will be turning more pleasant

MorganSeventh · 17/03/2023 13:48

I mean... there's no point in striking if it's not inconvenient, is there?

Beezknees · 17/03/2023 13:52

It's because a lot of people will be applying for passports for the summer holidays around this time.

Basic fact - no UK worker is paid when on strike.

Workloads: yes exactly - workforce was cut, targets not adjusted.
