To complain about this DPD delivery person??

I was breastfeeding the baby when the door went so I didn't answer it. A note waa put through the door saying the package was left by the back door, I assumed this meant the back gate, accessible from the driveway. I opened my back door and found the package sitting right there, inside my private garden right outside the back door which opens into my kitchen. The back gate was closed and locked (pic attached)

So the delivery person has somehow opened my back gate from the outside and walked into my private garden. I feel like this is absolutely not OK???

Pic - bottom lock is rusted open and broken, top lock is a simple latch. (Yes that is our Christmas tree on the side we dry it out over winter then chop up for garden fires!)

Blimey I’ve had Hermes open my front door and leave parcels in my hallway, when I haven’t got downstairs quick enough, and not complained. YABVU!

Hankunamatata · 14/03/2023 20:11

So they left your parcel in a secure location out of view. The audacity

isadoradancing123 · 14/03/2023 20:16

Latched is not locked, ffs stop moaning about nothing

isadoradancing123 · 14/03/2023 20:17

I think she went out to take a photo of the outside of the gate and now can't get back in!

😂
Not to worry, the delivery man knows how to get her back in.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 14/03/2023 20:30

He did his job, if you want a gate that is ‘locked’ you need a functioning lock. If you don’t want your parcel to be left in a safe place of the delivery persons choosing you need to be specific with your delivery instructions, or pop the baby off your boob for a second and answer the door. The world won’t implode.

afinethingindeed · 14/03/2023 20:32

We always have parcels left in our garden. I'm just thankful that it's been delivered and I don't have to collect or rearrange delivery.
I couldn't get annoyed about this really.
If you don't want them to do it again, I would just update your delivery preferences to specifically state not doing it. Then just let this one slide without complaint.

derbylass81 · 14/03/2023 21:03

YAbu, he delivered your parcel safely.

Ffs, some people will complain about anything.

1smallhamsterfoot · 14/03/2023 21:12

A latch isn’t a lock you dimwit

ivfbabymomma1 · 14/03/2023 21:16

I'd be very grateful they found a safe place and didn't take it back to the depo

donttellmehesalive · 14/03/2023 21:18

Another one here who would be delighted it had been left in a safe place and I didn't have to collect it from somewhere.

Did you leave instructions of where to leave it if you didn't answer the door?

It really feels as if the poor guy tried his best here.

Absolutely awful that you want to complain and get him into trouble for it.

wesriut · 14/03/2023 21:29

In todays shocking story, parcel man delivers parcel - how dare he 😂

OnaBegonia · 14/03/2023 21:33

Jesus wept, are you always such a drama queen or are you just devoid of common sense?
Couriers are told to leave in a safe place, propped at your gate isn't particularly safe, over the gate in a back garden IS, he's either chucked it over or slid the latch up from the opening (very easy to do), this is possibly the most pathetic thing I've read in some time.

JudgeRudy · 14/03/2023 21:35

That doesn't looked locked to me. Locked would be with the bolt across. You said there's no handle on the other side, but presumably there's spindle. He's probably turned that.....if not, are you suggesting he climbed over your fence, or maybe threw the parcel?
I'd say there's more chance he gave the gate a rattle and opened it then pulled it too.
Don't see the problem as long as the card indicated where it had been left. Now if he went inside your home, made a cuppa, nipped upstairs for a wee and left it on the end of your bed then....
It's common practice so you might find yourself in this situation again. Incidentally, what would you have preferred he did? Seriously though, look on line to see options for 'safe places' and redelivery so you can plan.

comingoutofmycageandillbedoingjustfine · 14/03/2023 21:36

you sound difficult.

JudgeRudy · 14/03/2023 21:42

itsmeagainagain · 14/03/2023 13:48

are you sure there isn't a latch on the other side? that would be unusual.....

Just misread that @itsmeagainagain . Thought you had sarcastically said that would be USEFUL 😆

@JudgeRudy 😂

JudgeRudy · 14/03/2023 21:46

Me too. Where's your car parked? 😉

JudgeRudy · 14/03/2023 21:50

He's clearly tampered with her gate knob but I wouldn't complain.....he might take A FENCE! 😉

Lycanthropology · 14/03/2023 22:27

Never mind the fence... this was her private garden.
Her PRIVATE garden!

BloomingXmas · 14/03/2023 22:30

Wow, 100% yabu! 😁

KarmaStar · 14/03/2023 22:43

Are you serious?🙄
They go to the trouble of leaving your parcel in a safe place and you want to complain??
Aren't you a lovely person.

IreallyLikeCrisps · 14/03/2023 23:12

If the gate was locked, then he must have chucked it over. Is it broken? If not then don't worry about it. If it is, complain to the place you bought it from.

Itsonlyagame · 14/03/2023 23:15

I'd much rather the delivery person left them round the back than sitting at the front door where the driver left mine today!

Wherewithout · 14/03/2023 23:26

This is hilarious 🤣 if it’s not a wind up I really do hope you haven’t complained about the poor guy.
