To complain about this DPD delivery person??

daisiesdahlias · 14/03/2023 13:39

I was breastfeeding the baby when the door went so I didn't answer it. A note waa put through the door saying the package was left by the back door, I assumed this meant the back gate, accessible from the driveway. I opened my back door and found the package sitting right there, inside my private garden right outside the back door which opens into my kitchen. The back gate was closed and locked (pic attached)

So the delivery person has somehow opened my back gate from the outside and walked into my private garden. I feel like this is absolutely not OK???

Pic - bottom lock is rusted open and broken, top lock is a simple latch. (Yes that is our Christmas tree on the side we dry it out over winter then chop up for garden fires!)

More like the driver should complain about you. Not answering the door. Then moaning because your parcel was left in a ssfe place.

PuddlesPityParty · 14/03/2023 15:00

Sorry but how can it have been locked if the driver got in? YABU. You got your parcel. They didn’t break in through the back door, walk into your kitchen and then hand it to you did they 🙄

CombatBarbie · 14/03/2023 15:00

So 1 it wasn't "locked". 2 would you rather he returned it undelivered? Or left on doorstep in full view.

Unless he's really tall or your gate is small I can't see how they unlatched it.... Are you sure it wasn't thrown over?

Or....... It was open and he's closed it for you.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 14/03/2023 15:00

Poor man.

HJ40 · 14/03/2023 14:37

OP said it doesn't. Despite the weirdness of this whole thing, she probably does know her own gate!

I think she went out to take a photo of the outside of the gate and now can't get back in!

jays · 14/03/2023 15:04

You are being utterly and ridiculously unreasonable!

Whatamigoingtodopleasehelp · 14/03/2023 15:05

I can’t work out how he has unlocked that latch unless he is about 6 foot 6 with arms like a orangutan.

please don’t complain, that’s really awful. Bad karma. Just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should.

Albiboba · 14/03/2023 15:06

He’s trying to make sure you get your parcel and it’s not stolen rather than you waiting longer on it being re delivered.

What a non issue.

Some people will really complain about nothing.

FlutterbButterfly · 14/03/2023 15:06

That's not locked OP, it's shut..... you need an actual padlock, combination lock or similar for it to be locked.

The driver has either reached over the top and u latched it or your gate has a similar latch he has turned/lifted from 'his' side.

He has left your delivery in a safe, secure(ish) location rather than in full view of the street. He even left you a note.

If you don't want this happening again you'll either need to state where you want it left or collect 🤷🏼‍♀️

@TheOrigRights 😂

MasterBeth · 14/03/2023 15:08

I'd be worried how secure your house is if you consider your gate was locked.

PearlClutzsche · 14/03/2023 15:10

It could be that he got into the back garden via the front garden rather than the gate, but whatever: door wasn't answered but parcel delivered safely with a card informing of its location. Job (very well) done.

Would you have preferred to have arranged another delivery when you may also have been BFing, OP?
Or the parcel left somewhere less secure or in sight of passers by?
Or to have had to go to a depot to collect it?
Seriously, what would have been better?

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 14/03/2023 15:12

PearlClutzsche · 14/03/2023 14:14

He delivered it somewhere safe and out of sight, and posted a card to tell you. AND YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN ???

Christ on a bike.

Pretty much this. Honestly, some folk are never sodding happy.

MarshaMelrose · 14/03/2023 15:15

Talk about first world problems! 😄😄😄
You got your parcel, what does it matter if he came in your garden? 🙄

CustardySergeant · 14/03/2023 15:18

Correlation · 14/03/2023 14:11

I’d be really happy the driver took the initiative and left the put the parcel somewhere out of sight

Exactly! In the OP's place, I'd be grateful, not complaining!

isthismylifenow · 14/03/2023 15:20

You have gone to the effort of taking a photo and making a thread about this... a non issue.

What is it these days about people having to complain about any little thing?

You have your parcel. If you didn't have your parcel would you feel you may need to complain about that too?

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 14/03/2023 15:28

Yabvu I'm really struggling to understand what your problem is.

SurferRona · 14/03/2023 15:29

Is OP the single person who said yes to “IABU”? 😀. 99% say you are unreasonable….quite a level of consensus!!

KillingLoneliness · 14/03/2023 15:30

I’d prefer them to leaving it in my garden rather than by the front door so I think you are being a bit unreasonable, this would bother me in the slightest.

HaveTheDayOff · 14/03/2023 15:30

You on the windup?

TheOrigRights · 14/03/2023 15:31

Whatamigoingtodopleasehelp · 14/03/2023 15:05

If you can slide something between the gate and the fence you can raise the latch. It's not hard, though OP has a pretty narrow gap.

Wifflywafflywoo · 14/03/2023 15:34

If my Evri guy did this I'd be tapping the "above and beyond" button on the review page 😄.

My postman tests my kitchen window and if it's open, sits my parcel on my inside window ledge.

My DPD driver is practically family now so I've told him to basically do what he wants as long as it doesn't involve neighbours or bins 🤷

GiltEdges · 14/03/2023 15:35

So was it latched shut, or was it locked? If the former, I can't see that he did anything wrong. If the latter, how are you suggesting he got in?

Bearpawk · 14/03/2023 15:38

Great next time he'll just ditch it in the street should he?

user1473878824 · 14/03/2023 15:40

I hope someone throws a box of grips over the gate for you.
