To complain about this DPD delivery person??

I was breastfeeding the baby when the door went so I didn't answer it. A note waa put through the door saying the package was left by the back door, I assumed this meant the back gate, accessible from the driveway. I opened my back door and found the package sitting right there, inside my private garden right outside the back door which opens into my kitchen. The back gate was closed and locked (pic attached)

So the delivery person has somehow opened my back gate from the outside and walked into my private garden. I feel like this is absolutely not OK???

Pic - bottom lock is rusted open and broken, top lock is a simple latch. (Yes that is our Christmas tree on the side we dry it out over winter then chop up for garden fires!)

To complain about this DPD delivery person??

If the gate was locked then he probably chucked it over the gate so that it was away from public view. I've had that happen before and it didn't bother me tbh.

LookingOldTheseDays · 14/03/2023 15:41

So they left it somewhere safe?

What exactly did you want them to do?!

Onnabugeisha · 14/03/2023 15:44

YABU
They usually lob the package over a gate so it is secure as there are gangs that aimlessly drive about and steal packages left in plain view from the road.

He or she has done you a favour.

monicagellerbing · 14/03/2023 15:44

Oh stop being dramatic ffs. You've had your parcel delivered. The DPD driver doesn't give a shiny shit about what's in your 'private' garden he/she are just trying to get the parcels out ffs

Ohwonderful · 14/03/2023 15:44

Absolutely unreasonable OP
Poor guys just getting his job done and ensured the parcel was safely out of sight. Its pretty standard for them to enter back gardens and place parcels in a safe spot.

Lulu1919 · 14/03/2023 15:47

I assumed locked meant with a key or padlock

I hope someone throws a box of grips over the gate for you.

😂

Liquorish · 14/03/2023 15:52

What exactly did you want them to do? Stand about until you were ready? Leave it somewhere visible so you could complain some more?

Elderflower14 · 14/03/2023 15:57

For goodness sakes. Be glad you got your bloody parcel!!

Zingy123 · 14/03/2023 16:00

What an overreaction. He was doing you a favour. I do the same job and most people are grateful to have parcels left safely. Find yourself a grip.

LoveBluey · 14/03/2023 16:10

As no harm has befallen you and you have safely received your parcel then yes very unreasonable to complain.
They didn't break in to your house or leave the parcel in the street so seems the best option when you can't answer the door to them.

AdobeWanKenobi · 14/03/2023 16:13

My amazon bloke leaves parcels on the street because he cant be arsed to walk up our drive. Literally dumped outside the front gate. I've been falling out with Amazon over it for months. I'd bloody love it if he even came onto the property 😂

soggydigestives · 14/03/2023 16:29

Bloody hell! Heard it all now!🤣🙄

DumpedByText · 14/03/2023 16:32

How have you even got time to give this headspace! They've delivered your parcel, its safe, you've got it and nothing has happened, move on and forget about it 🙄 some people just like to find something to moan about!

BlueLabel · 14/03/2023 16:32

Sorry op, I think yabu. He left the parcel in a secure place. In the same situation I'd be grateful he didn't leave it in plain view or in an easily accessible place.

CheshireCats · 14/03/2023 16:33

Utterly ridiculous.

Rinkydinkydoodle · 14/03/2023 16:35

We live on a busy main road and in the last month our delivery men have left boots in neon JD packaging (very temptingly nickable) and four huge boxes containing lighting lying right on our front step when I was out. The front door is about ten feet from the street. There is no parcel drop-off box and I know the workers are underpaid and overworked so I don’t want to get anyone into bother but I’ve made repeated notes to delivery companies to please not leave stuff in the garden. I would be glad your delivery person took time to find a safe place and also told you where it was, in our old house I often had to play hunt the parcel with the Hermes lady, though I did appreciate the fact she hid them well😝

Yerroblemom1923 · 14/03/2023 16:37

So you were at home and perfectly able to answer the door but chose to ignore it ( knowing you were expecting a delivery) and want to complain about your driver delivering your parcel in a safe place.....
Sorry, hun, how you choose to feed your baby has zero relevance here before you play that card.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 14/03/2023 16:38

Unreasonable, entitled drama llama

thereshewasshewasjustthesame · 14/03/2023 17:37

Ohhh GROW UP. You got your parcel, you are looking for something to give out about.

inside my private garden. That rhymes with moist.

DizzyLizzyKizzy · 14/03/2023 19:48

YABVU get a new lock fitted if you're that worried. Your clearly not the slightest be bothered about security.

bigbluebus · 14/03/2023 19:58

So he left your parcel in a safe place and put a note through your door to say where he'd left it. YABVU to consider complaining.

I have a bolt on the top inside of my gate. I'm more than happy for delivery drivers to reach over and unlock it to leave a delivery. Some of them have even been know to bolt it again afterwards! If I wanted total security I'd have more locks/bolts where they couldn't be reached.

mastertomsmum · 14/03/2023 20:01

Our back gate is locked. Some parcels go under it or over it safely. Generally, I’d rather stuff that could be safely was delivered under or over the gate when I’m not in or left with the neighbour. What I’m not happy with is outside front door or outside back gate. We have had stuff go missing from both locations

smellyflowers · 14/03/2023 20:08

Yes that is our Christmas tree on the side we dry it out over winter then chop up for garden fires! yabu
