So yet again a man who has attacked girls has used the 'I identify as a woman' as a way of minimising sentence, an excuse, attempting to gain access to women and girls, or whatever reason he (I refuse to call it a woman) and he has to be pandered to because .... well everyone can self identify now and well TWAW.

We never used to have this mess. There have always been a small number of individuals who would feel differently. Now there appears to be a growing number of men who identify as women who are sex offenders.

How many more will use this sick pretence?

Should we accept this man as a woman?

Or am I being unreasonable and say there needs to be more checking before we blithely accept every man that says he feels like a woman now?

It's very lazy to dismiss it as just another trans thread rather than actually thinking about the issue that some men are pretending to be women to access women/girls and to run a power trip by having his victims refer to him as she or Miss and to be treated as a woman or other reasons. Many appear accepting of this misuse.

I completely agree. I don't have a problem with someone identifying/living/presenting as another gender if that's what makes them comfortable.

But when this starts being used for nefarious purposes such as the criminal cases above, or gaining access to women's sport to gain an advantage, this has the potential to harm everyone, both biological women and those people amongst us who genuinely do no harm other than present as the gender they were not assigned at birth.

The same way as people can claim mental illness to get reduced sentances or preferential treatment.

In answer to your question OP. I think increasingly fewer. The optics are bad. It's not politically a vote winner (see Scotland's speedy u turn) and I think reviews of prison policy will see fewer violent transwomen placed in female jails.

@lazycats it's not another 'trans thread' as you say. It's a thread about why are some men allowed to pretend to be trans and use this power control - he has to be called Miss in court or she. It's true. 'she used her penis to rape' - I'm bloody angry that a man can be referred to as 'Miss' in court when he rapes a girl (after a previous conviction of raping a girl) and everyone including his victim as to call him her/Miss etc.

I heard a programme on radio 4 about trans prisoners, it said 50% of trans women in prison have a history of sex crimes, compared to 18% of male prisoners. One thing that occurred to me was to wonder if trans women are more likely to be a) prosecuted and b) found guilty in jury trials than plain old fashioned male rapists/sex offenders? Given our ridiculously low conviction rates for rape, men know rape is practically legal anyway, maybe, identifying as trans actually backfires?

A second thought was, if a man is arrested for sex offences, gets to the police station, says he's actually a woman, is a woman police officer then forced to search him?

Yes, I think this is true. Thus an abusive man gets to make another woman feel uncomfortable.

Where are all the genuine trans people in all of this? Why aren’t they up in arms about people pretending to be trans to get off serious sex offences and prey on women and girls? It’s almost as of TW don’t care about women .
