Does anyone else get fed up with people writing posts with so many confusing abbreviations on here . I’m fed up with them . Can people not just write in English . Even common ones like dh ? Is that direct husband , dickhead husband , dead husband ?? Drives me nuts . Just put husband . There’s loads .
ds , dh, dm , nc , lc , and on and on and on . Even read one today that was gsd ? I thought I’d that a good short dance , or gravy so divine, no it’s what German Shepherd dog 😂😂
Just write English for Christ sake .
Ps I’ve put this on the AIBU page , know idea what it means !

Like DD- darling daughter, or direct debit?

Seriously, can you think of a sentence where it wouldn't be obvious which one was meant?

I have no money left because of DD!

I wondered that. She also put AC for something children Confused

ItsCalledAConversation · 14/03/2023 09:26

(And if you’re going to be fussy about it, these are acronyms not abbreviations hun x)

Fair enough! 😃

But there'd be more info before or after that which would make it clear!

HaveYouSeenNancy · 14/03/2023 09:27

AS, AD, AC I think is just Adult Son, Adult Daughter, Adult Children?

Adult children!

Doesthepopeshitinthewoods · 14/03/2023 09:27

I have been here for years and I have never partaken in the acronyms. I find them utterly twee.

Dear Husband? Fuck that. Especially as the threads are usually about an inconsiderate, selfish or even abusive cunt of a man, there’s fuck all that’s ‘dear’ about them.

GarfieldAteTheLasagne · 14/03/2023 09:28

takealettermsjones · 14/03/2023 08:44

I thought (in that thread) AS was adult son, AD adult daughter. Could be wrong though!

Geesh I thought it was adopted son.

WhooYourHoo · 14/03/2023 09:29

I always get confused by DF, is it a fiancé or a friend? Then spend half the thread trying to work it out through why they’re saying. It would be much easier if they’d identify the people and then use acronyms

Doesthepopeshitinthewoods · 14/03/2023 09:29

ItsCalledAConversation · 14/03/2023 09:26

Actually, if we’re going to be really fussy, they’re initialisations, not acronyms.

It would be helpful if any abbreviation hyperlinked to the page of abbreviations.
That way one wouldn't have to stop, go to that page and then try and navigate your way back.
Sometimes to never find again what you were looking at - but then I am easily distracted! Is that ED?

That's erectile dysfunction 😂

MajesticWhine · 14/03/2023 09:31

YANBU - usually it's ok but yeah, there was a particularly hard to read post today. AC and AS ??Confused

I think I saw that post and it meant angel son (as in now dead).

HaveYouSeenNancy · 14/03/2023 09:32

It normally becomes clear as you read through the op, but there are times when it just doesn't work; e.g. a thread about a partner not getting on with op's parents when they're both 'DP', was very confusing. Before predictive text it was understandable but it does seem a bit unnecessary now.

Love it. Really? What’s the difference?

FatOaf · 14/03/2023 09:32

They aren't acronyms. They're abbreviations. An acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of a phrase (e.g. NASA, AIDS). There is no way of pronouncing DD as a word, so it is not an acronym.

Dear Husband (or any of the others, dear daughter in your example) is a phrase though?

An acronym can be pronounced as a word (AIDS, NATO, NASA etc), an initialisation cannot. Ergo, they’re initialisations.

Ninjajay · 14/03/2023 09:36

It massively gives me the ick 🤣

ClairDeLaLune · 14/03/2023 09:37

Well clearly GSD is going to be a dog and not something about gravy or dances 🤷‍♀️ I hate dogs but I’d managed to figure that one out. You’re being deliberately obtuse there. For the rest - look them up.

I worked out that AS must mean adult son in the context of that very sad thread.

LadyWindermeresOnlyFans · 14/03/2023 09:38

Isn't AS adopted son?

Anyone who types "hubby" should be banned from using their thumbs for a week.*

*Lighthearted, tinkly little laugh etc
