Does anyone else get fed up with people writing posts with so many confusing abbreviations on here . I’m fed up with them . Can people not just write in English . Even common ones like dh ? Is that direct husband , dickhead husband , dead husband ?? Drives me nuts . Just put husband . There’s loads .
ds , dh, dm , nc , lc , and on and on and on . Even read one today that was gsd ? I thought I’d that a good short dance , or gravy so divine, no it’s what German Shepherd dog 😂😂
Just write English for Christ sake .
Ps I’ve put this on the AIBU page , know idea what it means !

I find the abbreviations cringey AF.

🤣🤣

And yet you use an abbreviation...

The joke.

your head.

Rior · 14/03/2023 08:56

Agreed. It's actually really distracting trying to figure out what the abbreviations mean. There's just so many now

determinedtomakethiswork · 14/03/2023 08:58

I've just been on one where people are using DDOG instead of just saying dog. It doesn't make any sense to say my DDOG.

takealettermsjones · 14/03/2023 08:59

The one that makes me laugh (after hanging out in the conception boards) is that CM can be either childminder or cervical mucus 😂

UnfinishedBusiness · 14/03/2023 08:59

OnlyFannys · 14/03/2023 08:49

It's fairly standard on the internet and there is a page for helping you understand the acronyms, it's a time saver. The only one I laugh at is DDog as it would be quicker to just write dog 🤦‍♀️

Ah yes, but to be fair, in many houses it is the dog that is the dear/darling🤷‍♀️😂

00100001 · 14/03/2023 09:00

It's on all forums, not just MN, and definitely predates MN!

PearlClutzsche · 14/03/2023 09:02

The Ddog, Dpony, Dcat etc. are supposed to be lighthearted!
Twisting the conventions of the group to be humourous.
Then again, humour seems to be increasingly frowned upon on here.

I’ve always hated them and I’ve been on here a long time. I especially dislike the DH, DD whatever. Do we go about calling them that in daily life, no. And given how much folk can type in one go, typing out something like hubby, so or daughter shouldn’t be too arduous.

Come on, DH is infinitely better than hubby. Hubby is just cringey .

SoupDragon · 14/03/2023 09:13

RichardHeed · 14/03/2023 08:55

The joke.

your head.

Not in the slightest.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/03/2023 09:13

It would be helpful if any abbreviation hyperlinked to the page of abbreviations.
That way one wouldn't have to stop, go to that page and then try and navigate your way back.
Sometimes to never find again what you were looking at - but then I am easily distracted! Is that ED?

bellac11 · 14/03/2023 09:15

Totally agree OP, I cant bear it. It makes posts unreadable at times, particuarly when there are a number of family members involved, along with the sodding 'dear cat', FFS

Plus its cringy. Who thought this up for gods sake

xogossipgirlxo · 14/03/2023 09:16

I have to admit I have problems with reading some of them too. Like DD- darling daughter, or direct debit? Especially when something on money threads. DP- darling partner, darling parents? It's not always clear from context when many people involved

User478 · 14/03/2023 09:16

My favourite one is working out whether people are talking about their GP (doctor) GP (Grandparent) or GP (guinea pig).

SoupDragon · 14/03/2023 08:52

😂

PearlClutzsche · 14/03/2023 09:19

Like DD- darling daughter, or direct debit?

Seriously, can you think of a sentence where it wouldn't be obvious which one was meant?

WorldAtOne · 14/03/2023 09:22

I always read ‘STBXH’ (which stands for soon to be ex husband) and stupid bastard ex husband.

i dislike the abbreviations but use them as I’ve seen people demand it to be used on threads when some people don’t. Mumsnet is an odd place.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/03/2023 09:22

Good god don’t all start writing “hubby”. It mskes me murderous / bilious by turns.

FatOaf · 14/03/2023 09:23

This drives me berserk, too, OP.

I keep wondering why someone is sharing intimate secrets with their grandfather, then finding out it's their girlfriend.

And the idiocy of DDog, DCat, etc. It's quicker to type dog or cat.

I hate all this "in" stuff. It's just a way to make other people feel unwelcome.

VivaciousRadish · 14/03/2023 09:23

I hate it too, and people who text like we’re still charged per letter

WeCome1 · 14/03/2023 09:23

I don’t mind the main one, but it gets annoying when people are ‘D’ ing friend, sister etc as they can be confused with father and son etc.
I think they’re outdated now we’re not all typing on a phone number pad.

ItsCalledAConversation · 14/03/2023 09:23

This is Mumsnet culture! Perhaps learn about it (if you have “know” idea about something, ask a question!)

WeCome1 · 14/03/2023 09:24

Main ONES that should be.
