To pick up guide dog's poo?

I've just picked up a stranger's guide dog's poo. Just wondering if other's think I should have to do this. I don't. I know it's not legally required for a visually impaired owner to do it if they are unable, but why don't they make their dog go at home before heading out and about and leaving poo on a public path? My dog isn't an assistance dog but I have trained her to go for a wee or poo on demand. I thought that's how guide dogs were trained.

Guide dogs are trained to get busy but like everyone, sometimes if you need to go then you need to go.

If he needs to go, he needs to go. By picking it up you are doing your bit in keeping the pavements clean. I'm assuming the blind(?) person wouldn't know whether the dog had been in the garden prior to the walk.

I picked up an elderly ladies small dog poo . She literally couldn't bend down that far to pick it up. I carry
Poo bags for my own dogs so no big deal .

Guide dogs are trained to go at home by their trainers they used to go at the side of the road. What do you want from this thread ? I mean you picked up shit for someone that maybe couldn't and their dog was caught out.

I think it is quite unusual to be able to control your dogs bowel movement to that extent. I have trained mine not to go whilst indoors but once outside, it is up to them.

You do know that guide dog users have jobs, families you know lives to lead
And shock horror maybe the dog poos more than once a day
There are plenty of perfectly able sighted people who leave dog shit everywhere
Maybe save your anger for them

I genuinely can’t believe you have started a thread about this if I’m honest. The mind boggles.

I couldn’t get too upset about a blind person not picking up after their dog if they can’t bloody see what they’re picking up.

Fair enough to everyone saying dogs can get caught out like humans. I must have just got lucky with my regular dog - she poos first thing after her breakfast and later again after her evening meal and that's it. Unless unwell of course.

One of my relatives used to have the GD puppies.and they had to get then on a toilet schedule.

I'm sure we are all on a toilet schedule but that doesn't mean we never ever get caught out occasionally.

Dear god do you have any idea how tough life can be with a visual impairment?
How life changing it is?
How having a guide dog can literally be life saving allowing people to regain lost independence?
And you're moaning about a bit of dog shit that you picked up anyway?
By the way sight loss can happen to any of us at any time especially as we age
I expect you'll expect more empathy than you've shown in this thread

Sometimes even the most well trained assistance dogs can be caught out occasionally or maybe it was their scheduled time to go but they had to be out for an appt or whatever.

Well obviously you'd be annoyed if they weren't visually impaired- if all the things to moan about, you could've just started a thread about CF owners, why somebody with a guide dog?!?

They are discoraged from spending in harness/on lead. But sometimes, if a dog has been working a long time, or has a bit of an upset tummy you can't do anything about it.

These dogs are amazing at what they do, it seems very churlish to imply your dog I'd better trained because she hasn't been caught short on the pavement.

I understand this. I think this is what annoyed me... The owner dropped the harness so the dog could go. It almost seemed like they were taking the dog out to poo on the path on purpose. I'm sure they weren't (see, I'm working on it!) that's just how it appeared to me.
