To pick up guide dog's poo?

Poopscoops · 13/03/2023 10:19

I've just picked up a stranger's guide dog's poo. Just wondering if other's think I should have to do this. I don't. I know it's not legally required for a visually impaired owner to do it if they are unable, but why don't they make their dog go at home before heading out and about and leaving poo on a public path? My dog isn't an assistance dog but I have trained her to go for a wee or poo on demand. I thought that's how guide dogs were trained.

Not fake. I'm just obviously a terrible person 🙈 thread has made me think though. I've taken it all on board and I'll work on it.

Good. I think it’s no big deal to have done this for a visually impaired person, ie a person with a disability. I have a different disability. Life is far harder than being able bodied.

I've seen it all now. A combined stealth boast and guide dog bashing thread.

I think this is what annoyed me... The owner dropped the harness so the dog could go. It almost seemed like they were taking the dog out to poo on the path on purpose. I'm sure they weren't (see, I'm working on it!) that's just how it appeared to me.

There is something wrong with you.

Axahooxa · 13/03/2023 13:12

Some people with visual impairment will carefully plan for this; some will also not care about their dog pooing on a path. If you can pick it up- do so- if you will be really annoyed, walk on.

thisplaceisweird · 13/03/2023 13:15

I can't even train myself to go on command. I often need to go to the toilet outside of my house!

maddy68 · 13/03/2023 13:20

Just do it. What's wrong with people

TrashyPanda · 13/03/2023 13:29

Wow

my visually impaired friend has a guide dog, which has given him back his independence.

there are times we’ve been out and his guide dog has needed a poo. Because he is an animal, not a machine. All the training in the world won’t change that. If the dog need to go, then it needs to go. I just pick up the poo and don’t give it a second thought.

For all you know, the dog could have an upset stomach and is pooing more than normal.

just pick up the poo and be thankful you aren’t visually impaired.

Yeah- they should have both moved into the traffic on the road so the dog wouldn't poo on the pavements (NOT!)

BrutusMcDogface · 13/03/2023 13:35

Guide dog poos, VI person can’t see poo to pick it up, sighted dog owner picks up poo using own poo bags. End of. I’m not sure what you’re even trying to say here.

Cosyblankets · 13/03/2023 13:56

I would have just picked it up it's not a big deal

Of course they dropped the harness to let their dog poo! What do you think they should have done? Kept on dragging it down the road while it tried to carry on pooing? 🤣🤣

And besides, you can SEE if your dog has gone when you let it out in the garden. Blind people can't.

It almost sounds like your acusing them of waiting in all day until the dog wants a poo, and then taking it out and positioning it in the most awkward position possible to purposely lay a turd right in the middle of the pavement.

KarmaStar · 13/03/2023 22:23

Contact guide dogs charity and ask them?
Such a sad post.

wetotter · 13/03/2023 22:28

Guide dogs are trained to "spend" on command, so they normally go in a place where the owner can cope with clearing it.

But animals, whether human or canine, sometimes get caught short.

I think clearing dog poo if the owner is struggling to do so is a good thing to do, whether that's from disability, mobility issues or temporary difficulty (such as broken hand)

XenoBitch · 13/03/2023 22:33

No, I am not going to pick up a guide dog poo. I would never get anything done, as there is a ton of poo just left where I live. Do guide dog poo's have a little flag stuck in them, so you can tell them apart from normal dog poo?

Is all well and good training your dog to go on command. Wait until they are in their senior years.

DojaPhat · 13/03/2023 22:35

I thought this was going to be one of those " Was I BU to have saved a toddler from the mouth of a bear???" threads but this is just bizarre. You're annoyed that you had to do a seemingly good deed for a VI person who may or may not have maliciously planned their guide dog's poo in the middle of the street.

I think they want a wooden spoon.

Op only knows it was guide dog poo because she saw it happen, no flag necessary

Sure, you don't have to go around picking up anyone's dog mess. If you actually saw someone less able and have a spare bag, you might help them though

turnthebiglightoff · 13/03/2023 22:42

Blue Peter badge on its way for you, OP. You are one of life's precious flowers. God bless you.

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 13/03/2023 22:46

As the sister of a guide dog owner I would like to firmly inform you that you are definitely being unreasonable! 🤯🤬

Wow. How dare this visually impaired person not see their dog being caught short. Read the room OP

Jesus Christ. The mind reels.

Maybe the dog was having an off day. FFS.

Aganta · 13/03/2023 22:59

The real question is why doesn't every dog owner train their dogs to only shit in their own garden?

Phoebo · 13/03/2023 22:59

Dog shit is disgusting, but how is a blind person meant to do that?
