Do you get irrationally annoyed when people repeat the same stories?

Just some examples. I became friends with a coworker (I’ve been there a year) and she regularly tells me the story how the person before me was so quiet and seeing him bloom “she’s like a proud big sister”. Word for word it’s almost the same. Three times at least.

My sister will tell me the same stories over and over. And I sit there thinking do you not think you told me this at the time it happened seeing as I’ve known you my entire life. Like why do you think this is new information?

My manager has repeated the same example/saying to me in every meeting we have twice a week for the last 2 months. He even starts it with I know I might have said this … no shit.

Sorry I’m not a rude person, but inside I’m screaming I KNOW!!!

Ah well, lesson learned everyone.

I hadn't related this habit to the long time oral tradition of story telling to pass on history until I read this thread.

That's no fecking excuse though really.

TikTok is surely just the modern version. My phone tells me the same 100 stories over and over!

I spend a lot of time with people with dementia. Repetitive stories are part of my day to day. It's not something that bothers me at all, each time, it is a new story to the person telling me and each time I can share their joy or sadness or irritation with whatever they are telling me. I try and find different aspects to relate to or think about each time if I can.

My DGFs favourite repetitive story was about a trip out and seeing a fountain. Sometimes, I would ask him about the fountain, sometimes about the place it was, sometimes about the people he was with. I heard that story hundreds of times but often learnt something new about him / the place / someone else.

I have a friend who repeats the same stories over and over and I aodre it.

It's cosy and familiar to me.

However he's a born raconteur, hilarious speaks well is extremely wise so I don't mind.

Oh god it's FIL
I interject, "yes, I remember you saying", "yes, that was when Derek bought the jumper wasn't it" , "yes, you've told me this"
It makes no difference
He just says, "well, I'll tell you again" and carries on ARGHHHHHHJJJJMDNDNDJSNJSJDNDNDNDNXDNDNNDJDNDKDKD
